gah, why didn't they use this one? it could've been one of the coolest themes in the whole series. i even liked the trumpets! i think it was unapproved because the instruments were too loud over the chanting. but that could've easily been lowered! it was a very good theme song, really fit well with the theme of Nicaragua (colonial spain) and it was a pity they didn't use it

@TheAntisen The music does not need to sound tribal for S21 because this season's theme focused on the Renaissance period. The premise for S21 was a revival of the conquistador period, not the recreation of an ancient society. Moreover, several seasons clearly shifted away from the tribal thing in the past: S5 focused on traditional Thailand, S7 on pirates, S10 on WW2, S15 on medieval China... Landau's intro was perfect for S21.

It's definitely much better and more pleasant to the ear than trivial Borneo theme which they put. And there is some echoes of Russian Survivor-5 (Last Hero-5) theme as well. And I LIKE it!!!

Burnett is an idiot. If they were gonna re-use the original for nostalgia's sake, they should have done it for HvV, not Nicaragua. Especially considering the awesome job Landau did with this. I guess they'll probably use this for S22 though.

The focus of survivor is 16-20 people recreating an ancient society, and adapting it for TV. This intro is far too modern for Survivor.

Moreover, several seasons clearly shifted away from the whole ancient society thing in the past: S5 focused on traditional Thailand, S7 focused on pirates, S10 on WW2, S13 on explorers and sailors, S15 on medieval China... Landau's intro was perfect for S21.

I agree with what most people are saying. It's a little much. I really like it, but it doesn't say "Survivor" to me aside from the use of the original melody. Still, I wish they had just "toned it down," as lowfab4 said, rather than reusing Borneo's theme. Hopefully, next season will have a unique theme.

I like how you edit the original "unapproved" and make it sync throughout the intro. You covered the angles that I was looking for, like the timing of the shots and the song. :D

Musically speaking, I now understand why Russ Landau did not approve of this theme. Of course, the intro shots were prob also different than the one used. But the intro shots now is so boring so I'm still livid. >:-(

This one is string/flute-based, just like Guatemala's unused theme! Maybe Landau just couldn't make an awesome-enough intro with strings/flutes? I wished they used this though, but I guess I will have to start calling this the official one. Thank you for sharing this!!! ^_^
