They thought someone's car disintegrated and there were three cars in the wreck. They thought they had just seen somebody die, I think. Turned out no one was hurt.
If you were to watch NASCAR races on NBC, especially the later years, you would know why they would usually be nailed with the moniker of "Nothing But Commercials"
It depends on the crash. I cheer when Kyle Busch spins out and taps a wall, I don't cheer when someone makes hard impact or leaves the ground. I want certain drivers to finish at the bottom, but I don't want them hurt. I think there's a line between wanting certain drivers to crash out, and wanting drivers hurt.
Schrader had the roof cam on his #25 that day at Bristol in 1995. Craven did climb the left rear on Schrader's car while Schrader was slowing down to avoid a wreck. This was the only race (I think) where Craven's #41 ran green numbers that year.
damn that was bad wreck

it seems like Johnny Benson always used to get in the worst wrecks in the Cup series
utvolfan2012 1 year ago
Another thing with the wreck was that this was a little more than a month after his vicious Talladega wreck,
Definitely not a good year for Craven.

do you know if he races truck anymore? just wondering
RedSoxNation92 2 years ago
I don't believe he races anymore. I know he does NASCAR articles for Yahoo, but I don't think he races much, if at all.

There was a crash similar to this in the fall race that year, involving Ernie
Irvan and John Andretti.

we have a spin in turn 2 OMMFG!!! lol, they had great reactions
burtonfan2 3 years ago 3
yea if espn aired the race it would be like "ohh trouble in turn 2 big hit, we'll be back after these messages"
jrfan07 3 years ago 6
And if it was NBC, they would of went to commercials as he hit the wall, not even go through the rest of the crash.
PYLrulz1984 2 years ago
why would they do that

You are obviously a new NASCAR fan.

@jrfan07 If FOX aired that race, DW would have a heart attack.

I think their reactions are better than Jerry Punch's:
"Ohh, looks like a car seems to have spun." *no emotion*

Hard hit for both Benson and Craven. Both drivers were fortunate to be okay.
NAVGFan 4 years ago
Lucky that hit was on the passenger's side...Benson could have been seriously injured if not killed if that was on the driver's side...

dont forget the 1 or 2 hits he took in 97.. texas and somewhere else i think

Craven also landed on top of Ken Schrader at Bristol; not sure if that was 98 as well. That video is not yet on YouTube, by the way.

No, Schrader landed on Craven in 1995 at Bristol, a clip of it is on one of AdamSc3's comps, I believe it's #2, but I'll have to check.

DAMN!!!.. 2nd of many hard hits for Craven in the years to come.. was benson hurt in this one
JBOreo 4 years ago
The closest thing to an injury that Benson got in this crash was a bent pair of glasses. Nothing a good pair of small pliers can't fix.
