The 80's song "Send Me An Angel" instantly came to mind from around 3:00 - 3:17. Yes, this most definitely does have that new wave 80's sound! Very cool. Came here to watch the review after picking up a used one for my son (Christmas) at the Goodwill last night for $14.99. It's still outside (hiding) in my trunk. ;) He's pretty picky so I was debating on keeping or returning. After watching this review, I am keeping! Sounds great! Thanks for making this review. :)
Great review! So many of these 'reviews' just show some ambiguous hand pressing the demo button and letting it play. This review/demo has been very useful to me. Thanks!
Why is it everyone keeps saying it's only worth the $20 range for what sounds like a TX81z with sliders? Seems pretty usable. Ordered one for $30 after shipping and tax from a GC today and I'm quite syked.
i got one of these too... it also has a built in sequencer, but didnt see the guy covering it, wanted to find out how to program it for more than 8-16 bars, but maybe thats all you get for your buck her ;)
I got one of these new back in the day, and I still drag it out to use it on the occasional recording. If you tweak the Cello setting, I like to imagine that it sounds almost like a Mellotron.
I just picked one of these up for $20! Doesn't have as many bells and whistles as the newer Yamaha keyboards, but the digital synthesizer is pretty fun to play with :)
I have one of these that I use in a cover band I put it on strings digitalsynth turned on spectrum on5,brilianceon4,envelope on,3 vibrato on 3 detune on 1 and put sustain on2 for a very accurate sound to the synth on elton johns crocodile rock
I play the synth parts in the first and second courus of this song and it sounds very good through the p.a. the psr36 is a very entry level keyboard though kind of cheap but quite tough mine was bought in 1988 and still works perfect
Unfortunately I only realised that the POPSYNTH, SLAPSYNTH, FUNKSYNTH and BLUESYNTH and FLUTE sounds- that I SO loved on my PSS-560- were in fact NOT identical on the PSR-36, after I had spent $200 on mine:-(
Anyone out there wanna swop mine for a PSS-560? It's in mint condition though!
Why Yamaha NO make this awesome keyboard anymore?????

Beautiful keyboard. I like the 80's design of Yamaha and Casio. In the 90's everything just got bad as far as instrument looks go...
