the guy sits on a rudimentary drum part like a machine all the way up to his solo, before he just turns it loose.
the sad thing is that many many people will watch this and think, "yeah, so?"
folks, THIS is what drumming is all about. the super fast double bass stuff might make the girls and gearheads in the front row ooh and ahh, but it will NEVER create a connection between the music and the audience.
Steve is one of the most in demand session drummers in the world, and this is why. His sense of time is impeccible and his chops are as solid as they come. One of the very best there is.
You don't have to type same message for all videos of Ferrone.
And if I understand you correct, you're wrong. This is his style. Don't you know Ferrone?!. Listen to his records, he always play like this... And that's why we love him!...
LMAO! We'll see how energetic you are in your mid-fifties! ha ha ha! The energy is all in his hands anyway.
This is Steve's band Farm Fur @ NAMM last year. First song is James Brown's "Ain't It Funky Now" followed by Steve's solo, then The Brecker Brothers "Straphangin". That's Steve's bassist Tim Scott next to him, the band includes Alex Ligertwood (Santana) & Bernard Fowler (Stones) on vocals. Great show with Will Lee sitting in on "Pick Up the Pieces".
Steve Ferrone is a Legend . On e of the most musical drummers I´ve heard . Please listen Eric Clapton´s 24 Nights and hear his amazing snare drum sound and groove.
this is a true thing that happens! its not a chain letter! its kinda scary at first but it really works!! paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F4 and your crushes name will appear on the screen!!! its soo wierd!
Dude Steve Ferrone is still killing. This jam looks like it was kind of lame. If I were Ferrone I wouldn't be too thrilled either. But listen to that groove he goes into at 2:45. No question he is still the master.
I first remember hearing the drums on an early Chaka Khan album and have spent the last 30 years trying to emulate that groove.

Steve has a killer groove. Always had. Tasty is such an understatement. If I were half the musician that he was, I'd be completely satisfied.

Yea, you're right about it. I love his style, because he knows what to do in a band and at the stage. And I completely agree with Korn11.
