ASYLUM SEEKERS IN IRELAND CAUGHT 'ASYLUM SHOPPING'
243 Asylum seekers were transferred to other EU states after being caught 'asylum shopping' where they looked for refugee status in 2 or more countries.
40 failed asylum seekers were deported last night, a further 202 opted for help in returning home voluntarily rather than being removed.

That was a great thing they did that day. New York was New York that day. And I made a lot of money---the only time I ever bet money---off my Irish co-workers at the pub who were "betting with their heads". They were glad to fork it over. A great memory.
Oh Man! McGrath was injured and he played like that. Best defensive display i've ever seen. The clip doesnt show some of his back heel defensive flicks he did you Ireland that day. Ole' Villa fans will know what i'm talking about. What a fantastic man he is, and a true gent....
Thanks mate! But actually it turned out that we came closer to beatin you fellas 2-1 lol
Anyway, I grew up watchin players like Roberto Baggio. He was fuckin deadly, man! And I still have trouble believin how we beat Italy with him on the field that day!
we have been at the world cup on 3 occasion and havent disappointed i just cant wait for 2010 world cup even if ireland arent in it bt it wil be even better if ireland qualify for the fourth time and win it it would be the best thing that happend to ireland
The state is spending more than 91.5million euro a year to accommodate 7000 asylum seekers, due to 7yr backlog. There are 14,131 'leave to remain' applicants whom the Justice Dept. describes as having 'unfounded' claims for asylum.

Meanwhile our health, education systems are breaking down and Irish people are being told to emigrate.....goodbye Ireland, goodbye the celts.
Where in Dublin Central do Workers Party, Lab, SF, FG, FF, candidates live?
Are they living in areas with unproportional amounts of immigrants, failed asylum-seekers or those who have evaded deportation, or those immigrants with criminal histories in their own countries?
Do they live in mostly if not totally white, more upmarket residential areas
Well, they are for mass-immigration & expect YOU to live & deal with it.
Vote Pat Talbot youll know where you stand & he will stand with you.
ur optimism in all honour, but i don't think that we can beat the again .. we should focus on the other 3 games to remain in second spot . that would be enough.
yes but if you look at it the other way you were lucky to even draw. You got a late equaliser and even then were lucky to play against 10 men for the whole game. If you need an 85th minute equaliser to draw with ten men who were disadvantaged from the 3rd minute onwards, you dont deserve shit.
Good luck in the playoffs, youre so fucking shit youre gonna need it.
i love italy cause yere people are legends.we were the underdogs then and well be the underdogs again, but no matter who lose`s or wins we will celebrate together
Since you asked, the only other time Italy have been beaten over a 90-minute period in a World Cup, since Italia 90, was to Croatia in the group stage in 2002.
it's hard to believe it was 14 years ago! I can still remember the roar in the pub when houghton scored. unbelievable. I look forward to the day (sooner rather than later I hope) when we qualify for a finals again.
Me too, This was the game that really made get into football. It brings back great memories. I just wish we qualified for more tournaments the whole countrie is buzzing when we play in the world cup. We have'nt got to the Euros in 20 years!!!!!!!

yeah there is footage of this game on: 'Jack Charlton The Irish Years' DVD , you can get it off ebay im sure
Paul McGrath - better than all the rest. Not a great bloke but a fucking great footballer. Love to see how the over rated primadonnas Ferdinand (looks good because of Vidic) , Terry (looks good because of Carvalho) would handle looking after a rookie like Baab.
Funny I actually remember McGrath's 2 headers-1 tackle piece of brillaince better than the goal. I just remember the noise on my road when Houghton scored.

I was in a trailer tent in a Place called Normans bay near Eastbourne (England) watching on a portable TV... One of the best football occasions in my life.... "Houghton... GOAL, GOAL,GOAL,GOAL, GOAL" Magic!
keane should not have left the team but his point was accurate...the FAI wanted champagne on a beer budget....and the Irish mindset was "happy to be here" Keane was right...but should not have left his team
i'm english and it was a bit of a pain with england not being at the '94 world cup but my head nearly went through the ceiling when ex kop legend ray houghton scored that goal. thought the irish were cheated out of the following game against the mexicans.
dont put ridiculous comments like that up here, im sure you werent calling him a thug after he single-handedly beat holland in sept '01? Roy Keane is the greatest player to ever pull on the irish jersey. Paul McGrath was amazing in this game but how many times can we say Keane was amazing? too many.
Roy Keane would have been if he hadnt acted like a little prick, had a hissie fit in saipan cos he couldnt take the coaches authority, and fucked off home. drown the mutherfucker!!
I've never been so happy about a football match, wonderful feeling that defies description.
Them golden years would have continued if Keane hadn't gotten Mick sacked. Untouchable as a player but he had a bad attitude. How can you sack a manager that gets a team to the next round and only loses on penalties after a game that we should have won? Not Irish? Neither was Jacko but no-one worried then. Aaaaarrrrr... sorry, I'm suffering from Swiss related frustration.
Ahhh youth. Roy Keane barely scratches the top 4 with Brady, Giles and McGrath waaayyy ahead of the thug. In fact, I'd put mark Lawrenson ahead of him too.
And someone older than me may remember even better players than them lads.
Villa fan here and I love the Irish for many things but mostly for providing us with some of the best players we have had during my lifetime. Houghton, Staunton, Townsend and GOD himself Paul McGrath. The statement "Paul McGrath, a colossus would be an understatement" says it all really. This great man performed for us like this every game without fail. Thank you Ireland and thank you Paul.
I was in section 335 that day...What a week Rangers win the Stanley Cup that week for the first time in 54 years and then Ireland beats Italy...If I hadnt been a virgin at the time I could have died happy
come on ireland i was born in ireland but i live in italy i love ireland and italy when play ireland-italy my team is ireland but i love italy too and for scottish fan are geat too.i like scottish fan.
Id probabley say the greatest defensive display by a center back ever!.. baggio back then was one of the worlds best - if not the best..but he was made look amature by a 34year old with bad knees.. one of the best nights of my life!!
Excellent vid FT2006! I still mind hitting the bar in Aberdeen after work, US KO time had brilliant timing for post work mayhem and the place was bouncing. We never got there that year so you were the boys for us. Excellent memories!

McGrath is right up there with roy keane as our best ever player. pure class despite all his problems off the pitch. legend.
robbyryan1984 4 years ago
Ahhh youth. Roy Keane barely scratches the top 4 with Brady, Giles and McGrath waaayyy ahead of the thug. In fact, I'd put mark Lawrenson ahead of him too.
And someone older than me may remember even better players than them lads.

great celebration, i got good memories from the 94 world cup, much better than 2006.
bout ireland, nice win, but i knew they didn't have the class to go really far. the netherlands easily took care of them in the 2nd round.

Who won in '94? It was us, wasn't it!
You win in the cuisine, fashion and style stakes.

remember that day.you had baggio we had mcgrath.remember his three tackles.the greatest performance by an irishman ever
naromnaes 4 years ago
Id probabley say the greatest defensive display by a center back ever!.. baggio back then was one of the worlds best - if not the best..but he was made look amature by a 34year old with bad knees.. one of the best nights of my life!!

Golden years! This makes me so nostalgic for the good times. Oh how we long for the team of the early 90's

Excellent vid FT2006! I still mind hitting the bar in Aberdeen after work, US KO time had brilliant timing for post work mayhem and the place was bouncing. We never got there that year so you were the boys for us. Excellent memories!
