A collector would choose the submariner any day of the week. Omega have much better bracelets but the sub is a classic while the PO is a current trend
Both nice watches. The 16610 is a classic. Wouldn't the modern ceramic Sub be a fairer comparison to a modern Seamaster? It would have to be the black bezel for me. Also I know they are probably great for visibility but the discontinuity of the arrow shaped hands doesn't work for me, the second hand is pretty cool however. The numbers seem out of place on the dial and I'd have much prefered longer lume plots. Especially at the 12!! Why didn't they use the large inverted triangle lume?! Why!?
@Doggieman1111 Omega is a watch for real men. I understand you're a tiny girl with gay attitudes, so you prefer watches that best suit your small dick.
If you have enough money buy both,Rolex is a great investment ,every year the price is going up especially at this time when the 16610 model has been discontinued, but Omega planet ocean is an amazing watch as far as we are talking about precision, just amazing!
No contest...Omega is hands down winner. Rolex uses same ebauche as many others, just puts in a little better balance. People would not know the difference without a timing machine! Want to pay for a Rolex? Go ahead.
I was given the Submariner as a gift about 4 years ago, and I love it. But, man, the Omega Seamaster PO 42, steel with black strap is an awesome watch..it's calling me.
That omega looks much nicer and more modern than that dated looking rolex. That rolex looks like what some old man would wear to play the slots in atlantic city. The omega looks like what a younger well off stylish guy wears to some exotic european city. Although I dont love that orange, I like that black version more.
does it matter, take a reality check, these are both really expensive quality watches that most people would love to own. i have been lucky enough to have had both, had a blue seamaster mid size, sold it bought a submariner but sold that after seeing to many of them around with stretched braclet links ( not what you would expect from a prestige watch maker) bought another omega seamaster (Bigger size) and now have a black planet ocean 45mm. although a new style sub maybe on the way.
Asking an Omega or Rolex enthusiast to objectively point out which watch is better is like asking a football maniac to be objective about his team. Rolex watches are true masterpieces, I have one, but I am a third generation Omega enthusiast, I will always consider my Omegas superior works of art, I know I can't be objective about this, sorry.
@Dunl12496j The Omega Planet Ocean also comes with a black bezel. I can assume because you didn't know that you don't know watches. Also what makes you believe that Rolex last longer and are easier to sell? What data or personal life experience do you have to support that comment?
The original James Bond had a Rolex Submariner in the Ian Fleming novels. Personally I like the classic look of the rolex. It's personal choice though as both are lovely time pieces.
both are great watches, i prefer the omega but without the orange in general and in the 45mm version, but if you can have the two watches i think is better, in the rolex area i prefer the sea dweller that looks almost the same of the submariner but with better specs.
Absolute no contest I bought the New Submariner with the Ceramic Bezel. When you wear a Rolex you feel liek a king. The Omega is a good watch but the "Investment" is in the Rolex.
Both fine watches in their own right... The PO has a longer power reserve and, based on industry peeps, a better movement. The rolex is "too classic"; the design has so many homages that on a casual glance it can be mistaken for a multitude of watches with that style. The Omega's styling cues haven't been as "cloned"; making for a more unique, easier to inentify on a glance, watch... I'd go with the PO...
Subjective opinion; I own the orange bezel PO. ;-)
@mr2bmw Excuse me? people who "know watches" would say hands down every time that Rolex is the better time piece... Omega are great, but for longevity, Rolex takes it.
@mr2bmw I don't thing so. I have both and must say Omega is more precision, but I have broken the bracelet. Rolex is more durable and more comfortable.
I like the Rolex, just the right size and with a classic style that never seems to go out of fashion. Looks good during the day with jeans and a T-shirt and just as cool at night as a dress watch, versatile AND timeless. Omega is really nice a well a little more bling but not as classic.
The omega watch don't have there own mechanism. they just modified the ETA mechansm. Unlike Rolex has their own mechanism. And thru the years, they made some upgrades on their movement. So for me Rolex is still the better one.
@Offshore1875 Even if that is true, a Rolex is going to run around $6K, whereas the Omega should be under $4K. So the question then becomes is the Rolex really $2K better than the Omega? And given that the Omega has a co-axial movement, it will only need to be serviced every 7-10 years because of the reduced friction of the movement.
Also with this Rolex you have the stigma that any person who knows watches knows you just bought the cheapest possible Rolex. It's like buying a Porsche Boxter.
sad to say, but they're both shit.

darkcg79 1 year ago
Do you know wich movement they took for the omega?? in my opinion rolex is the better one.
Offshore1875 1 year ago
@Offshore1875 the movement is the Coaxial 2500c
tomee7 1 year ago
@Offshore1875 Caliber 2500 is based on an ETA 2892-A2, but
not much remains of that familiar workhorse
when Omega gets through with it. The caliber
has been given a new bridge for its self-winding
mechanism, a coaxial escapement, and
two tiny screws on the rim of its balance to allow
a watchmaker to finely adjust the oscillator’s
pulse rate.
In short, it's much better than the Rolex movt.
