  • wow amazing

  • How can you NOT be happy playing this tune? Well played man. I stumbled across this looking for a Tommy emmanuel version - but I may have to try and pull this one off.

  • You have the greatest smile in the world. Period.

  • he looks so happy, this is awesome!

  • Hi, stopped by at the recommendation of Muhlenburger (YouTube handle). I'm glad I did, from one player to another: sounds sweet! Gonna check some more of your stuff out now.

  • Best guitar rag ive heard on youtube

  • NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Loved that

  • anyone know what kind of guitar he's playing in this video?

  • @OJESUSLORDGOD the guitar is a Gallagher Ragtime Special. (Gallagher Guitars, Wartrace, TN) - Steve assisted Don Gallagher with the Design of a Steve Rector Model Gallagher based off of this platform, but fine tuned some more. Great guitar!

  • As we say in NH, Wicked Cool. My favorite version so far. All the feel of Merle, but no slave to his version. Nice stuff.

  • love the cicadas in the intro. its perfect.

  • he can really play! it makes me smile when i see his mouth from 2:03 to 2:06 :)

(yes when he moves his pinkie)

  • Can't tell if he's smilin' or if thats his playing face...

  • @kevstr432 It is his playing face...He tends to grit his teeth when he is picking.

  • that fat guy can play guitar, awesome song

  • Steve, how can I learn to play in your style ? Do I find tablature ? Do I find a guitar teacher who specializes in this style ?

  • The man can play!

  • His guitar playing is great but something is wrong with his mouth.

  • Hahaha he looks so happy!!!!

  • absolutely great playing, it swings like hell

  • great playing,..plus,..he looks like a raging psychotic when he's playin...haha!! ...dude concentrates..!

  • very nice, Is he wearing fake nails on a finger or two , on his right hand ?

  • from one picker to another, that was really fine playing.

  • Sounds good Steve, just like Merle........ Don

  • Great! Michel

  • Thanks for the great tune ... I been watching others do this tune and its great to see such a fresh version . And yes , the delivery with the great big smile makes this just one fine vid of real good picking . thanks for the history of the song too. ..... post some moreSteve please ...

  • That F sharp on the second fret with the little open E string is a hard one to get onto but with practice I got it... Seems like that helps really make that song!!!!

  • WOW GREAT!!!!!!!!

  • amazing, if i;m half as good as you one day I'll be a happy man.

  • Great fingerwork Steve. I have you on another tape of Muhlenberg Sound. "Pickin this box and sippin on strawberry wine".

  • I got a couple of lessons from Steve when we were teenagers, but he was way ahead of me. Haha, we had to go to the bootlegger to get Boones Farm wine 'cause we lived in a "dry" county!

  • Great for you to be that close. I got the idea that the county was dry because in "Nine Pound Hammer" Merle said "Its a long way to Harlan and and long way to Hazard just to get a little brew". Thanks for the answer. Milbourne

  • Magnifique interprétation ! Merci à vous.

    Great performance, thanxxx

  • Big man =alot of positive energy, its was soul lifting.Thanks.

Great to hear this song again---not too many people play it!

    Great job, Steve!

  • This is very nice. This music just want's to make you sit under a tree by a lake somewhere the whole day, playing guitar, fishing a bit, just enjoying life =)

  • how can i get exactly this tab?,

    must i pay for it?,

    greetz,

    Alex,

  • just the style I love and you make it look so easy but it's not.....

  • Great finger picking style Steve. Would love to be able to pull that off. Im more of a lead blues/rock player. Good to see other Rectors out there with a little musical talent.lol

  • I just love this version.

  • I've never seen anyone else that looks like they're having as much fun with the guitar as this guy. He is awesome.

  • You are just as smooth as Travis and Bresh. Most pickers are a little choppy.

  • Steve,

You are a great player.I love your style.I also bought your DVD.

We need some more videos please!

  • Very good. Merle Travis uses an G# in the bass of the E7 I believe Thom Bresh explained something about that. Picked by the left hand thumb. E on the bass sounds just as good to me

  • Very nice. Merle would be proud I'm sure.

  • Well that'll either wanna make ya quit playin or quit your job and practice all day!!!

Just brilliant! What a great story and incredible player!!! All the best stuff comes from the south!

  • just great, thanks for posting it.

  • He's awesome...

  • Great rendition
