I've owned a Bassman reissue since 92 and that setting in this video is not a tone setting I would endorse. A strat should never need that much presence, that little bass...but that's just me wanting to hear TONE, not SHRILL.
I dont get why some people think Shane is bad player. i personally liked the part he played in the beginning. Just because hes not ripping out inredible riffs and mad solos doesnt mean hes a bad player. Fender wouldn't have someone that couldn't play in videos demonstrating equipment the whole world can see.
@guitarcapo The bass and treble on Bassmans create a very muddy sound. I always have mine very low or off. Especially in the bright channel, you have all the treble you need. And after all, it is a BASSman. : )
@guitarcapo This is fender's "flat" setting. The mids only attenuate and the bass and treble only boost, so in the opinion of the manufacturers, that's the most even setting.
@guitarcapo in all actuality, probably not... you'd have to do some amp "surgery" and get the pillow in there and then put everything back together when you could just play with the knobs for a second...
these demos are poor..poor players making demos over great amps...i wonder why..if there would better players, they would defenitivly sale more amps, thats for sure!
in the vid its already loud enough to be driven naturally but he turned the guitar volume down to make it clean and then rolls it up to get the overdrive. So yes its natural
No. There is only one input. However though, it is only 50 watts, but it is a LOUD 50 watts, but still if I'm playing in an auditorium or stadium, I'm definately gonna PA it. If you play metal, you'll definately need a distortion pedal. I strongly recommend the digitech hardwire metal distortion, because it's literally like a mini high-gain amp. I use it in my other band for when I play lead guitar with this amp.
I have a '65 Twin Reverb (re-edition, Jensen speakers), I would like to buy 10 of these, it' s the best amplifier ever (for me). I also have a Bassman 70 (original of the 70's), it' s great for bass, wurly, ecc. but there' s no story: the Twin it' s perfect for everything, it' s a beast! AC30 it' s great but very limited in comparison to Twin... Good Luck!
Fair enough: A variety of factors ultimately play into the equation. I just want to disabuse anyone of the notion (which this video seems to foster) that all you have to do is lean into this amp a bit to make it overdrive. You'll need earplugs, a heavy hand and, as you suggest, a small room. Even then, "results may vary."
Trust me, I've tried. Even ran my EBMM Axis Supert Sport (with humbuckers) through the same settings: nothing. Incidentally, running the Bassman at a volume of 5 will blow out your eardrums. The video is a bit misleading on that score. Don't get me wrong: I love the amp. But unless you regularly play in a very large roomm you'll have a hard time pushing this amp to get the the kind of natural overdrive on display in this video.
I have exactly (exactly!) the same setup (guitar and amp)and there is no way you can get the Bassman to break up like that at those settings (volume especially). Not even my java boost was able to create that kind of overdrive, let alone the feedback... Either there's a pedal or a mod involved.
Excellent, and well-done. I like the clarity of the sound sample without all the talking. Showing the knob settings is outstanding. Great job Fender!
Awful demo of this amp. Sounds very cold.

What's up with all this bass=2, treble=1, mids cranked?
Wouldn't it be easier to stuff a pillow in front of the amp?

I wonder if he's using external OD, or if it's natural? Sounds great either way.

@quilicimusic It's natural OD. I have one. Overdrives great. It just gets muddy on the low end.

I was thinkin of gettin one of these, but this was terrible.

when you play one in person its an experience...kind of like the first time you play a fender twin reverb...dont judge from this video...

How does this amp sound with pedals? I use a Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face, Ibanez Tube Screamer and Vox Wah-Wah (braggin').
I'm asking because of how it distorts with no pedals anyway.
JimmyGuitarist 2 years ago
dude the Vox wah sounds amazing with these tube amps i have one

I can play both. I play bass mostly. Even though I used to criticize this amp, I just may get one because it can work well with both lol.
Hendrixidol 2 years ago
can both be played in the amp at the same time?

Just because its named bassman doesn't mean its a good bass amp. Things have progressed since the 50'ies, bass-wise.

Those Fender Super Sonic amps are killer. My favorite amp that I've found so far.

am i crazy or this amp should be really kickass with bass guitar?
after all it is a bass amp

No it wouldn't. I have one and used to play bass through it. Can't handle it.

Maybe the amp has an another bias setting on this video.

I went to my Bassman LTD today and set it like the settings pictured there; it worked for me. 10 guage strings, heavy pick, beat the crap out of it.
Also, small room=better feedback.

I don't know...a Bassman set on '5' a few inches from the guitar's humbucker...probably not too hard to make it feed back.
