That's guy is stupid your pull twice on the door handle for safety. & don't pull them to hard like he did or your gonna break it & then you really wouldn't be able to get out.
the reason you pull twice on bmw's is a safety feature so if u have a little kid they pull it once and the open door warning illuminates on your dash. pretty useful and easy to get use to after you have owned bmw's for a while
This is a good review. This is balanced and did actually pointed out the jerky pickup speed.
Many reviews of this car emphases how much better the 2009 model is than the 2003 7-Series, but failed to address how the i-Drive is still difficult to use, and the door position is indeed odd.
Many European cars require two pulls of the latch to open a locked door. It's nothing new. Volvo has been doing this for years. You mention it like it's a bad thing. It's more efficient than pushing the unlock then open the door. When you get used to it you prefer it.
Obviously this guy has never drive BMW before or he has forgotten that when the driver side door is locked, you need to pull the door handle twice to unlock. My 2005 BMW 250i works the same way. Glad mine doesn't have the complicated I-drive system. Though I wish it has i-pod connection. Maybe in a few years I can get a new 330i.
The guy in the vid talked about the way it took off, I am sure it has to do with with impressive torque at only 1800 RPM's. He mentioned the door handles pulling them twice, my 2003 540i sport did the samething, nothing new. I love the power and am torn between the new 750li and the 2006 M5. WHY you ask, because my wife needs 4 doors and an auto tranny for our family of 5. When I drive I want a fast sports car, so with those 2 cars you have the best of both worlds.
Prefer everything about the S Class... its styling, its performance and the simplicity of its controls. BMW has gone overboard with the tech gadgets. And it's not much to look at either.
Once you get used to it and are driving it all the time you will come to appreiciate all the gadgets. With the 7 series you shouldn't ever have to say, " i wish my car did this or had that"
i think this car is really missing the point. this car is a limousine, people buying a car like this want to isolate themselves from the road, not become one with it.
and i'm sorry, but if you wanted a very large performance sedan from bmw, why would you buy this over an m5? it makes no sense to me.
give me an s-class for comfort or a quattroporte for fun anyday, but the 7 series is pointless.
Because the 7 series has way more room and comfort for your passangers, and yeah the benz is softer but bmw has always made stiffer cars, on the autobahn you will apperciate the handling of a 7 series sweeping around corners at 200km/h. The Quattroporte's drivetrain is ferrari and probly costs allot more to service. Also the 760li twin turbo v12 with an 8 speed that's coming should be as quik as an m5 but way smoother.
anyway, the only thing really uncomfortable about the m5 is the gearbox, and an 8 speed is going to be worse. look at the is-f if you don't believe me.
Your not making sense saying an m5 is comfortable but a 750 isn't. And your saying theres no point of having a 7 series, well there is..... There are lots of people that want a very big sedan and most of your options drive like a big boat, some people still want a sporty edge and the 7 series is perfect for that. Why do you think benz has to offer 2 AMG versions of the s class, because there is a market for it.
not necessarily. put the gearbox in its softest setting and put the suspension in comfort, and you'd be hard-pressed to tell it from a 520d. and like i said, limousine buyers are not looking for razor-edged performance. if you want a large bimmer with performance, you'd get an m5.
or, if like you say, it's too much of a knife-edged racer, then you'd buy the maserati quattroporte. but the bee-em is sort of a pointless car.
all of the world's car reviewers (save the americans of course... although steve hammes seems to agree with me on this) have agreed with me on this statement.
and we'll let the sales figures tell the story. where i live (suburban new jersey) is very affluent, and you see bentley continentals and masa quattroportes and merc s-classes all the time, yet in the time the bimmer has been on sale (about 8 months or so) i've only seen it one time.
but here's the thing, why buy a car as big as this if you want to drive it yourself anyway? if you want to drive yourself, wouldn't nimbleness be your priority? and anyway, i've heard countless reviewers say that the merc s-class does it's job way better than the 7 series.
the 7 series is just too sporting, and i'm sorry, but this is not the priority in a big limousine.
like i said, if you wanted a big sporty sedan, you'd get the m5.
You buy a car that big so you and your passangers can have plenty of room and safety. M5 isn't big it's a midsize and your rear passangers would be cramped. Some people want all the luxury and size but still want it to perform like a smaller car becuase they are driving it themselves. The s class is soft and numb like a lexus ls or cadillac dts, the 7 is a nice alternative. I think the 7 is more for 20-45 year olds needing the size and the soft s class for 45+ year olds.

i used to think like you but since 2002 i think mb has a step behind...
@stevehammes
i dont think it looks like the lexus ls, if you do remember, bmw has always done the l shaped tail lights, way before the ls

I can see your point and agree some of the technology is very good. I like the looks of the just-released Alpina 7. That's hot.

but you don't get my point, if you want comfort you'd get the s-class. this bm isn't very comfortable with it's hard suspension and jerky throttle.
