@jayden, I will agree the first one was better. The plot was better IMO, but I'm sorry, as good as the animation was in the first, the detail and vibrant colors in the animation of the second movie blows the first one away in that aspect. Steamboy and Macross plus are the only two other movies I've seen with sharper animation.
i was just checking out about this series before actually watching them. if the show is as beautiful as this trailer then im in for a ride!! great stylish visuals! anime at its best.
@brightspark495 The animation quality does not diminish hardly anywhere in this film and plus it's 2 hours long, but feels like an hour and half cuz it's so exciting.
@wiccafreak23 The first was just: Vampire Hunter D. It was my first 'anime', and I saw it in raw unsubtitled Japanese. Didn't understand a word of it at the time, but I was hooked. :)
@HeartedAngel27 try AnimeFreak.tv (or something like that, you can google it). It has tons of animes that are in English and Japanese, and some also have subtitles. The only bad thing is that you can only watch 72 minutes of a show at a time. You then have to wait another 72 minutes before it lets you watch it again. It uses MegaVideo so, yeah.
As I understand it came out in 2000. How ever even now 10 years later (OMG is it that much alrdy! ) the animation looks awesome and I couldn't help but feel that it can easily rival movies that came out this or last year.
@Alonewolfperson101 basically it boils down to this: D is a half breed (born from ahuman and vampire) and as such "banished" from both groups. he hunts vampires though as he sees them as evil and him having strong points from 2 races hes 1 of the few who can actually kill them.
in this movie hes after a human girl who has been "kidnapped" (turnes out later she wanted it to happen). on his way he meets various mythical ... creatures, notably from the balkans/greece/middle east.
Why thank you. :) I think the reason he gave me a B was because I didn't do the assignment (which was to make a commercial out of a bunch of really lame-o footage .. and not very much of it at that). The whole point of taking the course was to learn how to use Final Cut so I could make AMVs, so the trailer was a good compromise -- about as long as a commercial, and employing similar techniques. Also, the dialog wasn't well separated (lack of source tracks will do that, tho).
Man when are they going to make a thrid film? We've waited 9 years since Bloodlust and they havent even announced a third film. Would it kill them to throw their long-suffering fans a bone on this one?
I think you wouldve gotten an A if you would left out the text from critics and the red "Bloodlust" text at the beg. I like the music choice is great, its high NRG with some wicked imagary from a super cool movie. Cant go wong with Vamp D 1 or 2.
oh i didnt know ninja scroll was made by the same guys... i watch both this ninja scroll recently... they're gr8! and i watchd elfen lied b4 them. which is also gr8!
@SonOfTheMorning - fist of the north star(original) any ultimate hellsing, ninja scroll, spriggan, storm rider clash of evils, and a really cool ultra voilent live action movie(if you're interested) ''versus''
I love this film. It's passionately produced, imaginative, darkly magical, and engaging. The only aspect I clearly feel could have been stronger, is the final fight between D and Meier Link (the super villain Boss Vampire who abducts Charlotte). That fight came off as a bit abrupt compared to previous action, which was awesome. That said, the directing and action, main characters, art direction, atmosphere, score, and voice work is great. Overall this is one of the best animated films out there.
@jayden777 The original from 1985 was much better. This one was too much more family orientated in comparison. The monsters werent nearly as scary and their wasnt nearly as much violence and gore. Also the original had better animatiion.
@ benjamillion No, the 2 movies are individual stories with D as the constant, just as the novels are stories of their own. They do happen one after the other, but there is no telling how far in between the stories occur (months? yrs? decades? no one knows lol). ^_^
Good pick of footage and all, but gotta admit, the texts are misplaced. I would've completely blanked out the screen and put those in quickly between clips, and had used a more clear (and less boring font). Other then that, awesome job.
Agreed on the text. I was really frustrated with it, and the font choices were lacking. It was the default text rendering thing that Final Cut Pro 2 (old, 4-year-old program) came with. It was a rendering engine that was named after some guy, so it felt 3rd party to me, and it behaved that way, too. Today's Final Cut Studio (with Motion) does an AWESOME job with text. If I could actually upgrade my version, I would redo this project.
The loneliness aspect was kind of intended, for D himself is quite a bit of a loner, and the background footage supports this theme. I just wish there were more font choices, and a much better font rendering engine. It looks so blocky with the default stuff this program came with.
I gotta say that I thought the text scrolling by sideways was an odd choice. Aside from that and perhaps a mediocre font choice, this was very good - especially the dialog near the end! That was well-chosen.
Agreed on the font problems. The scroll direction of the text was meant to match the direction of the backdrop -- if I had more time and/or editing tools, I would have reversed the direction of the backdrop so the scrolling text was easier to read. But, you're probably right, fixed text (or very slightly moving) would have been better.
D is old first one from the 80s and Bloodlust is a lot newer. Only thing in common is D, the main character. I like the plot in the old one better but the animation in the new is amazing, plus it was directed by the same guy that did Ninja Scroll
I know why you got a B. The letters/titles at the beginning of the trailer obscured the background images. Once they're gone, the image suddenly brightens up. You should've adjusted the transparency level of the letters. The transitions of the images to the rythms of the gong beats are good, but then you hit a snag with the sample dialogues. The images are overdrawn & lazily edited. It slows the pace.
Text: I know; the letters were impossible to read because the renderer was terrible (as you can tell). To get them to be remotely legible, I had to darken the backdrop. With the tools I had at the time, it was the only option.
Dialogue: agreed. If I had the original recording, I could have pulled the dialogue track out, but all I had was the DVD, and the stereo track. If I had 5.1, I could have sampled from the center speaker track, and it would have been better.
Well... It happens. Anyway, check out this VHD music video made by a guy named cscentrlTV. It's fantastic! The guy did a fantastic job and you might get some pointers on his AMV. I'll post it here as a video response, if you don't mind? :)
Thanks! I think if I had to change it now, I'd have cleaned up the text, and made the Bloodlust splash screen less shakey (it was like that on the DVD tho :( )
Thanks! I wish I could have made the letters a lot clearer. Couldn't fathom why they were so fuzzy. My next video will be using Motion, which is exceptionally good at such stuff.
The original was one hell of a movie but don't let your love for an original cloud your vision. Bloodlust is a fucking awesome movie.

I've watched the movie, very promising, and I am definitely not regretting for my 1hr 41min.
The movie is fast-paced, complex, yet very intense and clear.
You couldn't find a single filler moment throughout the entire movie.
One of the best vampire genre anime, next to Hellsing in my opinion.
