I'm a Terp fan and yes, Bobby Ross was our coach that year with a then unknown offensive line coach and assistant coach by the name of Ralph Friedgen (Current Head Coach at Maryland). Ross resigned after the season due to the aftereffects of Len Bias' death, which cast a shadow over the Athletic Department and also in '86, the Terps went 5-5-1. We gave the Lions fits that year and in '88 down in B'more where the game ended in a tie at 13, the only time since 1961 that MD didn't lose to PSU.
Go Purdue!

Duffy Cobbs broke up a 2-point conversion late in the game that would have resulted in a tie. I *believe* Bobby Ross was the coach back then.
