  • I DONT WANT TO WAIT FOR CONVERSION! That is not effective.

  • Nothing about TRANSFER TIMES though, even after mentioning how great ACVHD is for wedding videographers rushing to get their ceremony cuts out for the reception. Thankfully I don't have to worry about that, but what's the typical transfer rate for uncompressing of say 1hr of 1080i ACVHD to ProRes422 through l&t, with ie a Macbook pro 2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. What about lower rez, or the effect of different frame rates. Thanks ahead for any insight..

  • NOW EVERY ONE LISTEN .I USE MAGIX 17 PLUS YOU NEED A GOOD COMPUTER I EXPORT TO MY DESKTOP IN 1920 X 1080 TO CHECK THE FINISH PRODUCT THEN PUT IT ON MY USB OR THUMBDRIVE PLUG IT INTO MY NEW HD TV OR TAKE IT TO A SHOP AND USE THERE BIGGEST TV AND IT LOOKS GREAT THE PICTURE IS SO CLAER AND THE COLOURS GREAT./ CANON HFS 10, FROM DOWN UNDER.

  • Thanks for the great video!

Now i do have another question. coz i can import my files from the PRIVATE folder and those are 232 files... he only takes 72 files in the L&T... and the other ones i can t import... He always imports the same 72 files... and the rest i can t import??

Does anybody know why and how to get the other files on that same SD card as well????

    Thanks :-)

  • @MysticViewVideo what editing software are you using?

You may want to try choosing just 50 or so clips at a time. Also make sure that you are saving the transcoded files to a separate external hard drive for safety.

  • AVC HD as 35mm format any comments>

  • I imported AVCHD thru Log and Transfer and FCP propose ProRes. Nice result, but files are very large (60 GB/ 01 hour). So, I tested a converter: short file but low resolution image. Are there other way to have good resolution and files not too big, because I bought a Panasonic HDC SD10 for shooting family moments.

    best regards

  • @TERRAFIRMETV AVCHD is a compressed mp4 format. When you convert it to an i-frame codec such as ProRes, to edit, it will increase the file size as well. You can convert it to ProRes LT to save some space, but depending on your footage, it may decrease the quality.

  • man, very poor camera work.

  • @floridatvcrews I disagree.

  • That monitor looks almost exactly the same as my Sony TV, the White, the way it doesn't have a proper stand, the edges, everything, that's awesome! And Sue is fit!!!

I don't understand, if it's this simple, why do people have so much trouble? I don't wanna get an HD camera yet in case it's difficult and I may have wasted the money.

  • WEVA sucks! My dog was registered with WEVA. They'll take anyone with a dollar to be a member.

  • very simple - thank you

  • absxxl, There are many flavors of Quicktime. For best results, your import preferences should be set to Transcode to "Apple ProRes422"

  • I shoot in HD 24p,30p,1080i. is there a problem with this format when importing to FCP 7 as a Quicktime file? How long does transcoding take?

  • Bernie, high scool classes of 1966 and 1967 are proud of you! Can't wait to see you at our multi-class reunion in 2011.

  • @RonN448 who are you talking about?

  • @PumaM90 I was directing my comment to Bernie Mitchell, the gentleman featured in this interview. We went to high school together. We haven't seen each other since 1966; and, in my excitement, I wrote the comment thinking that he would be the one to see it. So, if you have a way of contacting him, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! My apologies for not paying attention to where my comment would actually go.

  • My footage is very jumpy and I'm afraid that my timeline settings in FCP are messed up. Where can I find a clear model for setting defaults for AVCHD?

  • hey im trying to get the the footage off of my hd camera to the computer but when i do that and try to log and transfer it dont recognize the files

  • What camera in what format are you shooting?

What versions of what software are you using?

  • What is the best way to export your clips once you are done editing with AVCHD/Pro Res? I use Compressor 3. I have exported using H.264 and the quality is very blah looking. What is recommended?

  • Are you looking to archive the footage or distribute it? For archive, if you have the hard drive space. Export it out as a self contained movie along with the FCP project file and all additional materials. Run media manage with 1 second handles to keep the footage that you used. For the web distribution, I've always used H.264 with a data rate of at least 800kbps with good results.

  • I'm looking to distribute it online (eventually on DVD but that later). Does it seem to lose any quality exporting it at H.264? Does it stay at HD? And I'm not sure why, but when I watch the clips on the camera (Canon Vixia HFS100) it looks fantastic. Nice and bright and crisp. I bring it into Final Cut Pro and it looks dark and very low quality. Why? Is it because I'm not using a HD computer monitor? It seems to lose a lot once brought into the computer.

  • If you record at 720/24p or 1080/24p and you do a log and transfer in FCP, does the footage convert to Pro res at 23.976fps? Or is it like the canon consumer camcorders that record 24fps and store it in a 60i wrapper. Of course with the canon's then when you log and transfer 24fps footage it shows up in FCP as 29.97fps. I am hoping to hear that the HMC-150 doesn't store its 24fps in a 60i container. Thanks!

  • I heard that you need a quad processor to make the editing work seamless... I have a iMac core duo 2.66 with 4 gigabytes...will that do?

  • Just like in this video, except I connected through USB from my panasonic hmc150 to my mac. "No name" comes up like in the video, but when I go into final cut 6 and do log and transfer it doesn't pick it up? I dont know why, maybe because im using USB? Any advice will be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

  • Yeah the latest few versions of final cut only likes fire wire... at least thats what I've experienced

  • thank u for this video., i just want to ask if, what mac notebook will you recommend me for this.. i have a panasonic HDC-S1 2CCD avchd camera.. and i want to make some basic editing. thnx

  • I'm glad this helped. The process is pretty easy once you see it. It also helps to name each clip w/ a good description during the log process.

    2 other important steps:

1: Transfer all data from the card to an ext. hard drive (raw drive) into a folder w/ a unique name (ie: ProjectX_card01).

2: Open new project & set the Capture Scratch to a separate ext. drive (work drive),

Any Intel Mac running the latest version of OS 10.5 will work. MacBook Pros are better at editing video than the MacBook.

  • um my AVCHD Camcorder is awesome but my Adobe CS4 can't seem to view the videos properly .. totally sucks cuase I spent so much money to get everything only to have it not work the way it's suppose to .. wish I know what I did wrong

  • did they help u? or u find a good device to open video file from ur avchd camcorder and happily edit it?

  • That's so cool! :)
