Electric is a transfer or current of electrons. The EM field is the medium for the energy transfer of electrons. Imagine the sun as not aglow but dark and cold. Subtract all the energy it emits and focus on the sun as one conserved storage of energy. Imagine it has no gravity and is not emanating energy. When gravity is added, pressure then produces the energy which causes the sun to glow. No conversion of matter to energy! Since gravity is based on mass the sun will never stop producing energy.

Seeing this wonderful video confirms my belief that Tesla was a child of the lightning storm that occurred when he was born. A storm that found its epicentre in his discovry of alternating current and the alternating current generator. Albeit, an eneregy source "light years" ahead of Edisons' direct current concepts.

The krakatau euption was also a giant discharge,(probably between the earth and the ionosfeer). I red many books about the subject,and they never solved the problem of the violent explosions,sounds and electric phenomena.Volcanoes are fixed discharge centra between the earth and ionosfeer and the plasma torus around the equator of the earth. this is why indonesian volcanoes are so explosive,the same as the arcs on the equator of the sun.

I could have told them dust devils where electrically charged. I had numerous ones slam into my house in Africa. The leaves, paper and junk would be statically clinging to the nylon window screens afterward. Happened every time.

@2degucitas The dust devil charging studies are motivated by the observations of dust devils on Mars. There have been some studies showing that the corona-induced chemistry of dust devils is one of the contributing factors to removing both water and oxygen from the Martian atmosphere - they get converted to H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide).

What about it? Charges can equalize between different clouds and weather fronts, and dissipate elsewhere... There are over 2000 electrical storms worldwide at any one time!

The EU theory applied to weather is so much simpler and obvious. Wow, I find it so unimaginable that meteorologists didn't explore this... I really want to see some evidence of a trickle down effect from the sun. Yes I realize its not actually super simple to do that but if EU is true then there must be correlation between magnetosphere activity and lightning activity. Maybe charge has a relation to precipitation too?

@psyaubs49 There have been some preliminary studies about the coupling between t'storm electric fields/lightning and the atmosphere, including the effects of chemical perturbations. The problem is that the total energy of lightning, which sets the level of things that can be done with it, is small compared to other forms of energy controlling atmospheric dynamics. If the EU folks want to make their case, they should join the fray with some quantitative, not just hand waving, models of their own.

If Birkeland currents are a well understood part of the magnetospheric system, and are included in standard Space Science courses, then why the hell do NASA and many in the mainstream continually refer to them as magnetic ropes? Because they prefer to see space as electrically neutral, and avoid messing up all their pretty math.

The point is that all these phenomena are expected in an electric universe, but not in standard astronomy. To suggest otherwise in disingenuous.

MHD processes are slowly being folded into the description of stellar and galactic dynamics, but you're right in suggesting that this is taking longer than it should. NASA's "official" posture on this issue shouldn't be viewed as anything more than the provisional views of whoever happens to currently dominate the panels that write the Roadmap. In the end it will all sort itself out. In any case, even the plasma description has its own version of "pretty math" that can't be avoided.

Well, plasma math (actually, the non-LTE statistical mechanics, both classical and quantum, of ionized media) is not uncomplicated, to be sure. But it's based on classical nonlinear partial differential equations, instead of Modern group theoretical concepts of elementary particle physics. In terms of what it takes to wield either of these I'm not sure which is more "complicated." In any case, mathematical expressions of physical laws are unavoidable; that's what makes science, well, science.

@Eastview605 The difference is that now computation sciences has accelerated to an era where simulation of plasma is feasible. If plasma can simulated then it can be observationally confirmed. Not the case with DE and DM. Also, EU theory seems pretty straight forward to test for since all we really have to do is send up some probes. If just 10% of resources was spent testing EU imagine what might have been accomplished?

Some of the info here is misleading. Birkeland currents are a well understood part of the magnetospheric system, and are included in standard Space Science courses. Also, sprites and their kin were first predicted on theoretical grounds by CTR Wilson, Nobel prize winner, in 1925, although it wasn't until 1989 that they were documented scientifically. Electrically charged dust devils were similarly investigated as part of preliminary studies on possible dust charging on Mars.
