i know this is alittle late, But im auditioning for Laguardia Sept 1st. and i have a question for you, Should i sing a song from the Selected List, or should i sing a Song That i Chose, Will they Penalize me for it? and if i do sing a classical song, should i sing it with my Own rnb style, or the classical way?

Those songs are only suggestions so they will not penalize you, but make sure the song shows off not only your voice but your acting skills as well. Do not sing a classical song with an R&B style. That is a big no no at LaGuardia.

Best of luck with your audition and remember that LaGuardia is a great school but if you don't get in, it's really not the end of the world.

@PurpleTheDog its really hard depending on what u audition for, but u need a grade average of 85. its okay if u don't have exactly 85 as long as u do really well on ur audition. for example, for drums its incredibly hard to get in, i saw like 27 people besides me auditioning and only 7 including myself got in. visual art is probably the easiest to get in for and maybe vocals next. drama is the hardest tho. and also i had like a 79 grade average and still got in.

sing whatever you think shows off your voice. people sing so many different genres for the auditions even though the training at LaGuardia is classically based. So yeah, as I said, sing what shows off your talent :)

well the song a person chooses is really a personal decision since every one has a different style of voice. it is really unlikely they will ask you to sing a second song but if they do, i suppose you should chose a song that contrasts the first one. like, if the first was happy happy joy joy then pick another one that has a slower tempo.

It just wasn't for me - i was a vocal major.. i didnt like the style of voice i was studying, and i was unhappy with the teachers, but there were some teachers i loved ! and i made great friends there that i still keep in touch with, it just wasnt the school for me

Don't feel bad- the school isn't for everyone....I got in and went for 7 months-absolutely hated it.

So it wasn't all it cracks up to be. But i know a lot of people that LOVE it. So it depends on the person.

woooooo. i waited in line right under those stairs at 6:30 this morning -_-... after sitting in a theatre, a big room, then filling an application out in another, and being seperated from my friends to audition in a room in the corner of the basement with 2 guys, i felt a lot better xD i think i did my song good and the tapping thing was good and the sight reading was okay,, and the tonal memory thing iffy,,, overall i did okay... im confident though... now only 3 months of waiting ^O^

lol only 3 people from my school went to LaGuardia and I thought I was only going to stick with them but that's not the case. The awesome thing about LaG is that everyone has 1 thing in common, a passion for art. So I think it's easy to make friends, or at least easier than other highschools. They dont do this all the time. Every Friday they have a group perform in the morning while the students scan in. Sometimes on holidays the band or a chorus walks around the school performing for classes :)
