if your happy where you and dont want a big swing change are you can just work on your short game and putting and hit alot of balls to help your consistency then you could lower your handicap that way. I must emphasise the dowswing is the important bit, Mattt Kuchar is as flat as a pancake going back, KJ choi swings over the top of his back swing plane as does jimenez lots of very good players, BUT they drop onto the correct plane and with the face square (or where they want it) at impact.
bcus your a 5 handicap. Another reason you swing over the top is because your back swing is quite flat and the club tracks to the inside very early on the backswing, the natural route to the ball is thus to loop over the top but if you go too far you come down on that out to in BAD plane. My advice if you wanted to get a lot better and spend some time on it would be to dramatically change your back swing to get it on the proper plane going back, so it is easier to find on the way back down.
the you would hook it (without compensating) bcus your brain is fighting the ball going left you swing "over the top" or from "out to in" and cut across the ball, you may think well why isnt the ball going even further left, this is because you work hard to square the face ie holding it open, and you don't release the club which is evident in your finish. This robs you of distance and consistency bcus ur not hitting the back of the ball, slice is weak and you rely on your timing which is obv gd
Hi Paul, there are some really good things about your swing, for example you obviously have v good rhythm and hand eye/ timing because you make alot of compensations in you swing to allow the ball to go straight, or more likely play with a manageable cut/slice. Basically you set up looks sound although i can't see your grip, which i would guess was a bit strong (ie a hook grip) the reason i guess this is cos at the top of your swing the club is very shut so if you swung down on the correct plane
@michaeltillcock You are right about the managble cut slice.. Few things.. 1 - I tend to have a different swing plane with Driver than every other club. In fact I have a different grip for the driver (interlocking) as well.. I have a standard Vardon for every other club. With the driver I do have a natural cut/slice but have managed to control it and can actually pull of a draw when required by altering my set up a little. With my irons.. I actually hit them nearly straight...
@Bigsmak i personally prefer the interlock grip as it get the hands working together better and feels stable, especially if you have small hands. The driver looks like it comes over the top more than an iron and has more slice but this mainly due to the relative lengths of the club and the different lofts. Irons have more loft so get more back spin than a driver, and the backspin makes your irons fly pretty much straight, a wedge much straighter than a 4 iron and a 4 iron strterthn driv
@michaeltillcock Part 2- nearly straightm, but that does meant that i switch between a fade and draw and not sure where it is going to go next. Problem is, I am always forcing the shape and it can lead to a big duck hook with the driver or a massive slice... I am enjoyable to watch as you never know what is going to happen next... lol... Thats what my forsomes partner says when he is being polite. - Again, thanks for the comments!
@Bigsmak as i said u have good hand eye so you canshape the ball by manipulating the clubface with your hand but this relies on timing so will be inconsistent especially when the shot is important to you. And i would imagine when you hit a "draw" you are actually hitting a "pull draw" but you aim right so it can be an effective shot. I doubt you would it a shot that starts right of your target flies high and drifts back to your target purely because your swing path is very much ott.

@GolfPassion95 You know.. Untill I took this video I hadn't noticed the foot rising off the ground.. I'll go and have a think about that... Maybe watch some pros on the TV and copy them...
over the top makes you steep and thus your divots v deep
