Hey! Super! Can you send me the settings for the Czech language for ''Learning with texts'' Prosím! Or maybe you can make a video explaining how you use it for Czech. Diky!
Great video. I don't think you were being overly critical of Lingq at all. You were making a video about Learning w/ Texts. It made sense to compare it with Lingq, as they do share very similar features. Everything you said was simply fact: Lingq costs $ and is remotely hosted. LWT is free, and is hosted locally. On the other hand, this was a video about LWT, NOT Lingq, so you didn't have any reason to go into the "positives" of Lingq. Those replies were simply missing the point.
@MrScotchpie LWT runs within any Linux distro. If you are running Ubuntu, please read the ApacheMySQLPHP document within the Ubuntu Community Documentation (please google). It explains how to install PHP, Apache & MySQL under Ubuntu. As there are so many Linux distros around, I did not explain how to set up in the LWT documentation.
@lwtproject thanks, that's one possible solution, but even then the software wouldn't be able to recognize that verb conjugations are different forms of the same basic word, like rikaichan (firefox plugin) can
where did you get your electronic copy of harry potter as well as the audio, I'm having a hard time findin such things in czech. Thanks for the video will check out learning with texts
you don't need to apologise if your video came across as critical of lingq. i use lingq, pay for it, and love it, but nothing is perfect. if people can't accept criticism, the problem is theirs, not yours. i enjoy your videos anthony and i wouldn't want your honesty to be blunted by a mob...
IMHO don't be too worried that some are seeing this as an anti-LingQ video. All you did was try to explain what it is in relation to something people are already familiar with and then suggest some advantages this software might have.
From my perspective it looks brilliant. I've just finished installing it and hope to have fun getting texts with audio into it. Only downside I see is that raw database/sets developed by learners won't be shared the way anki decks are.
Thanks for the great video. If one looks with more detail into LWT, one will immediately see that LWT isn't just a clone or a rip-off of LingQ. This is not possible anyway because nobody has access to LingQ's underlying database structure and the code (one exception: the client-side javascript code). So LWT is different to LingQ in many ways, and it lacks the community features of LingQ. I made LingQ for my personal learning, and it does a good job every day. I am happy that you like it!
@lwtproject Thank you for creating such splendid software and sharing it with the world. I apologise wholeheartedly if I have misrepresented LWT in any way in the video. You are completely correct that it is not a LingQ clone, although it does have many similar features. People need to try both, to see which best suits their individual needs. Thanks again.
I'm using my own program to learn. It has mostly the same features and more (along the lines of a wordnet for grammatical and semantic links).
However, the thing is that lingq is a shared system, which is advantageous because people can share improvements on translations one can get online, and also share all the new incoming selected material.
@heloizyjhenifer Yes, I agree that LingQ is a very good system. Certainly the fact that other you can share content with others is a great advantage. Hopefully, my video didn't come across as very negative about LingQ. I encourage people to look at LingQ to see if it is right for them.
@FluentCzech Hehe, I don't mind at all, I had to dev my own software because lingq was insufficient for me and didn't even have the language I was working on, so. But indeed, you video does look like an ad against lingq ;). Like "You wouldn't want your learning system to go out of business and leave you stranded, would you? Wink, wink", self-fulfilling prophecy? :D.
That said, I didn't look at the dates but it might very well be that lingq's software is based on LWT...
@heloizyjhenifer Thanks again for your feedback, I have added an annotation to the video that should balance things a little better, and also added a link to LingQ in the video description.

seems useless for japanese since you have to insert spaces between the words yourself
just wasted 1.5 h getting this piece of shit to work instead of doing reps

Interesting looking software, though I have to agree with the other comments, it does seem like you are doing an advert against LingQ.

@sing2speak I am sorry. My intent wasn't to bash LingQ. I will put some comments in the video description to correct that.
