Not sure the point of this Cliff's Notes version of the painstakingly paced movie. I've written an original song tribute to the master, "Here's To Alfred Hitchcock," the music video of which is viewable right here on YouTube. Just click on my name below.
You left out all of the many side plots and symbolism. All of the other people Jeff watched were very important to the story, and nobody knows what the magazine at the end meant, because that was just ending another side plot that was going on with Lisa and Jeff. Also, that voice sounded just like those widgets where you type in something and it talks for you. It was much too uniform to be a real voice. But you did do a good job of showing the main plot.
- About the symbolism: it is up to your interpretation(s), thus not part of the movie.
- You're right, all the other neighbors are important, but hey, it's classical H'wood narration, in which everything is important (otherwise it is left out = no unmotivated shot, character, montage, etc.). It's like making a map from a city: it requires some selection, however you know that the most precise one is the city itself.
Great film, haven't we all been there, unable to do anything for some reason, so you fill your time with something until you see someone get murdered, cut up, buried, dug up, and............. the rest as they say is history.
@MegaPatriot123 my name's MEGAPATRIOT. I'm a mega patriot. I hate everything that isn't near my fat white american body. I'm a racist but I tell people I'm patriotic. Everything is Obama's fault. and Clinton. And frankly I don't know any regional history before that but it doesn't matter. Washington and a cherry tree and some such. My name's MEGAPATRIOT and I'm a mega patriot. Mega.
What about Lisa changing her books into Women's Magazine at the end of the movie? I don't really understand the double meaning behind it... If there is one that is.. Anyone care to explain to me?
@thedemimusicluvrfan, he is a photographer, she wants to marry him but he wants to go away and take photos, she is trying to persuade and make him happy by reading about a book about a place he might travel.
Tu est française? :) Very nice summary!

I assume that after Thorwald was arrested, he was executed. After all, he killed his wife and some witnesses, and he almost killed Jeffries.

I think the magazine title was a play on words. Bazaar sounds like Bizzare so it's HItchcock's way of saying this was one strange movie.

This does seem very similar to Disturbia.

@ALLINKNOTS That's because Disturbia's a bad remake of Rear Window.

@1120pro It was Lars's mistress. The woman who was talking to on the phone all these days.

I've never seen this movie, and your 5 minute summary had me thrilled in suspense. Hitchcock is certainly a powerful film-maker.
