I think it was great that they didn't mind A & B siding the lyrics [A] "Nothin' you can see that isn't shown." and [B] "What did you see when you were there? Nothing that doesn't show." Only The Beatles could get away with that !
@RRARafa HA! Love Paul's officious look while holding the camera in a convertible looking every bit the ROARING TWENTIES "When I'm sixty-four" dude, dude.
Damnit, The Beatles were/are the best ever. This is a relatively minor track, never a single, that the writer (John) never thought much of, off an album that isn't that highly esteemed (as Beatles albums go) and it works beautifully as the finale of a terrific contemporary movie, The Social Network. A filler, toss-off Beatles song, written and performed in a rush, is much better than practically any major single by a big artist today.
Like I said: Damn it, they were and are the best.
@misterdeadly1 Hey. If The Beatles were tossing-off, then they deserved it. Can't believe you'd bring their personal/privy-time lives into this ! (Sorry. Couldn't resist)
As corny as the cover for Magical Mystery Tour looks to me I'm now compelled to get the album even more. I never knew this song existed before tonight. Thank you iTunes for posting the original single covers when having artists talk about tracks from the Beatles 1 CD. I need Mystery Tour even more now.
Really what a great material, i'm a Beatle Fan ( i have all that i have for the Beatles) and in Anthology you just watch a little part of this i mean just a bit of this awesome stuff, the 2:12 is heartbreaking and Pauly what a great godfather. Thanks for posting this i send to my husband now.
ATTENTION ALL BEATLES FANS: On July 30, we are going to have a Beatles day! We are going to be watching as many Beatles videos as possible to boost up the views! Is it fair that Justin Bieber's Baby video has over 500 million views and the Beatles don't?? NO! Please copy and paste to all Beatles videos and thumbs up so it will stay at the top. Spread the word!!!
One of my favourite Beatles tunes too - amazing bass. Amazing everything actually! I think this may have been the absolute peak for the Beatles themselves - the late Summer of '67, flush on the success of Pepper, so in tune with each other, ideals of buying a Greek island and setting up a commune.... trouble with peaks is that you have to come down the other side.
This is a highly under rated song. I remember it being on the B side of "All You Need Is Love". Absolute genius that no one comes close to anymore. Music was exciting then, a real event when The Beatles had a new release. Nothing like them before or ever again.
If I remember correctly at this point in their careers they were considering buying an island off Greece. Part of the reason they wrote this song is the realization of just how bloody rich they were at this point. If they could buy an island..... who can do that???? They decided not to in the end.
0:59 ha ha..but I dare not as a brown skinned - as that will be taken as child abuse straight away :( World is good today but Lennon would have made it even better as he was the revolutionary kind and he cared. ..yeah I know it's Macca there in the vid..
I've loved The Beatles ever since seeing The Beagles at Chuck E Cheese in the early 80s but it wasn't until I listened to them stone that I realized their genius. A sound like this wasn't heard of at the time and hasn't been heard since. They will never be duplicated.
A masterpiece! A great song! Takes you everywhere. Such music! Wonderful and beautiful and full of melodies so hopeful and celebratory and with great instrumentations and harmonies. Transcendent. The song becomes a soundscape of images and color and the lyrics make me want to cry. Thank you John, Paul, George and Ringo for being a great band.
guys, stop hating on the people that hear the beatles through other things like movies or TV, i dont see anything wrong with it really just more people liking the beatles and hearing their message of peace?
@Shotgunner56 hush your mean trap. there's nothin immature about being young, but there is a whole heap of immature stuff related to strangers who tell other strangers that no one fucking cares about their addition to the speak easy pot. finding good stuff is a beautiful thing. its all random tandem as soon as we open our daft traps on these comments pages, so make the most of it
i watched that film yesterday and couldn't believe how good it is. it also reminded me how much i love this song
@Shotgunner56 i'll reply to a two year old comment in this ongoing comments box if I so wish . . . stop trying to win, you lame jeffer. i couldn't give a shiny shit who started it. My ignorance is not profound, but your sentences sure do try to clutch at a kind of moral high ground that really is beyond your worldly remit. I'll consider things worth considering and nothing more! Now pull it a little to the left, cos I appreciate having it shoved straight up your ass might be a bit uncomfortable.
@teamcrumb This was the most awesome "telling-off" of some1 I've ever seen!!! Its not very often that I get to see some1 use language in quite this way. I must say, you've impressed me with it. Excellent play on words. You've made my day!
To hear this song at the end of the Social Network was amazing. A career making song for any other artists. One out of hundreds of great songs by the Beatles.
@TheQuarrymen58 Love this and your channel is great. "Baby You're a Rich Man" is one of those tunes that gets into my head and once I've heard it I'm singing it all day. Now embarrassingly, I have to say that the album on which it appears is the one glaring omission from my Beatles collection. Must rectify IMMEDIATELY.
A filler song which if released today would be a number 1 hit. Clearly there are 5 people who will never be rich.
