phil Collins is the most complete artist, he can play all the instruments you can ever imagine...and his lyrics are awesome....have you ever listem them???
For you guitar fantatics, Steve Hackett was amongst the first to use the "triplet" method on the first solo of this song; listen carefully. Eddie Van Halen took it a step further, naturally and got the bulk of the credit. But Steve was among the first. He rocks, as does Peter. Fuck Fil anyway.
Poor. Not even attempted to make the visual look even slightly in sync with the audio. Great song though from probably my favourite album from the Gabriel period. But better live films of this song exist.
See this video MATCH UP with the audio by searching keywords 'Genesis Six Hours Live DVD' I've posted I Know What I Like from the same show. This DVD also has other improved audio from rare Genesis concerts from the 70s. Disheartened by the Reunion news? Then Check out Six Hours Live to experience the good days of Genesis with Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel
You should post Genesis's 'Keep It Dark' video, it's one of their best, very visually striking in places. Try and get the audio to sound good if you can. Does this site only do mono?
Agreed with above comment: video footage definitely is not from the same gig as audio. Anyway: Genesis are perfect! Virtuoso musicians making magical and very inspired music. And it's beautiful music too (perhaps that's why critics stayed away?). Can't get enough of 70s Genesis!
I first heard this when I was 15, when it first came out; around 1973. This song always took me away to some other place. I haven't heard it in at least 20 years and it still does the same thing to me. Incredible musicianship and creativity.
This clip is from the song: Dancing With The Moonlit Knight, a classic.
Also, Ditto PrZemek44's comment, and if you listen to Nersury Cryme Foxtrot, SEBTP, you will hear Phils early "jazz" influenced drumming AND he excellent percussion work too.
To appreciate this music you have to listen (and not just once) to the studio version. Genesis, Yes and all that progrock from that time is my absolutelly favourite (rock anyway) music. It's awsome! I's been 40 years and I still can't get enough of it!
Pete was crazy. Interesting period. I saw them in '74 in Chicago and people booed! I was embarassed for them. Critics were harsh at times too. They made fun of his hair, the scalp shaving. That was for the adhesive so the masks stayed put. Nobody figured that out so they poked fun. Genesis was great.
that's a sad story,in Montreal they were revered from the get go and ever since.I'm almost sure this was recorded at the University's Sports Center in Montreal.
I thought as much. He came off weird and used the odd hair etc as a catylist for the band, you know. No such thing as bad attention for getting noticed. He had quit a few months earlier and the hair went business man's! I did not hear the Lamb when I saw it so I was lost, as was everyone else. It was a hard listen first time. They played it all and then one song! That was it.
SEBTP is one of their most polished, no filler, tight efforts. Hackett's best playing IMO: explorative and authorative. Van Halen took some cues from this album, perhaps. Either way, SH pipped EVH to the post with the tapping technique!
Battle of Epping forest is an absolute disgrace and kills the album. I know what I like is pretty dire too. Poor Genesis album. Steve does shine though.
I don't think you're a real Genesis fan. I mean, you maybe listened to it once and dismissed it right away. Agree 100% with soblueimblack, it's one of their absolutely best! Battle of... is as great as other songs, and Firth of Fifth is... have no words, Cinema Show... EVERY song is nothing short of absolute perfection. Love it!

As a vocalist Collins makes a bloody good drummer..!!

Phil was a drummer way before he was a vocalist. He's a good singer, but Peter has more charisma and intensity than Phil.

Steve was doing it on earlier albums too. This was their 5th album, he used the "technique" on the third and fourth ones. Peace
