Why was the ancient able to rally Ryo from Talpa, but not the others? I think this defeat of Talpa had a lot more impact then the second time.

One of my favorite episodes. One funny thing is that white blaze is just staring at Ryo watching calmly while the kid next to him is over excited. Also it looks like white blaze has some eyeliner, one of the artists must have been tired.

@Warp2567 Actually this was supposed to be the last episode. All 5 Ronin's died and somehow Yulei would defeat Talpa and save the world. But the show was so popular in Japan they changed the ending up by giving Ryo the White Armor so they could extend the series.

Well the reason the ending is so full of holes is because the writers slapped this ending together at the last minute. Originally they were all supposed to die and be absorbed and then Yulei (sorry if its spelled wrong) was supposed to kill Talpa. However due to the shows popularity in Japan they decided to change the ending so they could extend the series.

What I don't get is that if Ryo kicked Talpa ass this episode, how Talpa was too strong for him in the final one.

Perhaps it's because Talpa had no idea how strong the white armor was when he first saw it, but after studying how it works during the Sun Devil episode, he figured out a way to counter it. It's what lots of bad guys do. They get the crap beaten out of them with a new power, manage to survive, study the new power, find a counter for it, totally beat up the good guy, then get beaten by an even NEWER POWER. (See Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh, Yu Yu Hakusho.... )

The most I figure is he probably had the neither spirits give him power off screen. One other possibility is that it's just a bit bad writing. I remember that when Saber Strike fight Ryo with the White Armor, even before Ryo's swords broke Saber Strike was still doing better then Talpa did, but we see he couldn't beat Talpa in the past.

I think the swords break because the armor of inferno keeps on getting stronger with every battle (like with other ronin armor). I wish that the other four got power-ups-heck, why not throw in the warlords, too? The show feels more like "Ryo and the Ronin Warriors" sometimes.

For everyone who doesn't know This cartoon first aired in the summer of 95. I lived in New Jersey and The network had the whole show. This was not the complete end of Talpa. After that Bad guy in season two Talpa comes back. It took every body (darkwarlords included) to destroy Talpa. The new armor ryo has can absorb all eight other armors

It is deus ex machina. In the original version all the ronins die and Yuli (yes, YULI) kills Talpa, but the series was so popular that the writers stopped production on episode 17 (where Talpa gets most of the armors) redid the last two episodes, and gave Ryo the super armor to easily defeat Talpa and be a focus for season 2.

There's a manga version in Japan, I think. They kept the original plot of that story (where Talpa kills everyone and Yuli saves the day)I really need to read that manga

So, the end of this episode reminds me of the end of the Wizard of Oz. When they're floating down in their little bubbles, and Ryo turns and looks at everyone, I have this image in my head of him saying "I just had the wildest dream.  And you were there, and you... and you..." (Random... but I thought it was funny.)
