  • Its not much of a swerve. It should be as tight as your average UK roundabout then the test would actually be useful in that bikers learn to do a complete stop on a roundabout which has the highest UK statistics for mental blackout before an accident for bikers which I reckon comes from fear which would dissipate if the rider knew he could stop.

  • I wish they would show it one more time...

  • that doesnt look too difficult?

  • If you can't pass this test then please give up ASAP. Look up on YouTube “ The French Motorbike Test ”

The average training time is about 6 months, not 6 days. All French test bike have full armour as they get dropped a lot.

P.S. When you have passed your UK test please Google IAM & RoSPA

Be Safe and remember that as a biker you are invisible to cars.

  • @gogosor

The amount of written off bikes I have seen with IAM badges mashed into the wreckage tells me something about it.

I have taken my IAM and I still think its obsessed with progress.

If it does not feel right don't do it.

I race enduro sometimes so I'm not naturally a slow rider (all the time anyway)

Dont put too much faith in IAM

  • The bike test is so F*&%$~d up atm in this country imo it's needlessly complicated and WAY too expensive to go from no licence to full licence, that's why i'm holding off getting mine this year in the hopes something is done to refine it .

@benjyboba To answer your question about how hard it is, A few people this year have broken Ankles,Leg's wrist's and worse doing it, and not so long ago an 18-year-old girl broke her neck and stopped breathing doing it (She is ok now btw)..

  • I did my test yesterday and got 38 Mph on the swerve...way too fast and skidded slightly when breaking (the road was covered in gravel), i was fortunate as the examiner saw me correct the skid by realeasing and reapplying the rear break and i passed!

  • Clear as mud?

  • Id never do that on the road! There have been so many accident in doing that manouver

  • arnt your cones are the wrong colour and could confuse?

  • Lets hope the new goverment forces the DVLA to scrap this test, as waiting list are long due to the lack of test centres, The old test had over 200 in the countrys, I think its around 40-50 now due to module one test. and why go 32 mph considering the legal limit is 30mph on the road

  • @kd84afc brilliant point dude

  • @g1ender thanks mate, I was glad I passed my test a month before the new mod 1-2 test come in, but it terrible what they expect leaners to do now, Some have to ride meny miles now on a 125 just to get a test centre, Its mad, and so meny accidents aswell due to that swerve test

  • @kd84afc want a better laugh i can get to practise coz of the weather im taking the mod1 based on wots on here if i was to reebook from the 10th jan it would b 8th of feb so i sed do one ill take ma chances bearing in mind this is my fourth rebook now with weather bullshit am just gona go for it no wonder there are so many bike riders without a license such a carry on and the money thats a diffirent story

  • @g1ender Its a complete fuck up, They did warn before this was introduce alot of people wouldnt bother with there test no more but continue to ride ilegally or just stay on there CBT..... I hope they sort it asap for new riders.

and if you do mate, Best of luck I hope you pass

  • @kd84afc cheers mate looks fairly simply its the life savers in an empty car i will fail on lol.

it is very hard to keep ma bike in the shed especially when ma kx250 is fookd haha

  • @g1ender you be alright mate, If you want something you can do it, before i passed my test I didnt ride much motorbikes, apart scooters every now again as a kid... Then one day I decided to wanna ride a bike. So I set myself a task of doing direct access.... you be alright mate... I failed my first test, then rebooked 3 weeks later I passed...

  • I've been riding for many years with full license, I was just wondering how hard this manover actually is., I wouldn't mind trying this for fun. I've no idea how tight or far apart the cones are but 50 kmph isn't fast at all but for a begginer it could be rather intimidating, I would like to try it to see how fast I could get round it.

  • @benjyboba In the video that was a first take, and I had never ridden the bike before. Its been done at 80kph (50mph) somewhere else on a youtube video, but I'll bet that wasn't a learner, or in the wet ;)

  • @moonshinepz

I have seen this exersise done at 65 kph in the wet by a learner

  • @benjyboba

its easy you can go to a instructor and ask him when he next has a training session and ask him if he will show you how and he might charge you but hey you get to try it all the measurements are on the dsa web site its all ways good to keep all your training

  • @robbie5210 Yer i'll try it on my Ducati 1198s and try and get the speed trap record too lol. Would I fail for slight wheelies lol. A friend of mine done this test recently and he said it was very easy. It was wet and he easily got way higher than the speed needed. Just a message for all learners. if wet keep it nice and smooth.

  • @benjyboba

yes you would fail for wheelies and stopies and burn outs and the instructore would get it trouble

the highest speed i have heared through the speed measuring device is 97 kph but the bike had abs and was done by a highly trained rider and i would not recomend it and most people come off on the E stop because the grab the front brake

  • @robbie5210 I think it needs to be turned and aimed as to get the gentlest swerve possible and acceleration like my 1198s, the brakes are phenominal but couldnt be used whilst leaning, so many a bit of trail braking to finish the turn and get it upright and aply full braking. 97 kmph isnt that fast but i guess it would be could the rider get it turned and braked afterwards. useing 1st gear would lauch the wheel skywards with poor throttle control, maybe 2nd might be a bit easier to control.

  • failed today for only reaching 49 instead of 50 on the swerve , thats 0.6 mph too slow in the pissing rain , maybe time for some descretion possibly

  • @ROOSTER165 - Hard luck m8. Most instructors even agree its a daft maneouvre to have on the test. Good luck next time.

  • @moonshinepz cheers mate guess its my fault fir not gving it a little extra

  • @ROOSTER165

you do know that your in the uk and it rains about 80% of the time suck it up it so easy the instructors who moan at the ones who dont know how to teach it and the 0.6kph to slow might to took your speed down to 30mph which most roads in the uk are

  • I have just booked my Module 1 test. I think this swerve looks okay to do. Howerver, I think if the surface of the road is wet and slippery, they must make exceptions to the speed? After all, it is a SAFETY exercise. Just hope I do my test in the dry!!

  • They don't care if its raining, on the first mod 1 i had, it rained and we could leave it if we wanted to and keep our money, so we could rebook, but thats only if the examiner thought it was bad enough... to be honest its not that bad on a bigger bike I think because theres enough power... but on a 125 its much harder, and I feel they should have different speeds really or at least have more room to do the swerve & emergency stop... but thats what I think, Least I finely passed my mod 2 now :)

  • oh when I said about the speed, I meant as in... 125s you have to hit 40kmph ,125 + should have to hit 50kmph...

  • Yes I agree with you, the 125's should be assessed at a different speed. I failed mine, on this avoidance- I done 47, then 49 Kph on my second one. It was entirely my fault for not getting my speed up, even though my Speedo on the bike I used said i was doing 36mph!! Re-test soon!

  • @Royalencrypter. my avoidance was 56kph and emergency stop was 59kph, on a cg125 from the 1800's.. why should the 125's be assesed at a diffrent speed? the idea is to roll on the power, do about 20 mph around the turn and roll on the power coming out.. it was very easy, i felt a bit stupid on mod 1 training for doing it so easily i thought i was doing it wrong due to all the hype about "the swerve test" yet it's dead easy, in the wet i'm sure the braking is more difficult but still do able.

  • @Royalencrypter I failed mine due to the same reason, my speedo said I was doing 35mph and they said I was doing 27mph! Well annoyed

  • yeah man passed august 2st attempt at part two and been rifing snce love it - havent had chance last few week bad weather got me a noce k8750 gsxr !!

  • Failed my Mod1 today on the swerve. Hit 48 kmph. The examiner said I let go of the throttle a little too early . Was kinda scary as it was pissing down. Re take in 4 Days time. Hope it doesnt rain again + need to practice keeping the throttle open while swerving through the cones.

  • thanks, well what my instructor said was I went in fast but when i came out of the turn I wasn't fast enough, ah well :/ I think I'd rather do that than get a minor or major. cheers :)

  • I did my mod 1 today, did everything great even this swerve but, i got 49kph twice! how annoying :/ ah well all part of the fun, but i must say it is pretty easy its just hard hitting the speed on a 125... but saying that i got 51 kph on the emergency stop lol, just my fault really ah well, good luck to everyone else, and take my word for it, its easy if you listen to the instructor and do it how they say, and maybe ask them to do one just so you get a better idea of it :)

  • i couldn't agree more- as long as you listen to a competent, critical instructor and put in the practice you should do fine.

as i say to my pupils, "if you wanna pass, get off your ass!"

  • Heared everyone saying how bad this new test is, that looks very easy especially in the dry and imagine how many bunnies are going to be safer crossing the road

  • well i was wanting to do my bike test but that just looks silly! lol random

  • Funny thing was in the practice - identical layout..i did not mess up even once..

  • I failed on the Swerve! Hit the cone..re-take on Saturday...

I dont know what i did wrong - think i lost concentration...but looking at the vid above it does look easy..

  • no it was second first time i knocked a cone in the slaom of all places got my mod 2 last week 1st time

  • have you gone for the road test yet? if so how did you fair?

  • passed it last week but its not easy

  • congrats man , was it ur first time??

  • do you counter steer through the swerve?

  • i passed this test yesterday, it was still wet but no raining and i found it quite fun tbh the only thing i found hard was getting a suzuki gs 125 up to speed through the speed trap :-) mod 2 booked

  • Nice one - :)

  • @6shaneyG9 are there any online resources to help me prepare for a test?

  • a good idea would be to try and line yourself up with the cones you have to avoid and go through speed cones at an angle, therefore a easier swerve

  • Note in this video its dry. Perhaps needs some care in the wet if you take your test here.

At this test centre there are ten or more freshly painted white/yellow lines, plussix changes of surface for this maneouvre alone - and some tar banding.

Is this the "high tech" good- grip surface of which they speak?

  • Well said mate, the suface is fucking terrible for a new biker in wet conditions, infact if it was raining on those painted lines it would only be luck that would keep any biker shiny side up

  • i passed it all first time, so i wud say it was easy...

  • Congratulations, well done.

    Ride safe!
