  • We will never see dancing like this ever again. Mr. Skylark is correct, this is when Hollywood had class! An era that will remain in the 20th Century.

  • This was when Hollywood had Class

  • i wonder why fred astaire never reved up his dancing 4bore 100% fast i wouldn't have been that humble, lights out baby!

  • @jeryd2003

Your comment isn't comprehensible. Both Astaire and Powell could dance a lot faster than this, together and in their solo routines, but this part isn't meant to be a fast dance. I don't know what being humble has to do with it.

  • @EandMetal if astarie was the greatest dancer then he should have coreagraphed some dancing routines to prove that: that means very fast, precise, sharp, smootheness, ease of movements & intricate dance steps.

  • @jeryd2003 Both of them had routines in their repertoires that were fast, intricate, precise, etc. They didn't need to prove it with every single dance. Dancers will always have slower routines too, for variety if nothing else. And slower routines might seem simpler, but they come with their own challenges (but good dancers will make them seem effortless).

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Does anyone know why they only ever made the one movie together? They are certainly well-matched talent-wise. Got nothing against Ginger Rogers but I would have loved to see these two in other productions.

  • Has better perfection in couples dance ever been achieved by anyone other than these two? I can't imagine

  • Breathtaking video showcasing breathtaking talent! Many thanks for sharing this treasure.

  • she looks like princess Leia

  • Fantastic dancers!!!

  • Fantastic !! The music, the dancing, the lavish set. Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell were superb.

  • it is better in black and white

  • This was the first $million musical ever. Huge mirrors in background were made by MGM because nobody else would make them. Floors were made on the spot and Ellie and Fred were not allowed to dance on them until the camera rolled. They did not want them to get dirty. Production of this epic was planned months in advance. It is the best ever between a man and woman. Fred met his match dancing with Ellie. She did things that were super human.,maybe the greatest female athlete ever.

  • The masked singer in this part "Douglas McPhail" was The a singer in the movie"Babes in Arms"?

  • Will they ever make this movie in color?

  • Only if there is a high enough demand for it to be in color. The technology is certainly available today. I, for one, would like to see this movie in color but I would not hold my breath to see it happen. ;-)

  • @willobekid In my opinion, this finale wouldn’t look well in color. Most of it is spectacular because of the difference between dark an light, between the dark floor and the white reflections of the dancers. They don't even wear colored clothes.

  • this was the best interpretation of this sensual romantic song

  • The set cost something like $120,000 and wasn't actually mirrors but polished black glass. Some (or all) of the taps may have been dubbed in later by Astaire, as glass doesn't normally like being hammered by steel heel taps; this does not, however, detract in any way from the superb quality of their dancing.

  • They spent more money on this set while being the largest ever used. Nobody would make the mirrows for them. They found a way to do it themselves. Fred said I danced with 29 partners in the movies and was ok with 28 of them but Elly danced in a class by herself male or female. To bring up dancing with the stars and comparing them with this is like comparing a high school base ball player with Babe Ruth. It was the golden age of dancing . Fred was king and Ellie is called the queen of tap.

  • Thank you for posting, Fred and Eleanor in my opinion is a lot better than dancing with the

    stars. WOW!

  • Yes! I agree. Their dancing is timeless!!! :-)

  • Unfortunately, it seems to be getting stuck. Can it be resent?

  • I'll try again. If it still get stuck, then you can still watch it on my channel (aw720's channel) on You Tube.

  • Thanks for getting this in high quality. I think the 2nd part is already up, but not this one. Are you going to put up the 3rd part, where they're together with George Murphy? Can you believe that they spend 2 weeks rehearsing just the arm movements? These people were crazy.

  • The 3rd part with George Murphy is the last scene of the movie called "I've Got My Eyes On You" and is not part of "Begin The Beguine". This scene is very short and not as memorable or classical as the others so I don't plan on posting it (yet).

  • You're absolutely right. The last part is to "I've got my eyes on you". I guess I just lump them together because they come one after the other in the movie. I'm sorry that you won't be posting it. While it is not as technically impressive as the other segments, it has a lot of humor. Astaire, Powell and Murphy are so delightful to watch when they are teasing each other and teasing the audience. Of course, I have the DVD-but it would be nice to share with those who don't.

  • Delightful in high quality; thanks!
