doesn't Google know that we get charged for incoming calls on cell phones? Why do they make us use another phone number for forwarding calls....this should be an option for those of us that don't have any other phone but our cell phone. Now I am going to have yahoos calling my cell phone (Google makes you add a phone number even if its your cell number) and I will be charged by AT&T for an incoming calls. The whole point of using Google Voice is to not get charged by our cell phone carriers.

You speak about the third party GV apps as if they're inferior, when, in fact, Google's own GV app is by far inferior to both GV Mobile + and GV Connect. The ONLY thing about Google's own app that might recommend it is that it is free...but, for $2.99 each, either GV Connect or GV Mobile + are better buys for the features they offer. I prefer GV Mobile +, but I also have GV Connect and, really, they're both excellent. I have Google's own app,but I would ONLY use it if the other 2 apps vanished.

i don't have unlimited minutes, i have GV installed on my ipad. We know it calls my number first before it connects to whoever i want to call, that feature is stupid and my question to you, will it eat up my minutes the second i answer GV?

@seijisota Get a 403 area code number (Alberta) from FreePhoneLine.ca and set up Google Voice. It seems harder to get a 403 now (they have more 780's) but I managed to get one yesterday for my father-in-law.

@award360 no you cant, you have to dial out from the google voice app....... unless there is some app or hack that makes that possible.

@trinishipp You can send and receive texts for free with Google Voice, but you have to go to your Google Voice account on your PC and adjust some settings. Once you're logged into Google Voice on your pc, go to SETTINGS >VOICE SETTINGS>VOICEMAIL & TEXT. Under the section labled "Voicemail Notifications" UNCHECK the box for "Send a text (SMS) message to: (Your Name) Mobile."

Texts thus won't forward to your iPhone text app and you won't be charged for texts to and from Google Voice.

Better late than never. G should also offer free international calling as well until then here is a little trick for free international calls. check out callarc and select local access number. Call the access number from your GV. Make sure you register with your gv voice number). Enjoy free international calls.

you can use it to text through data, so no need to have a texting plan. for alot of people that is $20 saved a month

GV (website or the app) is not a VOIP program, you need to have an active line for GV to route the calll thru. so this means that if you wish to use GV on your cellphone, you need to have an active cell number line so that GV can route the call thru your cell. this means you can not cancel your cell service provider. if and when GV becomes VOIP, you can then cancel ur monthly cell service and use WIFI to use GV, but unitl then it requires an active line to route all calls
