Four speed Four Barrel Dual exhaust = 4-4-2 (originally this is what it stood for until 1965)
The 64's had all four speeds. Then they changed in 65 when the engine size was increased to a 400 cu. inch (from a 330 cu in 1964) The 4 now stands for 400.
400 cu = 4 with 4 barrel carb + 2 exhaust equals 4-4-2
i got a 67 olds 442 sitting in the garage of one of the farm houses it was last registered in 2000 im 17 and going to school for automotive mechanics and this beautiful car has been sitting for so long it pain me to see it sitting for so long any ideas what i should tackle first in tuning it up?
@TheRedsox885 Change all fluids hoses belts including the gas for starters. Gas unless a stabilizer was added really is only good for 9 months--I might be off a little on that but to be safe I would empty the tank and all fuel lines or put new ones just to be safe.
@TheRedsox885 The 67 442 restored as new can bring in $50k. If auctioned out you never know what one will bring. You are talking with a guy who has more knowledge than the average guy but am in no way an expert. I'm curious on the condition of the car overall. Rust issues etc. Also curious why you want to sell it. Sounds like a car you can drive as you restore it. If you do a little at a time eventually you will have a fine piece of machinery. Any photos?
@365degrees from what ive looked over on it its got no rust i think t will be mostly tires hoses belts and fluids i hope to drive it as i work on it and i plan to keep it but its not my car its my dads and i don't know if he would let me behind the wheel of a car of that power and value
@TheRedsox885 Hopefully one day it will be yours if your dad plans to keep it. I will tell you this and take it to heart. Enjoy every moment you can with your dad cause I know that when they are no longer with us it is an adjustment that takes time, one that is not ever welcome. Make as many memories as you can and if you ever have a disagreement or argue, let it go fast and realize it's part of life for all of us to argue at some point. Also play your cards right and you can buy your own 1day
@TheRedsox885 Well sounds to me there is something there to build on. Don't ever try to force anything, things will change when you are older. Sounds to me he does care or you wouldn'y have any relationship a all. Things change over time. Some people-mostly men have a strange way of showing their feelings. Just do good and be a good young man, some one to be proud of. I'm telling you that for yourself and your own good, the rest will fall into place.
@TheRedsox885 LOL-No you didn't mention you are 17 but believe me when I tell you that most of us who at least had some communication with our dads, like you said he talks to you about work, well when you get older your relationship will get better too with your dad. I hope so....you're young but remember it takes 2 for things to work out. Stick with your automotive schooling you mentioned, you do it for you and make others proud of you.
What letter is on the corner of the head? Casting code on block next to oil fill tube? Intake manifold/air cleaner is aftermarket... What are you asking?
