  • I uploaded the studio version, as i couldnt find it on youtube, it on my page

  • Great rendition ... I always thought "The River" would have made a spectacular single album ... too many fluff pieces ("I Got a Crush on You," for example) ... this one is a definite keeper ... thanks MsBrucejuice.

  • im sorry. i bought this album " the river" in the 80s and didnt like it. i hated it. is it me or did other people have the same experience. i bought it because i liked "born to run" released in 75 and rolling stone magazine gave it 5 stars. i really dont like many of these songs if any. is it me ............... i would like money back.

  • @figbat1 The River, Stolen Car and Independence Day are three of the best songs ever recorded! This is a five star album, the 'rockers' like Sherry Darling and Cadillac Ranch are terrific and Fade Away and The Price You Pay are vastly, vastly underrated. There is Drive All Night, Jackson Cage and one of the best pop songs ever written, Hungry Heart! It's one of Bruce's best albums, I think of all his records, this one showcases the great dichotomy in his work better than all the other's.

  • @johnny67448 .......greetings from the apple isle............maybe thats it.......you love "hungry heart".....i cant

f u c k i n g stand it.......i turn the radio as soon as i hear it........i was very disappointed with this record but consider "born to run" a classic...............i am very disappointed that rolling stone magazine told me that "the all man brothers at fillimore east", "sail away", "derek and the dominoes" and "london calling" were 5 star albums......but then i should

  • @johnny67448 ..........know better after they gave "jenny morris honey child" album 4 stars......not to mention the beasts of bourbon 4 stars as well. the moral of this story is do not trust rollings stone magazine's ratings of albums.

  • this is the most beautiful audio of this song I have EVER heard. Thank you for posting.

  • Hey Lady you post the best stuff!!!Thank you.......

  • @lauralie5 Thank YOU lauralie!!:-)

  • just lovely audio .....great great song...one of my favorites...I was lucky enough to hear him sing it in a concert....

  • @DCarleen Awesome song, I love it too, lucky you!:-)

  • I allways liked the alternative verse played live "some say forget the past, some say dont look back......" Just like the additional verse in Stolen car or Glory days that never made it to the recorded version.

  • I hope to someday see him do this song in concert.

  • That would be very nice:-)

  • @HighwaySong06 He played it towards the end of the tour that ended in November at Madisob Square Garden in NYC. I forget the date (nor was I there). You can look at "greasylake," where every concert he's played for the last 40+ years, including the setlists (if there's a tape available) is listed. It's a great site if you like Mr. Springsteen.

It's my second favorite song on the River. Wreck on the Highway just puts me into a state of shock. Confronting my own mortality does that.

  • @CPSJSMSUUMUGA That's right. And this 1981 performance was one of the last performances of this song in the last 28 years or so. He has/had a problem with this song personally. I guess because it's pretty depressing.

  • @RudyCasordapek I suspect it's hard to keep the attention of more casual fans for such a long, slow, obscure song, and that discourages him.

He didn't play Incident on 57th Street for 19 years, from 12/29/80 until 9/25/99. I have no idea why, but who else could have a song *that* great and leave it sitting on the shelf for what now turns out to be, thankfully, much of the *middle* of his career.

  • Nice performance !

  • Thanks Caroline
