io sono un sunday pianist...ma vi assicuro che suonare The girl of ipanema trascritta dalla improvvisazione di Oscar....è veramente arduo. Ma è troppo bella per non provarci.
As amazing (and different enough to be truly fascinating) as the solos are, what completely gasses me about this cut is the way each of them comps behind the other... as if the comper knows exactly what the soloist would do if he had a third hand to do it.
The out chorus and extended ending sound as though they're sharing a brain as they play... this is almost supernatural stuff.
I strongly recommend their duet album 'Yessir, That's My Baby'. The songs are all played in a similar format, the two of them taking turns. It's the best record I know, the last two tracks are simply flawless. Sadly, it's nowhere to be found on youtube. I think you can find a copy on Amazon though, you won't regret it.
A perfect duo wow must be a perfect lady. such a brilliant version

Although I've never heard it, didn't they have an LP on Pablo out in the '70's called "Satch and Josh?"
tuxguys 2 years ago
Correct, but I prefer Yessir, That's My Baby.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out.

John Heard on bass
Louis Bellson on drums
Beautiful. Thanks.

Brilliant performance, yet the one by the giant, "impeccable" Mr. (Teddy) Wilson and Jo Jones is clearly better.

Peterson and Basie really are the perfect duo. The bass player in this is great too. Is it John Heard?
IrishDutchman 2 years ago 11
@IrishDutchman It may be Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. I think so.

@VikingFfm
I googled it just there and it actually is John Heard. The duo has play with Pedersen as well, however.
Drums played by Louis Bellson, BTW.

An upright with extended low notes at 5:30ish. Hits a low C. A 5 string?

Agree.... well we're up to 10 comments, counting this one. I'd like to hear the Frankie Carle version. My Dad loved to hear him.
