I always thought that he was put on drugs becuase his doctor thought he was wierd. And through the song he realizes that even if he was crazy its what was normal to him. I always got the vibe that at the end he realizes what is normal is what you make of reality.

Well, actually, the whole "Normal" album was recorded when Ron Thal was put on antidepressants; the album is extremely personal-- as it progresses, Ron began to realize that the medication was blocking off something vital to his creativity, and eventually decided to take art over the meds to regain his full potential and ability. In his biography he states that after this he's been focusing hard on surrounding himself with positive energy, and it's working for him :)
