  • So nice to hear this old classic song of the seventies. Natatandaan ko ang manga masayang nakalipas sa panahon nayon. San'ay, puedeng makabalik sa tiempo nayon. Thanks so much for posting this my friend.

  • I am an early 70's baby (Gen-X baby) and my parents are from the Depression/WW2 eras. I used to listen to my mother's American Graffiti LP all the time. I must have poured over that bi-fold album upon several occasions!

  • Brings back some very fond memories. Wish I could go back to those days.

  • This song was also done by The Mike Curb Congregation.

  • Love this oldie ~and~ the movie!!!

Posting this on my FB wall for this Labor Day Weekend!!! :)

  • This song was in the movie Summer Love, which was released in 1958....

  • Te conoci en el verano. Los Tempos y Bobby Sanders.

  • Love both versions!!!!

  • It was the best time of my life 1959

  • I bet this would have been a fun time to be a teenager. Better than the mid-80s, when I was a teen. We missed out on the first of new wave, and it would be a while before there was more interesting music.

  • I feel that both the Tempos and Happenings had great versions of this song. While the Happenings' version is more peppy, the Tempos' version seems to have more emotion to it and just seems to better capture the feelings of being apart from one's love.

  • I'm 17 and i have all rock and roll on my ipod. My friends hate it. I obviously need new friends :}

  • @GeeSThirteen Never give up what you love. Screw people who judge anything you like.... And as you said: you might just need new friends.... Keep the Music alive.

  • I loved this movie, I was only 9 years old, but I already loved cinema very much, I am sure they do not make movies like this nowadays.

  • to bad kids do not have songs like this to remember there high school days at least you can understand what they are singing not the noise they call music today maybe I am just old and out of date.still I prefer the muic of my youth

  • I'd like to see an American Graffiti Part III:

Laurie, Steve, and Curt are getting things together for their 50th HS reunion, when a phone call comes from a voice with a Swedish accent: "Steve, it's Toad!". Now if only John Milner could be there

  • Sorry, but I don't like this too-slow version.

  • Always reminds me of the end of the school year and not seeing a gf until the start of the new school year. A moment in time perfectly captured.

  • BULLCHIT! The pictures are from not from 1950's. Ron Howard was a little boy back then.

  • @RealMusicKing The pictures are from the movie American Graffiti, which depicts teenage life in the early 1960s, when this song would have been popular. Who cares if the photos themselves depict a movie that was released in the early 70s?

  • @Oldiesmann I care because I'm watching them. These pictures depict Bullchit and Bullchitism which is not American or Americanism. Hillbillies like you can't tell the difference between a hole in the ground and your own A--.

  • Went to college in the early 60s, had a girl who later married a lawyer. He was also a

colonel. Love this song. Sadly, it always makes me think of her. Have never told my wife about her.

  • @Garrison446 Well I'm sure someday when your wife ever comes in this channel, she will find out about her. :-) . So, till then, enjoy the song and your freedom. LOL.

  • Siobhon...love dad

  • My goodness... I didn't know this hit was from the 50s!! I knew it due to the 1967 recording by the Happenings... So thanks much for giving the chance of listening to the original one!!

  • Spero di vedervi in fidanzita Settembre!

  • This isn't the original. It sounds different. It sounds way off. Love this song, but would have liked this video better if it was the original. Very disappointing. Ruined a good song.

  • Did the tempos sing a song "dancing with my shadow"?

  • yep....miss her.....two kids and a divorce...miss her..

  • This was re-coreded by The Happening back in 1966 & I have yet to decide which version I like better as I never really took off on either version in the first place (sorry). I'd rather listen to Carole King singing "It Might As Well Rain Until September".

  • Current favorites.

  • Let's put pictures of our underpants on youtube, thereby putting Homeland Security TSA out of business.

  • Wow! Is thisreally getting over 200,000 views! That makes my day. Growing up, I first heard the Happinings later version (not knowing about the original) and loved it. Yet this original captures the true spirit of the song and is by far better. Someone just posted a 1964 version by Mike Clifford of Close to Cathy fame. It sounds great also.

  • a little different but still amazing!

  • Joanie LUUUUUUUUVS ChaChi.

  • hace muchos años vi la pelicula american graffiti, y la musica era muy buena

  • man this generation sucks! i wish i was born in the 50's.....great music, beautiful bettys, wonderful/beautiful cars.....man life was good in those times

  • fuck 2010! i wish i was born back in the 50's! damn and im 18!

  • @ummONE1 though i didn't come of age in the 50's, (was a lil kid), i have a great appreciation for the music, times and culture. I think it's so cool that you may have that appreciation as well. Check it out with popular 50's music and books.

  • American Grafiti...a movie that I'd watch over and over...life back then was easy and simple...

  • This is so sad. I remember every square inch of this movie. I was 15 when it came out and it changed everything.

  • Is Joh Milner still alive?

  • @fa0798 no, sadly he was killed in 1964 by a drunk driver!

  • @Eyedea818 must of been a mexican

  • @dmc081 no they actually make it home or get dui's lol

  • @dmc081 Just tellin' you I LOVE this comment.

  • Where was I in '62, ... ? I was figment in my dad's scrotum.. shall that suffice ?

  • found this song for my dad he remebers this from his youth (he was born) now im like in love with this song and im 15

  • The old songs is always better than this years , and ,more dedicated . I love 60 s to 80s songs LOVE IT ,

  • Omg I'm only a fetus and I love this song!

  • @MrSqiffy I'm still working on a previous life, 26 in that previous life, and I love this song. So there.

  • American Graffiti! great movie, great songs

  • kIDS GO BACK TO SCHOOL IN AUGUST THESE DAYS

  • CLASSIC!

First time I heard this version.

  • Never knew it was the original record. Always thought the Happenings were the first. Thank you You Tube people for teaching me and broadening my horizont.

  • ahh, what a refreshing break from todays' noise! Grew up in the 60's! This was MUSIC!

  • this is one of my favorite favorite oldies makes you feel so good inside our youth needs more of this these days

  • I was a little kid when this song was out but somehow I could feel his anxiety - used to make me cry, sometimes.

  • Listening to this wonderful song all summer long since I'm on vacation till september. I hope to see my love In september but I'm afraid i will loose him to a summer love :(

  • I recall when this was hit, Back in 1959, I was ten yrs old then. Great Song!

  • 1000000000+++++++

  • wow ! it took me a bit, but i finally remembered this version. well done on the upload and thanks.

  • Whie The Happenings struck gold with their "up-tempo" (pun-pun) version in 1966, my heart and preference goes with this. Thanks

  • The five people who disliked this should get a life. To the people who voted up- You're Tasteful! And thank-you AK47bandit for posting this.

  • I totally, totally love this song...

  • OMG-the song that reminds me of my boyfriend going away to boot camp-came back and proposed.......................Although I remember this song in the late 70's??

  • Wow this is exactly what im going through right now. She's going away for the summer and i dont know if her feelings for me are gonna last.

  • LEON'S!

  • One of the best performances of the late 50's, and one of the very best cha cha's ever!

  • i love the tone of voice from 1:06

  • most people say "nothing happen in this movie" but that is the real magic....like our lifes, but very good old moments to remember in this movie

  • I saw the nerd guy recently in a tv show....he looks like a very NERD now...hohoho

  • i'm 17 and i like this soundtrack

  • In 62 I was in HS.

  • @eagle45147 HS?

  • @thebirdisblue High School:)

  • nice song of the happening, and very good times.

  • oh yeah the happenings

  • love this version best. more of a love song.

  • These guys were from and /or met in college in Pittsburgh PA! One of my all time faves.

  • Perfect song for Conan O'Brian.

  • first heard in vietnam 1968 . was du to go home then..oh, what memories.T

  • very nice and thanks for posting. I'm having a pleasant afternoon listening to 1950s music. Good tunes and you can hear all the words clear, unlike todays music.

  • added this to my 1959 playlist, one of 111 music playlists waiting to take you back to the music and hits of any past year. Atrip in time with just your mouse . . . .

  • This the original version is WAYYY better than the "Bad Variety Show" version of The Happenings....in which their version isnt "happening" for me.

  • Great!

  • The original.

And this is the first time I've heard it! I thought this song came out when I was about 7 (+/-). With all the oldies played in the last 20+ years I'm shocked that this original version hasn't had air time (when I've been listening).

  • ill take the Happenings version anytime. sadly this is ne of the few times a remake is far better the original.. im ovin onto the the happenings version to leave a more positive upbeat appraisel. sorry folks. i recall this in 59 , it was fine but the happenings gave it a spark a life this song couldnt. nice try tho for 59. TOMK the doo wop rocknroll historian speaks the truth sad but so true.

  • No No No. The Tempos! Don't get me wrong. I like the Happenings version. The Tempos version has more soul and personallity.

  • Love that Pearl White '58 Impala Coupe. wonder if he had a 348 in it?

  • And guess what? It's SEPTEMBER!

  • No its not

  • Not October either :p~~

  • Nope :)

  • This version is horrible

  • This centers around "American Grafitti," but people who were actually teen-agers back then wouldn't refer to this movie (Ron Howard and I are the same age and we were little kids then); those who were teen-agers back then would identify with "Dobie Gillis" or "Ozzie and Harriet." Make a joke about "Happy Days"' "The Fonz" and they might think "Oh yeah, period piece." But joke about Maynard G. Krebs' reaction to work ("!!!WORK!!!") and they'll laugh and have a genuine feeling of nostalgia.

  • I was 17 in 1962. I relate better to the things in A Graffiti than in the rest of the stuff combined. This

thing was like a compilation of real life expereinces... the other stuff is just Hollywood

  • I was minus 2 in 1962. Don't ask me why I told you that because I don't know.

  • Will I see you in October?

  • More like "See you in October..."

    Is it still possible?

  • ugggggggg so stupid

  • Nice tune, especially for the final day of school. Yes, September is almost upon us, including Labor Day, Patriot Day and the Last Night of the Proms. Thanks for uploading!

  • I saw the movie "American graffiti" as late as in -74. Bought the album asap. This song is on of my very favorites. Has a soothing feeling about it. And leaving school in May/June to return in September always has its supprises. Great song!

  • One of my favorite songs. I love this original version by The Tempos. 1959, the year I was born. Good stuff. Thanks for posting this song.

  • I can see The Four Lads singing this version.

  • Thanks so much. This is the version that I remember. I never heard it after other ones came out.

  • I'm a September native (9/26), and I like both versions of this song. When it comes to "which is better", I give a slight nod to The Tempos. Their unhurried approach gives the song a more romantic feel, and though the singing is a bit uneven, it gets better as the song progresses. And I've always thought that the ending of the song (starting at 2:00) sounds almost other-worldly .... and very effective. The Happenings' version is slick, it's well-executed ... but it's not especially romantic.

  • Some of lived through this time and actually came back from Vietnam through the grace of God. If you liked this try the Tymes "So much in Love" other older artist. Nothing compares to the beauty of oldies like this.

Something also can be said for Frankie Laine, Billy Eckstine ,Johnny Ray, Four Preps, Four Lads, Diamonds, and MANY More, thanks for posting.

  • I'm 60 yrs old, and my 5 y/o grandson was singing "The Angels Listened In" while listening in my car. I play a lot of oldies, but had no idea that he could sing, let alone in tune and on tempo. He even sang his own backup.. you know, The Angels listened in, listened in...I hope he keeps it up. It's my reward for constantly playing and singing music from that era.

  • Well done for playing such beautiful music to the younger generation. I always think beautiful music is one of the things that has a long-lasting positive on a child's mind and his relationship with his family and other people. You're doing the right thing!!! A child won't grow up appreciating beauty and goodness if all he listens to was ear-splitting trash with swear words.

  • Thank you so much for the compliment. I've sung to all my grandchildren when they were infants to make them sleep. That's the music I grew up to and the most I'll remember.

  • yes keep doing the same thing so they don't learn any of this new stupid music..I am right behind ya at 57

  • Nice clip. Yesterday I crooned the opening to a college age gal that works for me during the school year, is departing away to get married over the summer, she didn't recognize it. Some of us must be Old Pharts

  • The Happenings had a great version of "See You in September, but somehow I find the Tempo's version of this song to be more romantic than any of the remakes including the Happening's version.

  • I only knew the version by The Happenings and thought it was original. Thanks for posting.

  • The Tempos were a vocal group from Cannonsburg PA -- also home town to singers Perry Como and Bobby Vinton. This is the '59 original, redone faster in '66 by the Happenings.

  • P.S. I still wished by the time I grew up everything was still like this!

I felt ( still do ) I got TOTALLY BURNED!!

  • me 2!!!! :-( i should of been born in 1946 or so! i trully feel i got SCREWED outta that deal! ah well! i would be older than my parents if thats the case! :-) ah well! <3

  • @JustaSideOrderOfLove You would have been drafted into Vietnam if you were.

  • @PAVN If I Was A Guy? I Would Of Been A Draft Dodger! And High Tailed It To Canada! :-)

  • @JustaSideOrderOfLove I know right

  • @JustaSideOrderOfLove I feel the exact same way! It's a darn shame :( I hate the 200's :(

  • @Laylagirrl 2000's I meant.

  • Thanks to my mom I know all these songs from this era!

And my kids love all the songs from my era more than their own!!??!!

    hee hee

  • Mee too! My mom played all these songs over and over. I am well versed in HER music!

  • Priceless memories!

    Thanks for posting.

  • Desert Shield/Desert Storm

    1990-1991

I had a walkman and three cassette tapes.

One was the soundtrack to American Graffiti.

I may be one of the few people around where 50's/60's music reminds them of war in Iraq!!

  • Great song, and from the greatest decade America has ever known!!

..and to this day, I still 'love' Cindy Williams

  • ..... and for me this song was when I was in GRADE nine

  • Awesome!!

  • meu pai sempre me falou eles...são fantásticos, que vocais....

  • Oh does this song bring back memories, the groups in the 40's, 50's and 60's were great, so many wonderful songs came from that time, thanks for this upload.

  • They sound all offkey. Give me The Happenings version any time!

  • I agree. Mike Curb Congregation knocked this one outa the park, but it's not on here.

  • littlebrat, it's called harmony, they aren't off key, if you've never sung in a choir or group you would probably think they are off key but they aren't.

  • My music teacher was in the happenings! benie laporta!

  • sorry, the happenings did it better.

  • Gotta love it...I was born in September 1959!

  • Our school councelor sang this to us when we was greaduating from 8th grade right before summer started :)

    Thanks Mr. Warren :)

  • ES UNA HERMOSA MELODIA DE FINALES DE LOS AÑOS 50's, EN VERDAD FELICITO A QUIEN HAYA SUBIDO ESTE VIDEO.

I LIKE ME, IT'S BEATIFUL TO REMEMBER.

  • I grew up with the Happenings too, but, discovering the original version...wow. Thanks. Five stars.

  • 15,840 views, I bet 840 of them were me. Just can't get enough of this song.

  • great song, great movie, great times, thanks for this

  • Ilike this version. I also like Shelley Fabares' version.

  • dang. alot of '60s hits were cover songs.

  • This is really nice.

  • Cool American Graffiti imagery, but like hotgoalie and dbookin, I'll take the version from the "Paterson paisanos & company" over this version any day!

  • Very vanilla? Perhaps. But there is nothing wrong with a little vanilla now and then.

  • I also prefer The Happenings' version. That one is so much more upbeat.

  • I like the Happenings version much better

    This version is very vanilla

  • There was the same song by July Bud, very good too, I don't see it....

  • A top-notch 1959 recording by a Pittsburgh quartet, and the song reached No. 23. Seven years later, The Happenings brought the same song (in a more up-tempo style) as high as No. 3, and the latter version is probably more-remembered. But personally, I much prefer The Tempos' rendition.

  • Great song. Haven't heard this since I got rid of my vinyl LPs.

  • Amazing version I didn't know yet. the bolero-esque groove is a must.

    Thank you very much indeed

  • Es una versión impecable, muy romantica, para disfrutar. GRACIAS por incluirla.

    Thanks... Is the best
