sadly, gaming is impossible with these things, because they a) only recognize two keys simultaneously and b) the letters on the first layer have a delay of about a second for better touch typing
yes, typing with two hands is faster, but on the FrogPads I reach above 70WPM, which is faster thn the majority of PC users can type with both hands. Also it's easier and faster to learn than QWERTY or Dvorak and for the normal PC usage you're much faster with a FrogPad than with a normal keyboard, because you don't have to move your hand from keyboard to mouse all the time.
But if you're a professional typist or write often a lot, then a efficient two handed layout is indispensable.
Thanks for posting this video. It's a nice demonstration for those who are considering getting a FrogPad, but would like to see how it's like typing on one.
Yeah, it's called a "chorded" keyboard, where you perform multiple keystrokes to type out different characters. It's named that way because it's similar to playing a chord (playing multiple keys with the same hand) on a keyed instrument like a piano.
in which way? Why shall this be a fake? You can buy this product, you can type with this product, just as demonstrated. I own 3 myself and have an average typing speed of 70WPM with the right hand, and a little less with the left hand.
If you're typing in English, then you only have to hit a single key for the letter you want 86% of the time. For the less frequently used characters, the other 14%, you hold space while you hit the character. So it's still one keystroke, but you hit space simultaneously. The keyboard waits for you to release the key before it types a letter, so that it knows whether you used the space or not. It doesn't matter if you hit space first or the letter first, as long as they both get pressed.
hmm actually you can type pretty fast on that. but not as fast as i can on a dvorak keyboard. and plus i bet it tires you out way faster only using one hand.
I'm able to type faster than what you can see in this video. I've recorded myself typing over 100 wpm. I've been using my Frogpad for about two and a half years now.
In my opinion the Frog Pad is a good idea but its not very ergonomic. It's ok for typing emails and that sort of thing but not for typing code. Also, I don't like the way the arrow keys have been placed: the UP arrow key should be placed so as to hit it using the middle finger, not the ring finger!
Keyboard designs are usually considered ergonomic when the keys are placed in such a way that the wrists are positioned comfortably during typing. Two-handed keyboards require that your wrists rest near each other, and that usually means that they have to be bent a certain way in order to type.
One might argue that the Frogpad is super ergonomic, because your wrists aren't so bound together. This allows you to position your typing hand very comfortably.
I agree that the keyboard isn't very efficient for programming, since you can't type special characters in a single keystroke. As for the fingers used on the arrow keys, you can get used to that. The real issue is that you can't seem to press multiple directions at once (ie forward and left at the same time), so I often end up using the arrows on a normal keyboard for gaming anyway.
I think an ergonomic keyboard is one that encourages the natural movement of fingers and promotes a natural posture. When I started typing on the QWERTY keyboard my I used to try to keep my wrists close together, in order to keep my hands parallel, as I thought that was the correct way). That hurt after a while! But now I type with my wrists at about 75 degrees without problems. Not evryone can do this though because some people's fingers are shorter.
The most ergonomic keyboards on the market would be the Datahand (most), the Maltron and the Kinesis Contoured keyboard. These are good but not perfect and very expensive. If you want the perfect keyboard, you have to make it yourself, which is what I did. Mine is a two-handed keyboard, still, but access to the navigation keys is greately improved so as to minimize mouse usage.
I just use a regular keyboard. Wonder how how well i could type on that frogpad. from the images iv seen of it i cant even figure out how you type on the thing. Holy shit, as i was typing this response, thinking about your video, I realized that I never use my thumb for typing and only use my index finger for shifting.
I turned to the FrogPad after an accident involving a broken window, a chair, and an air conditioning unit left me with my ulnar and median nerves severed at the wrist. However, if I were suddenly able to type two-handed again, I still wouldn't switch back. I love the FrogPad. I own three of them. :)
hahaha. dude thats hilarious. ive been thinking about buying one, but if im right-handed, do i get a righthanded FrogPad? (i realize how stupid that sounds) Thanks for the vid!
You can get them right-handed or left-handed. The one in the video is right-handed, actually. It's just that the video is inverted (notice how the letters are backwards).
I want to learn to type with my left hand and write with my right hand at the same time.

Does it basically have a "shift" type key to type the letter that corresponds with the other side of the keypad?

I have typed on a regular qwerty keyboard with one hand at up to 28wpm and practicing that just cause I want to.

I'm right handed, but I may get a lefty, so I can use my mouse and type at the same time. But I bet you can't game too well with that thing.

I type really really fast on ordinary keyboards, but do you recommend that? it looks awesome. it's kinda expensive. where can i find used ones?

You won't unlearn to type on an ordinary keyboard if you use a FrogPad.
If you have luck, you'll find a used one on eBay.

Think of it like your cellphone key pad. Every key doubles as another key when you use a function switch key.

Looks interesting. What about all of the other buttons on the standard QWERTY keyboard, such as Print Scrn, F1, F2, F3, ..., Page Up, Page Down, etc.
I use all of those quite a bit.
brentdavis29 2 years ago
The FrogPad supports every key a qwerty keyboard has.
For PgUp, PgDown, Home, Arrow Up, Crtl, Alt, ... you have to press 'number' + 'letter key'
For F1, F2, ... you have to activate 'number' mode and then press 'space'+'letter key'.
For PrintScreen, Scroll Lock, ... you have to activate 'symbol' mode and press 'number' + 'letter key'
