How can you NOT be happy playing this tune? Well played man. I stumbled across this looking for a Tommy emmanuel version - but I may have to try and pull this one off.
Hi, stopped by at the recommendation of Muhlenburger (YouTube handle). I'm glad I did, from one player to another: sounds sweet! Gonna check some more of your stuff out now.
@OJESUSLORDGOD the guitar is a Gallagher Ragtime Special. (Gallagher Guitars, Wartrace, TN) - Steve assisted Don Gallagher with the Design of a Steve Rector Model Gallagher based off of this platform, but fine tuned some more. Great guitar!
Thanks for the great tune ... I been watching others do this tune and its great to see such a fresh version . And yes , the delivery with the great big smile makes this just one fine vid of real good picking . thanks for the history of the song too. ..... post some moreSteve please ...
That F sharp on the second fret with the little open E string is a hard one to get onto but with practice I got it... Seems like that helps really make that song!!!!
I got a couple of lessons from Steve when we were teenagers, but he was way ahead of me. Haha, we had to go to the bootlegger to get Boones Farm wine 'cause we lived in a "dry" county!
Great for you to be that close. I got the idea that the county was dry because in "Nine Pound Hammer" Merle said "Its a long way to Harlan and and long way to Hazard just to get a little brew". Thanks for the answer. Milbourne
This is very nice. This music just want's to make you sit under a tree by a lake somewhere the whole day, playing guitar, fishing a bit, just enjoying life =)
Great finger picking style Steve. Would love to be able to pull that off. Im more of a lead blues/rock player. Good to see other Rectors out there with a little musical talent.lol
Very good. Merle Travis uses an G# in the bass of the E7 I believe Thom Bresh explained something about that. Picked by the left hand thumb. E on the bass sounds just as good to me
wow amazing

As we say in NH, Wicked Cool. My favorite version so far. All the feel of Merle, but no slave to his version. Nice stuff.

You are just as smooth as Travis and Bresh. Most pickers are a little choppy.
