  • This trio (or more?) will be appearing in the Chicago area (Evanston -- just north of town) on Monday 13 June at a very nice venue called SPACE (Society to Preserve Arts and Culture in Evanston). Hope to see you there...

  • What was that piece of metal?? that was awesome!

  • @siskjustyn that, my friend, was a hand saw. who knew!? they can cut things up and also sound perdddy.

  • isn't that cellist in balmorhea also?

  • @kikilamontagne She's Heather Woods Broderick, Peter Broderick's sister and an amazing musician (just like her brother). She's not an "official" member of Balmorhea but she does play with them every now and them, yeah! Justin Ringle (HF), Peter and Heather are always collaborating and doing amazing stuff with other bands just like this concert here :)

  • best npr concert i have ever heard.

  • They probably more than any other band, make me want to make that sound. So friggin good

  • IVE LISTENED TO THIS SOO MUCH.

  • This does NOT sound like live music!

  • Love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YES THE VIOLIN!!!

  • I watched this video a few months ago, and since then this has become one of my favorite bands. Every last aspect of the music is beautiful. Also, the girl playing cello is super cute.

  • The violin only started sounding good when he started playing it because his bow is actually a wand.

  • 2 people accidently disliked this video.

  • ahhhhhh singing saw akjhcvlsdkf.jchgvsdfkjckv.

  • PEOPLE ACTUALLY GAVE THIS A THUMBS DOWN?! WHO ARE THEY?! ARE THEY INSANE?! DO THEY NOT OWN EARS?!

  • This is now one of my new favorite bands. Because of this video right here. The harmonies are subtle and perfect. The perfect blend of voice and string. It's simple yet dynamic and the lead singers voice is smooth and soothing. The violinist is very talented and the so is the cello player. Such a humble vibe from them as well. Amazing. Also is it weird that I got excited when he said Portland? ha ha (I'm from Portland.)

  • feelin it

  • dude i wanna fall asleep to his voice!!

  • klinkt goeeeed!

  • Awesome Awesome Awesome

  • @madbird2112--LOL, that's my reaction exactly. I stumbled on this while attempting to view another Tiny Desk Session, and I actually thought that Oldham had another band! Then I heard the voice... :)

  • My friend said that any band featured on NPR must be amazing. When I found Horse Feathers, I told her they were amazing. WIN.

  • Hagrid, Hermione and Harry

    YAY What a Band

  • 1 dislike....

  • @melongabg Probably someone that expected to see a video of horses flying around a tiny desk. I'd be pretty pissed too if I expected that and saw some guy with a beard singing, regardless of how amazing.

  • good

  • God dammit fuck my internet connection. I can't video chat with my girlfirend and I can't buffer videos on youtube...

  • Can anyone tell me the strumming pattern for "Curs in the weeds"?

  • so what kind of guitar is he playing?

  • lol

  • Going to the concert tonight in Michigan!

  • @0isurfroxy0 I was at the concert in Ann Arbor too! I was floored, the performance was so beautiful

  • i want to marry their cellist. so gorgeous and so talented.

  • what i love about this band is its sound almost EXACTLY like it does on the album. holy shit now THAT takes some tremoundous talent

  • @elmatto2006 or a lack of production

  • @elmatto2006 or live recordings!

  • Absolutely wonderful!! I got their CD off of ITunes, well worth it!

    ~MIKe

  • Thanks for sharing and allowing embedding for promotion!

  • I absolutely love this band...Its nothing near what I ussually listen to. I wish they would come to Cali and do a concert for me.

  • @Zaxxy: From what I've seen of their Upcoming Shows list on their myspace, a large portion of the shows are going to be in California

  • @JayAyche

So what other music do you listen to? I really enjoy Horse Feathers but I can't find another band that is anything like it or nearly as good.

    -Robert

  • @Zaxxy I'd recommend Fionn Reagan preferably his old album "The End Of History" I don't know how I feel about his new one. Also if you don't mind "Dylan" type of folk I'd check out The Tallest Man On Earth his new album is some of the best folk music I've heard in awhile and I think he has a tiny desk concert too.

  • @Zaxxy If you've taken to Horse Feathers there is fortunately another album coming out on April 20th on iTunes. To answer your question, my playlist usually includes Bon Iver, Iron & Wine (love the first album), Mumford & Sons, Alexi Murdoch, and recently some Angus & Julia Stone

  • @JayAyche - same - in that case give "fleet foxes", "tallest man on earth" and "Blitzen Trapper" a listen, especially the tracks, lady on the water and black water killer

  • @Zaxxy Sounds a lot like Iron & Wine. and Iron & Wine is one of the best folk bands outta the past 10 years. So yeah. Download the album "Around The Well" by them, it's a bunch of b-sides and its all really great.

  • @Zaxxy Fleet Foxes, Great Lake Swimmers, Bon Iver (my absolute favorite), The Tallest Man on Earth, Volcano Choir has a really weird sound, but it's good nonetheless, Stars, Ray LaMontagne, Damien Rice... Without going through my entire music collection, those are a few of my favorites that have folky sounds like Horse Feathers, but there really aren't any just like them. Oh, The Avett Brothers are good, as well.

  • @supercoolfresh Stars is folky? I like them a lot, but I would never describe that band as folky.

  • @tippusmaximus I wouldn't either.

  • @supercoolfresh I have to agree with tippusmaximus, I am not so sure Stars could be considered folky. At least not in the same folk vein. They are more folkrock/electronica. Nonetheless a great band.

I just came upon these guys the other day on a random music search online and have to say I am impressed to say the least. If you like these guys you might want to check out The Everybodyfields.

  • @supercoolfresh omg those are all my favorite bands. Bon Iver and the Avetts being my absolute favorites

  • i could use a whole day listening and watching you guys.

  • @spiderrabbit3 absolutely agreed

  • i'm glad will oldham and harry potter are back together

  • ha ha!

  • @madbird2112 i just laughed sooooo hard at that... all alone, too. hahaha

  • @madbird2112 LOLAGE. Not bad are they hmm?

  • I just heard of these guys - very nice!!!

  • I dig this. The first song reminds of "Thirteen" by Big Star. But thats not nessicarily a bad thing

  • Their string players are really goddamn good. Not to mention that kid can play the saw too!

  • yeppers , this band draws ya in . and she sure is pretty

  • Seeing them tonight life-- SO EXCITED

  • What is the title of the first song they play?

  • working poor

  • i love this band so much. as i also love living in the PNW

  • when i am stressed out to the max i just put on some Horse Feathers. thanks for the music.

  • I LOVE npr! horse feathers AND the avett brothers!

  • YES!!!

  • that's the first time i've ever seen heather smile!

  • me too, she sure is pretty though!

  • i love this sound, especially the second song. it's like i'm weightelss when i hear it. i just can't stop smiling.

    they are truly unique. :)
