this is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. He covered the songs because they're great songs that span a wide variety of musical tastes, not to somehow exert dominance over a FF song at the superbowl. He wasn't rehashing his old stuff or hocking a new album, just melting faces with some kick ass solos on possibly the greatest 12 min set the super bowl will ever get.
Interesting theory, but no. No one gives more credit to Prince for this song than they do FF. For instance, I didn't know for the longest time that All Along the Watchtower was Bob Dylan's song. I had no Idea. But everyone still knows that Best of You is the Foo Fighters, and until Prince actually records and releases a version, it will stay that way.
Plus, Prince's voice is just so freakin' irritating here, like a squawking bird, that it won't replace Grohl's rock vocals. Ever.

I wish there was a full video of this halftime performance on YouTube. I felt it was the best Super Bowl halftime show I'd ever seen -- They are normally corny and lame, where the artist plays a crappy abridged versions to cram into the 10 minute time slot.

i respect prince as a great musician, but in my opinion i think this sounds absolutely terrible, he doesn't perform it with enough passion, and because of that the whole feel of the song is lacking.

Prince had no business singing this song and messing it up the way he did. This song is awesome and he ruined it. He only did it cuz he was jealous that the Foo Fighter did a better version of Darlin Nikki that he did. I am a big fan of Prince and Foo Fighters, but that's just how it is.
I love the Foo Fighters, but I can't dismiss brilliance. Prince's charisma that night was off the charts. It's no secret he wasn't happy when the Foo Fighters covered Darling Nikki. But his raw, seething, arrogance coupled with his technical "fuck you" guitar work was... amazing (gross understatement).
While Prince did rock the song, I don't feel he captured the emotion behind it. I absolutely love this song, even if radio tried to overplay it. It's such an emotional song, and I don't think anyone could have done it the way the Foo Fighters do it.
It's the same with any cover of Purple Rain or Beautiful Ones. No one will ever be able to capture the raw emotion that Prince puts into those songs.

My friends cousin actually taught Prince how to play a bodhran, and this guy is the best Bodhran player in the world and Prince isn't a patch on this dude. Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins are probably way better drummers than him. Prince is a funk musician keep in mind. And Dave Grohl can write WAY too many good songs too. He covered the songs because they're great songs that span a wide variety of musical tastes, not to somehow exert dominance over a FF song at the superbowl. Interesting theory, but no. No one gives more credit to Prince for this song than they do FF. For instance, I didn't know for the longest time that All Along the Watchtower was Bob Dylan's song. I had no Idea. But everyone still knows that Best of You is the Foo Fighters, and until Prince actually records and releases a version, it will stay that way.
Plus, Prince's voice is just so freakin' irritating here, like a squawking bird, that it won't replace Grohl's rock vocals. Ever.

I wish there was a full video of this halftime performance on YouTube. I felt it was the best Super Bowl halftime show I'd ever seen -- They are normally corny and lame, where the artist plays a crappy abridged versions to cram into the 10 minute time slot.
Prince, however, turned it into something cool by carefully selecting songs of his and others and turning them into a cool medley.

While Prince did rock the song, I don't feel he captured the emotion behind it. I absolutely love this song, even if radio tried to overplay it. It's such an emotional song, and I don't think anyone could have done it the way the Foo Fighters do it.
It's the same with any cover of Purple Rain or Beautiful Ones. No one will ever be able to capture the raw emotion that Prince puts into those songs.

Prince is talented, he is modern day mozart. He doesn't even have 2 try hard now. He is a legend. He became a legend fast too. It didn't take him long. Wow! FF have been around for a while..hmmm....

I'm defending the more recent of the two bands and you are calling me old? Hmm.... Do you know when FF came out? 1995. Did you know that shortly thereafter, people began to pirate music online? All of Prince's records were probably sold rather than stolen? Who knows how many records FF would have sold had they not become famous in an era of online piracy? I give FF credit for selling as many records as they have considering how everyone pirates their tunes these days.
