  • Michael palin is a great comedian.

  • 2:10 --- All I can say about Palin's wife is: Not Bad, Palin!

  • excellent thanks! I havent seen these since they were first aired, brings back memories of sitting around with my family :-)

  • Thanks for uploading bro!! awesome :)

  • I love this programme so much. So friendly, light and inspirational. I could watch it all the time.

  • michael palin wore a fez... more proof that they are in fact, and have always been cool.

  • @Randomness7171 even doctor who agrees with you.

  • It's interesting that they show him leaving on the Orient Express at the beginning, /then/ show him meeting with people and planning.

  • @girlsfoodsleep 3 words YOU KNOW NOTHING

  • I wonder if Michael Palin has seen An Idiot Abroad and what he thinks. How times change.

  • @nusquamesse1248 As much as I hate Karl Pilkington, An Idiot Abroad is a comedy show whilst this is a travel documentary, so you can't really compare the two.

  • @gelert456 Not comparing really. Though some writers have made the comparison. I was just noting how times change. Audiences choose chopped up moments of humiliating psuedo-reality served as self-effacing humour, rather than good old introspective documentation. Palin is traveling as much within himself with us, as he is traveling without.

  • @nusquamesse1248 I completely agree with you I don't see what the attraction of 'An Idiot Abroad' is, but it keeps the viewing figures relatively high, and thats what tv executives care about really, profit instead of quality. but hey I'm not judging each to their own.

  • No aircraft? Did not Phileas employ a hot air balloon? Up, up and away Michael :P

  • @nusquamesse1248 Yes indeed,which was shown later in the series,..at a stretch granted :)

  • the advise alan whicker gives is the best. if you are in a foreign country try not to speak their language but speak the one you are used to whatever language that might be.

  • This was such a great, memorable series. I made sure I never missed an episode when I watched it back in the early 90's on PBS--it really made you want to travel to all the exotic places in the world.

  • I saw this when it first aired in 88, at the age of 18. At the age of 32 I too took a trip around the world. I took 8 months to do it.... with Palins adventures in my mind all the way :)

This program is truly inspirational :D

  • Who was the old chap above Hyde Park that Palin interviewed? who advised him to speak English at all times of trouble.

  • @BucksSpur - Alan Whicker

  • @BucksSpur That's Alan Whicker. He was so famous in the UK 20 years ago, he didn't need an introduction. He worked for the BBC for many years and travelled all over the world.

  • 2:46 OH MY GOD HE'S WEARING A FEZ!

  • its great travel like that but well i guess tv paid for that you have to be millioner probably to travel like that

  • I used to have this on video until my VCR died. I remember watch this in high school and wishing I could visit all those exotic places, including London. 20-odd years later and I've only visited a few of them but I've loved this show ever since.

  • this series made me fall in love with travel as a child, something I have carried with my for my whole life - thank you, Mr Palin, and to the uploader :)

  • One of THE great documentary series.

  • @tankiulhasan In 1988 ? They were just brand new :)

  • This is a fantastic series - I recall being glued to the TV screen every week when it was broadcast in 1990. And this was all before the internet and GPS!! The whole series was even shot on 16mm film with a whole crew, producers etc etc - it must have cost the BBC a fortune! AMAZING!!!

  • omg! I've been searching for this series ever since I saw the 2009 one...

    bless you :)

  • Thank you!!! One of my favourite books and i love Palin so hopefully i'll enjoy this series.

  • thankyou so much for these!!!! :)

  • @mdott00000 you're more than welcome
