Coloring Comics in Photoshop Tutorial 2, Part 2, laying down flats

You mention not to use magic wand tool and paint bucket to fill areas. Would it be acceptable to use magic wand tool to select complicated or complex drawing areas but then select paint layer before dropping in color? I work on very complicated drawings and the method as described in this video would take forever to color without the magic wand tool. Also I could lay every color or "section" of color under it's own layer that way I have total control to apply blending options, clipping masks etc

I'm confused as to how you cleaned up the colors that you have outside the lines... you made an area to color with the lasso tool (I.E. the left outward leg) and yet you still had the blobs of color outside the leg outline. How did you clean that up as how it is in the next video?

Hey man, thanks so much for this tutorial. I have my pencil line drawing done and inked the lines with black pen, but when I erased the pencil Im left with fairly substantial pencil scars and a bit of a dirty page. If I follow the scan and page setting steps you gave in tutorial 1 - should I get a nice clean line image when I scan?

@TanjaTheArtist yes, I used a wacom intuos 4 to do this tutorial and I'm currently using a cintiq.  If this is a trade you are considering taking seriously you will need to invest in a tablet eventually.

Great Tutorials. I have a question about the step where you add the blue background. What if there is already a background (ex. cars, buildings, etc.) in the pic. Do i have to add a background color like what was shown in the videothen add the specific colors that i want to those background elements or can i leave the background layer the default white and just start coloring the entire panel. Does adding a background color and then coloring the background elements effect the printing process?

@n003326 There isn't really a way for me to see what you're doing wrong, so I'd suggest that you retrace your steps and make sure that you've followed the instructions properly. The only thing I can think to tell you here is to make sure that you're active layer is the background, and that you don't have a particular area selected. Probably your best bet though is to just retrace your steps and try to figure out what you missed.

@kikoff101 That's not realy true, but I do endorse that book,it's a great reference, and I do reccommend it. Really the first couple of parts of this tutorial are industry standard, so you'll find them in any basic teachings about coloring comics. If you continue on through the tutorials here however, you'll see that the actual coloring method is different, and simpler.

I just used the normal eraser tool, and repencilled where I needed to.

How do you clean up the colors after the lasso? In the start of part 3 all the colors are cleaned up and in the lines

ran in to another problem. sometimes it happens on some pictures, some times it doesn't and i cant seen to figure out what causes it. the problem: when i do the "fill part" it turns my image a light gray color. i've done both the normal fill and the multiple fill too. some where in there i m missing a step. thanks for the help ( again) ps. your Tutorial are great!
