  • the drum is tuned like shit but this head sounds wonderful! Check out my channel to hear how it sounds... and check out my other stuff too :)!

  • @MrStoner46 good comment by getting people to go to your channel..

  • @majestytd Hey, bro, check out my channel :) XD

  • Just got one of these, and damn. They sound amazing, and put in the damping ring, and it kills all the unnecessary tones, and it sounds SO good. ( If tuned properly XD )

  • This is shit

  • first pause the video, then press 2 : to hear the first test, press 4 to hear the second test, and 6 for the last ... there are differences, but to be honest.. not so much at all ... i think a pillow inside the bass drum sounds

  • @arrackattack * the same/better

  • I like the sound of the emad but the ring is in the way if you are using a hoop mounted trigger.

  • @TheDonnytomlinson Why are you worried about sound if you're using a trigger? Or do you combine the mic'd sound with the triggered sound?

  • Aquarian SuperKick2!!!

  • Hmm...so no more pillow in the drum huh?

  • Remo's Powerstroke 3 FTW!!!

  • Even if they all do sound the same, once you get this head on your bass drum the 3 different sounds will become obvious.

  • I'm trying to find the perfect replacements for my bass drum's stock heads, and this seems to be a great batter head. Can anybody recommend a good resonant head to go with it?

  • The dissapointing problem i always seem to have is... the plastic holding in the foam ALWAYS cracks and shatters... the foam always ends up falling out... same thing keeps happening with the R-emad... the foam insert tore in half and flapped about.... (all installed professionally the second time with same result)

  • @JAMESHARTDRUMS When was the last time you purchased an EMAD? They've addressed this problem already.

  • random ass idea here, no real thought process... : what if you used balloons?

  • Ahhh the power of mics

  • love the emad2, its got the perfect amount of click and low end really turned my bass drum into a cannon i dont use anything in it now

  • The ring falls off too easily for me :(

  • Idk what they used for a microphone, but it sucks.. The difference between the thin to wide ring is huge.. Easily one of the best bass heads out there.. The 2 ply with wide ring is pretty much spot on for any fast hitting metal music type.. love this head..

  • how can i get a similar sound?

  • It sounds awesome. I want this.

  • So, the ring works like the pillow on the bass drum?

  • @Rushfan551 no it works a little better than the pillow. because ur only dampening the head, the drum can vibrate to its fullest, resulting in no loss of volume

  • @Rushfan551 sorta.. It acts more as a tone control kind of.. It focuses on low or high (mostly high) end noises (depending on the setup) and quiets or gets rid of it.. I still recommend a pillow for this head.

  • "The Rev" Bass drum head :)

  • Metal drummer... Super Kick 2 or Emad 2?

  • @woweasyguides I just bought an EMAD2, really interested in trying the Superkick though.

Still, the EMAD is my favourite Kick head ever!

  • @woweasyguides definately emad 2... way shorter decay man, very punchy and articulate.

  • So I just got a set of Evans heads for my 4 peice kit to replace all the Remo's I had before. I got a Coated EMAD, Coated G2's for the toms, and a EC2 Snare batter and Hazy 200 reso. My drums have never sounded better. No more Remo. I'm all for Evans.

  • Using this head enables me to use Quite a bit less muffling in my bass drum. I have nothing against my batter head. All that's in my bass drum is a rolled up blanket against my Resonant head. EvansPercussion you should make the EMAD2 available in white coated as well!

  • EVANS FTW!!!!

i use evans EMAD batter and reso

    evans onyx

    evans hd dry

  • Ive had one of these. E-mad clear. Been beating on it for 2 years and its still holding up great.

  • Cant go wrong with a superkick 2 :]

  • my pillow work as good as that

  • JUST FITED MINE! ITS SOUNDS SEXUAL!

  • GO REMO POWERSTROKE PRO!!!!!

  • WOAH!!! Double Pattened All The Way!!!! What Does This Mean!!!!??

  • so they made an EMAD and GMAD, but no UMAD???

  • You are not going to hear a striking difference because it's same head, same bass drum and same tunning in all three. Only thing changing is the ressonance; it dies out with the rings, while they provide more "punch". Even so, it is nowhere close as noticeable as it would be live.

They do not sound the exact same, but anyone watching this video and saying there's a huge difference is just trying to look smarter than they are. Trust me.

  • @SpaceDyeDream Incorrect.

  • if you think they sound the same, listen to them in person and THEN say that they sound the same...I love this drumhead, but I prefer the EMAD2...that thing is GODLY

  • wow i need to get these. instantearboner

  • I used to love the two ply Emad, but then I switched to the EQ3, liked it more, than finally made my mind up with the Aquarian Super Kick II. I have a ec2 on my toms, and a remo CS dot two ply on my DW edge snare, and my kit sounds awesome!. My major problem with the Emad2 was after not so much use, that plastic ring holding the foam on would split, and would cause a lot of rattle. EQ3 was great, no problems there, but Super Kick II is by far the best. People either love it or hate it!

  • anyone who thinks that they all sound the same needs to get their ears checked....

  • Remo Emperor is the only bass drum head for me.

  • sounds the same.

  • @TheMegaPaintballer So many sub-par drummers on this video. They don't sound they same, bro.

  • yep. Sounds the same.

  • @toddy1968 Actually, they don't. You need to get better speakers or headphones if you think they sound the same.

  • the plastic ring will cut you deep. i sliced my finger good one time

  • wow. I love how this bass is tuned. Best one iv heard in like FOREVER.

  • I use an Aquarian Super Kick for my bass drum. I really like it.

  • bigtitties1234.... seriously

  • Best bass head our there. So versatile. Remo sucks ass

  • @gddrummer13 Lol. You are clearly uneducated. I've never found an Evans head that truly pleased me, but I've yet to find a Remo head that DOESN'T please me. No company sucks ass.

  • I think the people who think they sound the same, have crappy speakers. Get some reference headphones or speakers and you will definitely hear all three different sounds. I personally think the emads are the best bass heads.

  • @goldenchild4942 or they could buy it i got the head and it makes a difference with an without the rings

  • @goldenchild4942 yeah man haha, i wish they did this un mic'd too so youc ould hear what they'd sound like that way

  • @goldenchild4942 Not even, dude, the audio quality for the video is pretty lame too

  • @goldenchild4942 Nah man, it's all those people who play drums in their garage with concrete walls and don't wear earplugs :) I have pretty lame speakers...the difference is very obvious.

  • @goldenchild4942 still with reference speaker the video sound almost the same on the three configurations.

  • what bass drum is this, and what reso head?

  • what a huge difference! :O

  • i have this head but it doesnt sound too seep, on my bass drum, does my resonant have anything to do with this?:)

  • there's actually a really noticeable difference...

  • mine is exactly the same sound!!!

    EMAD rocks!!!

  • why do i hear a bass guitar over the bass drum?

  • I like it without the dampening ring.

  • of course it sounds the same, because the head stays the same, also in its tuning. means every three times its been hit, it produces the same tone. the different foams just cut away the overtones and shorten the sustain. accordingly theres an emphazise on the kick/ attack. so you can clearly hear a difference between attack, sustain and overtones, well at least i do. the tuned tone of the bassdrum stays the same.

hail to all the drummers out there ;-)

  • it sounds like a growling tiger

  • the very last one with the thicker foam definitely sounds different, but the first two sound very similar, great bass head :) add a pillow or bunched up sheet and this sounds amazing :)

  • ITS SOUNDS AMAZING!

  • For metal, EMADS are a must if you want that "triggered sound"

  • Try the Remo Powerstroke Pro. It sounds amazing

  • @KDWorldBrickPix

The Powerstroke Pro is a fucking copy of the EMAD!!! They sound the same...

  • 0:22 0:40 1:00 what's the difference?

  • @louis595 0:22 the sound is very open. there is a light attack and clearly noticble resonance, which is typical for bass drums with no muffling. 0:40 the low end is much clearer. The attack is a bit more defined and much of the mid rage resonance is cut. 1:00 The attack is very clearly defined. More of the high to mid resonance is cut giving the drum a defined attack with a oomph kind of low end. Basically the bigger the ring you add, the less upper end resonance is noticable.

  • Evans on bassdrum: YES, Evans on toms & snare: no thank you!

  • @Dutchoss I personally think that evans has great heads for all the drums, but I feel that remo gives a better overall variation.

  • someone kick this guy in the balls

  • Do the rings come with the head or is it separate from the head

  • @Ludwigzildjian1 They both come with it.

  • Ehh I like my pillow

  • I have the Emad 2 ply and it sounds fucking awesome it all the lows you want with now annoying ringy sounds

  • press

    2- no foam rings(just plastic)

    4- small foam ring

    6- big foam ring

  • And still No Onyx for the 24"..Sad Day :(

  • @AGodlessMachine I know. I want them to come out with a 24" Onyx already. That'd be awesome.

  • @DysnomiaBlue I keep Pestering Evans About it, so Now I'll have to harass them @ Namm an Musikmeese about making me a custom one, But I think we Are Not the Only ones that would Like them to Offer this Oynx in a 24" to the Market, I Already have one on my 20" kick but I'm Tired of Using the Coated E-mad on my 24",But Don't get me wrong, I like it..but I Really Like having that Dark Body fat Tone with the Oynx's and Works Specular for the Music We Create..and yes Aesthetically it looks great..

  • What resonant head are you using?

  • The umad system. Problem Evans?

  • I don't understand, does this just go over your bass drum head?

  • Comment removed

  • the first is better

  • There is a difference in them all, you have to have a good ear for it. They slightly get more punchy and get lower tone.

  • well they all sound amazing, but they're all the same...

  • @jakubrox19 Listen to it with earphones in.

  • is it just me or did those all sound the same?

  • I got one of these and I dont know its me or the bass drum but I could not get it to sound good and I have had this kick sound good with other heads

  • sound awesome

  • yo guys if you wanna hear the differences just press these number keys

press 2 to hear head with out ring dampener

press 4 to hear narrow ring dampener

press 6 to hear wide ring dampener

all three sound the same with very very slight ring difference.. i was expecting to hear more of a change like toms with and with out e rings.

  • Aquarian Super kick II

  • I have tried two of these, and that cheap flimsy plastic retaining ring keeps breaking... I am going to Aquarian on my next change out. Such a shame, because I really like the sound I get with the smaller ring in place...

  • So, the bass drum pedal @ 1:46 logo is covered up, but before the viewer can read on the pedal that it's a DW? Lame. I don't think this video would want to make people by buy a DW pedal, so frickin show it!!!

  • they all sound the exact same...

  • @Sophenomenos In this video, they sound way more similar than they do in real life, I couldn't tell ya why. I've got the Onyx myself, and believe me, there's substantial difference between the three configurations.

  • @Sophenomenos Use earphones.

  • @Sophenomenos You must be listening on really shitty speakers.

  • @Sophenomenos you're kidding right?

  • @Sophenomenos not in real life, my god they are awesome

  • @Sophenomenos They are pretty different...

emad 2 change a lot with thinner or fatter ring...

  • @Sophenomenos maybe if ur not a drummer, but they sound way different...

  • @Sophenomenos you need some ears with good function. same tone, only gets darker with damping and shorter with less overtone. But there is difference!

  • @Sophenomenos they have huge differences in sound, are you deaf?

  • @pballer225 A huge difference? From this clip I would say there is a slight difference.

  • @Sophenomenos

    Nope ... there's for sure a difference.

  • @Sophenomenos they do sound similar. if you were playing it though, you could notice the difference. I have it on my bass drum, its great if you are looking for a nice studio type of sound

  • @Sophenomenos You're obviously a beginner drummer

  • @Sophenomenos then you must be deaf.

  • @Sophenomenos Not at all actually...

  • @Sophenomenos No it dosnt. you just cant tell....

  • @Sophenomenos If you listen through decent speakers you can hear the low end getting stronger

  • @Sophenomenos ahaha your fkn deaf idiot

  • @Sophenomenos no they dont

  • @Sophenomenos

    they do not

  • @Sophenomenos theese are all things that you can only really hear and feel when you play it. i dont evcen kow why they make theese videos. marketing i guess.

  • @Sophenomenos uhm...yeah...im very sorry for you my friend...

    *shakes head*

  • Mine's on order, I can't wait!

  • How can I get that "...And Justice for All" sound on my bass drums. What kind of batter & resonant heads should I use?

  • @Metallicalism86 That album was made with drum triggers. The only way you'd be able to get it to sound a little bit like it would be with any batter head, tuned loose, with a blanket or something up against it.

  • superkick II with resonant head

  • @endtymeelement Actually I use a Superkick II with an EMAD resonant head. Excellent combo! :D

  • @endtymeelement I personally don't like the superkick II, superkick I, or anything from aquarian in general. I feel that those two heads are too muffled.

  • what resonant head?

  • someone please help. metal / rock drummer (me) what should i get emad2 or remo powersonic (clear or coated) or aquarian supperkick 2

  • @LTLfilms aquarian, less hassle, lasts a long time, sounds great. The combo I have is the super kick 2 and a regulator with tithe port hole on the side with an empty bass drum. It sounds great and you can really mess with the tuning. I play jazz but the super kicks are good for anything.

  • i recently put an EMAD on my bass, and it rings like no other. Do i need to just keep tightening it?

  • @BNSdrumm3r

Did you check the reso head? If not, you probably have it too tight. You should have the bass drum tuned as low as possible while still maintaining resonance ( unless you play jazz ), If not just keep messing with it.

  • I read reviews on this head and most people said that the plastic breaks off and I bought the head because it sounded awesome. Two weeks later and the plastic started to break off. not a good head if you're playing out a lot.

  • @ChrisJenkinsLLG This issue was fixed in production back in 2009.

  • All three sounded the same to me....sounded awesome...but the same.

  • @jar3817 What are you using for speakers?

  • What other bass drum head can make such a sound??

  • i wish they compared the EMAD, EMAD COATED, EMAD ONYX, GMAD, and EMAD2. sounds like much but unless you can find 5 bass drums, tune them up, and then compare, there is no way of telling the difference.

  • how much do these go for??

  • whats good about evans is that it really sounds, i bought a bass drum batter a couple of months and i couldnt hear anything else than my bass drum, i had to fix that problem but man, evans rule... shame the coated heads are only a paint on the head and not texture the plastic like rmv does... (remo uses the paint too, which leads to the coated wearing off eventually)

  • Lol, bye bye triggers :D

  • nice please make a 24" one

  • @metallica1252 Evans has always offered 18" through 24" for the EMAD. Evans announced a 26" model at winter NAMM 2011.
