For good range and visibility you will need something stronger than USB power for the infra red LED's,,,the security ones look pretty good with 30-50 LED's to light up the area,,,,,

Have a look in any good electronics shop and see if they will let you test them at home for a few days with money back if not satisfied,,,some shops allow 30 day money back policy if returned as new in box.

From what I seen USB cam have 6 LED's and useless in dark more than a meter away.
