Great video, not the single best, because your essentials are the single best. When you talk about the inside foot tipping, would you give a bit more detail on what the femur is doing. Because tipping is a lateral movement but the femur rotates more than move laterally.
well presented and great skiing Harold. I agree to stay flexed through the transition but as the athlete changes direction(edge change) above the fall line, outside leg must gradually extend to maintain early pressure. I see you doing this superbly in your GS demo when there is more speed. Remaining flexed too long will result in jamming due to lack of pressure control. I see this a bit in the short turns. Bruce Eaves would say, "I don't want to see any snow spray below the fall line"
Your video example of GS was just what I was looking for. I've been too slow in the transition phase as I was 'extending away from the snow' just like you said. I've also been struggling a bit with my ability to get the ski on edge quickly which I believe is caused by the fact that I've been engaging my outside edge before tipping the inside foot... which means I am trying to tip the ski while it is engaged.....too slow!
@skiwhh thank you very much Harald!! I'm an agressive big carving turn skier, I have been practicing the techniques suggested here, and has made my turns feel amazing!
Ordered the new DVD and still waiting for it to ship ...
I especially like the 2nd half of this video (which seems to be a drill?). I never knew a wide stance can look so elegant!!! Is this drill described in the DVD? What's special about it (e.g., weight distribution between two feet)? Thanks!
In my opinion this video is the single best skiing instructional video on Youtube. Not like 99% of the other crap out there. Just those 2 things: eliminating the up move and tipping the skis on edge instead of twisting has improved my skiing beyond measure. Like on the video, I can now carve on the flats and cat walks where everybody else is skidding and scraping.
Hi, I've seen all of your videos and they are really good. I watched them last year while I was on a ski trip to refine my technique. I just bought your Performance Free Skiing DVD. It's excellent; can't wait to put it to practice on the slopes. Please keep them coming.
This is becoming one of my favorite videos. I skied in Harald's tracks (or at least attempted to) at a camp a few years ago. It was incredible to see how much he commits to the turn. It's one of those things: "You've got to see it to believe it!" This video from 1:30 to 2:30 refreshes my memory. Great stuff... - Thanx. - Art
Great stuff as always Harald. I especially appreciated the really great camera work that made it really easy to see the tipping. I also liked the fact that you explicitly pointed out where in the turn you were pressuring the ski.
Yet another fantastic demonstration of why Harald Harb and Harb Ski Systems are the leader in modern ski technique and instruction. -- Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Excellent videos, I just ordered the Free Skiing DVD a couple of days ago, hope it arrives before we hit Zermatt next week !

Excellent video Mr. Harb!! Following these tips my skiing started to improve rapidly.
I am happy I have never been taught traditional way so I don't have many bad habits to correct :)
I always performed turns by lifting inside ski but I was not refined and trained properly. Your PMTS really opened my eyes!!

With the drill 'Inside Foot Tipping' at 2.40, what is the weight distribution between L and R feet?

Very nice stuff, tipping the inside edge is not natural in any way, a truly learned move.
wall sits, wall sits and more wall sits I am so outta shape right now.

Clear and concise as usual.
You could charge like the proverbial wounded bull for this info. but i am thankful you don't.
The footage from the rear and the cat track tipping were my favourite sequences.
Thanks.

Thanks Gang, The photography is excellent, Diana and Chris are really good at what they can do with an inexpensive video camera.
