How to Root AT&T Galaxy S2 on Mac or Linux! [SGH-i777]

Do you know if this will work for the T-Mobile Galaxy S2? I have a mac.. I run Windows XP on parallels too but would prefer to run on mac if I can. What would you advise?

@Rond1zzle Doesn't work on AT&T version either. And the method shown for getting into download mode is wrong for AT&T Galaxy S II as well. Finding the correct way took a few searches. I'm on Gingerbread 2.6.3 and guess I'll dig as I get time and will post the correct way to do it when I figure it out or find it.

I do all of your steps and got all the way to the part where it says handshaking with loke but I got a message saying "failed to open zImage" and when i tried again it said "failed to receive response"

@c510sony1 same method just different zImage files, you will have to extract the insecure tar files and flash the zImage you get in Heimdall.

I'm using GS2 I9100 and i tried this method off course with a different Kernal and this is what i'm getting "Failed to detect compatible download-mode device."

@zedomax Hey thanks for your reply. Im pressing the Down volume button-middle button-power to go into download mode. I've researched this and it seems to be some issue with macbooks. Its so frustrating to have a android with a macbook. If possible could you also make a video using a iMac or a macbook with iGT9100. Btw nice channel and keep up the good work!

I rooted my Galaxy Tab 10.1 watching your video and now I want to root my Galaxy S2 also. my question is., will I be able to upgrade to ICS with rooted devices or will I have to restore back to stock or unroot?

@JonGarrett2008 yes most likely there will be a rooted ICS ROM anyways, no need to ever go back to stock unless u r returning the phone for warranty.
