  • 1500 is a full engine rebuild for me down here in South Africa... lol

  • I just buy a new filter every time instead of cleaning it and this guy uses way to much oil haha

  • Comment removed

  • take your filter dip it in some gas and squeeze the oil out. wash the filter in soapy water to wash the gas and leftover dirt out and then rinse the filter in clean water. and 1500 isnt far off on a 4 stroke.

  • nice vid.

who cares if it is $1500? maybe it was for him, you all dont know that

  • 1500 top end? more like 100 you gota love 2 strokes and i wash mine in parafin then warm soapy water then use like a spray bottle to coat the filter works a treat and you use like hardly any oil per filter

  • LOL 1500 TOP END?? IS UR PISTON AND OTHER PARTS MADE OF PURE SILVER?

  • can i use motor oil when oiling the airfilter?

  • @mxrcmad yeh its fine thats what your supposed to do

  • haha $1500 that made me laugh.

  • Hey @marklewisonline, i have an 07 suzuki rm-z 450 when i do an oil change i ride for maybe half an hour and then check the oil and i tip the bike over a little to see if there is any but there isn't. Ive asked some friends and they said to first check the air filter cuz if its dirty it will suck oil and they said once i replace it or clean it if there is no change than its probably fried piston rings.. thoughts??

  • @Blubbershnikle yur friends are stupid lol, the reason why you cant see any oil is because its been cycled around the engine, lubricating parts, clutch, piston, cylinder etc, so of course there wont be much oil because its busy lubricating other parts!

  • Thanks for the video

  • what about gasoline

  • Always clean the filter with fuel and wash out in hot soapy water. Dry the filter out some water in the filter never a problem, but never dry the filter in the sun on the clothes line!! Then use a good foam filter oil when dry, the spray on Motul one is recomended. This guys method is worth $1500 bucks each filter service, someones floggin their log. lol

  • Thank mate!

  • Does kandn air filter ail work to, its in an arisol container

  • i have an xr , so mine is on theside

  • Good video with good detail! But were not you a little picky? How much oil filter you Halden's just a waste. Other then that great video mate :P

  • 1500$ top end? I suggest you find a new shop.

  • @CaseIH232 Have you ever rebuild a bike ?

My crf250 from 07's head was cracked and i had to order a new one.

When ordering from the factory itself without taxes it was 1200 euro's new wich is about 900-1000 dollars. + All the labour hours can easly run up to 1500$ and if you have bad luck your valves and crank shaft are also busted wich will add even more to the 1500 ...

  • I jus got my top end done. Cost me &440 for the parts and a carton of piss haha

  • I've been told to smear vasseline around the filter, but I'm guessing that would decrease airflow?

  • 1500$? Maybe on a four stroke, but on a two stroke anyone can rebuild it, if they can't you either (A) Watch a video, or (B) Take it to a mechanic. (A good 200$)

  • Thanks mate:)

  • thanks waht degreaser did u use

  • @MrBoxbreaker55 just get a spray can of chain cleaner, it works great

  • Way too much oil my friend, that would cause a big DECREASE in horsepower...Your supposed to pour about 1/4 cup into a big baggie and mush it around until covered, the squeeze out excess. It should not be drenched like yours is. This video could be very misleading to people. Having so much oil in the filter like your doing just decreases airflow to the engine...

  • WOW, got enough oil on the filter!

  • do you want oil on the inside of the filter aswell???????

  • hey man iv got a 1978 rm125 perfect condition but it has oil on the motor. i dont know how it got on their but i cant seem to get it to come off. u know how to get the oil off the motor????

  • @stvna8040 ya I use gas and it eats everything off like immediately lol

  • @thomas9781 Just remember, the reason you don't use gas is because it eats away at the filter and the seams. If you replace your filter often then using gas is not so bad, but if you use it all the time it will weaken the foam and allow more dirt through.

  • @thomas9781 Yeah, including your air filter! Moron.

  • can you use kerosene as degreaser? i thought you couldn't use flamable products to clean it

  • just stop been cheap n buy pre oiled filter

  • I normally just stick my pressure washer in there and give it a good old spray seems to work fine.

  • @ImPLaINLaZY1 whats the point in that? dirts just gonna get straight back in unless u oil it

  • @chatpiecewrstbestman i was joking bro

  • You can't use gas because it breaks down the foam, however, you can use desil because it is not as rough on the foam, and remember not to over oil it or it will not breath as well.

  • wtf ive never seen some1 clean the air filter like this

  • @swifferkillsdogs

this is how its supposed to be done

  • Can som1 tell me how often you should do this?

  • @bullahair u should clean ur air filter every time its real dusty or when the filter gets muddy

  • thats a good vid cos i was about to put regular oil on mine...

  • 1500???? what does this guy have to get his top end shipped to some random island in the carribean?

  • I head of a lot of people using Twin air air filter do they get a lot better performace over the stock one?

  • Get a Loud Mouth and save yourself a motor rebuild, minus wasted time between changes. pull the filter and put another on. No cage or clean up and it has a seal. The stock set up is stone age.

  • im glad i watched this before i attempt my first cleaning

  • oh yea it can be up to that on a four stroke but a two stroke its only like 350 topsor maybe a little more

  • its not 1500 to rebuild a top end try like 200 bucks or 300 tops..

  • it can be over 1500 on 4 strokes

  • I rebuilt my 4 stroke top end for $450.

  • @Urlfan333 Evidently not a whole top end as I know from experience that parts alone for a KX-450F are about 1300$ if you get someone to do it for you +1000.

I use kerosene to clean my filters. Although I get lazy and will use a filter for about 2-3 rides, it pays to have more than one filter also, or else it feels like your ALWAYS cleaning the buggers

  • @TheStef263 My 04 kx250f Full top end rebuild actually only costed the $450...

I do get a 20% discount from the shop I buy parts from, but I also do all the work myself. But yes, I replaced all rings, gaskets, piston, seats, you name it around the $450 margin.

  • @Urlfan333 Which Country do you live in?

I am in Australia, and I can tell you the cost for genuine 2008 KX450F Parts from a local dealer here are 1000-1300$ and thats not including valves or seats.

Labour is another 1000$ This is for all bearings, pins, piston, rings, gaskets etc

  • mine cost 500 dollers on an rm 85

  • @deathslayer0102 IF you rebuild a 2 stroke yourself and the cylinder is still good. On a 4 stroke you will need new valves, valve seats, piston, wrist pin bearing, and possibly a new cylinder so $1500 would be a good deal.

  • do i have to do this every time? i mean i dont race so some people say 1-3 some everytime any responces?!?!?

  • @druminsk8 just look at the filter depending how must dust is flying around you can see usually every other ride i do if your in doubt about it after a ride clean it

  • i have a question.

1.can i reuse the cleaning liquid over and over again?

    2. what kind of grease should i use on the lips that attach to the box? can i use a universal grease?

    thanks in advance

  • great video, thanks

  • if i want to change the filter do i then just buy a new filter and replace it or do i have to do something with it??

  • hei dude i have a question

is it ok if i wash it with paint thienner and then wash it with water soap and desengrasant and leave it sun dry???

  • i got a 2005 drz125, and im doing the same thing :D

someone told me, if i dont let it dry all the way.. the engine will suck the water into it

  • Nice RM bro

  • Hey what do you do when it says not to use gas to clean your air filter and you just did? I didnt ride it but i need to know if i should just buy a new air filter? my bike is a 2004 crf250r

  • @17landen

what it usually does is breaks down the glue between the filter and the foam/rubber sealing ring. If the sealing ring even seems like it's starting to seperate from the filter, replace it. It might be okay if you did it only once.

  • ok cool thanks

  • when you put the oil on the filter, do you put it on the inside of the filter too?

  • nope, if you watch carefully he massages the oil through untill you can see it on the inside.

  • What do you use as a degrader? Do i have to buy it or can i mix household item? lmao

  • good vid

  • if my bike dosent kick start could it be due to the air filter and spark plug, it is a crf250r 06, at the moment it will not star properly , it takes around 7 mins of kicking it and then eventualy it dose start no matter if it is hot or cold. at the moment i just bump start it and it starts first time, it runs well when it is on but can not idel very well unless it is very warm.

Please may somone help :) what is my problem

  • make sure your spark plug number is correct and you may even want to start running a hotter plug, also clean your air filter every 2 to 3 rides depending on how hard/ dirty you ride. normal maintenance can get that bike running properly in no time

  • i think you need to clean the air filter and also possibly take your carb off and clean it with CARB AND CHOKE cleaner, THAT STUFF WORKS! and then make sure you shoot compressed air through the holes (jets) and everywhere to see if you have blockage, re assemble and hopefully it will work/ tell me how it goes. good luck

  • do you have the choke pulled up?

  • i would take it in to a shop and get you vavles looked at. they are prob old and need to be changed at shimed

  • can you use regular dish washing soap like dawn or something like that?

  • proper air filter cleaning is one of the most important things for an engine, especially one that lives off road in dirt dust and mud.

let it go too long and then you'll soon see the reasons why it is a very important part of cleaning.

  • intake baffle. so i dont know what to do. in my mind the exhaust baffle out wont ruin the engine becaus the only thing it does is reducing the sound and arresting spark. but that in my mind lol... so plz tell me what to do. i would prefer that ppl telling me what to do know what they r talking about. THX ALL good riding

  • ok can someone help me plz. i have an 07 ttr230 and it sound very gay. i wanted to make it louder because i live in an isolated place and the neigbord( voisins in french) have race quad and dirtbike too. so i put out the exhaust bafle( the black thing) in the muffler. it was sounding very good but i putted it back becaus i dint know if it was bad for the engine. so i read some forum thing and some say that i need to rejet the bike, but other say that i only need to do that if i take out the

  • how often should i change the air filter on my kx 125? i have been doing it every couple of rides

  • every 3 to 4 rides depending on hoe hard you ride

  • thanks a lot

  • and clean the air box filter very well with one paper o something like that

  • u use diesle and push it down

    never twist it

  • does every1 really go 2 all this effort cleanin the air filter every couple of rides?

i jst use a aircompressor and blow the dirt out is that ok?

  • compressed air can fuck up your filter

  • how does it fuck it up...i do the same thing air compressor and air valve and blow out all dirt and stick it back in the bike and runs like new...hows it bad

  • That's bad way... you have to clean it and oil it!

You don't have to do it exactly like this guy is doing, you don't need to dry it so long. Just wash it properly in degreaser and hot water, oil it, squeze excess oil and put in your bike. I do it after every bike wash and i wash my bike once a week because i ride often, it takes me 5 minutes to clean and oil filter. Bike works much better, stronger and i'm sure there will be no dust in cylinder.

  • HI BILLY MAYS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hi....i have a 50cc tuned to a 80cc metro kit pro race and i have a polini evolution airfilter and i cnt seem to clean it or get it bk to its normall coulor......and im not sure in my air filter come apart ....i wounder if u can help me ....

  • subtitles in english please

  • Glad I just washed my filter in gasoline, lol.

  • same

  • is it right if i use paint thinner??

  • is it much easier just to buy a new one? Not being very mechanically inclined I am slightly scared I would do something wrong

  • um, there is no nice way to say this, but if you aren't mechanically able enough to clean an air filter, well, how about checkers?

  • Mechanically unable and unsure of proper procedure are different things smartass.

  • man, thank God for people like you that read every last comment ever written in the history of a video. Go get some counseling, maybe it will help with those feelings of inadequacy.

  • the reason for reading all comments on videos like this is that sometimes other people add tips or tricks that werent mentioned in the video. I dont know what gave you the idea i had "feelings of inadequacy", but i guess that you are a dumb person who fakes smart . so if you plan to cut me down at least burn me with something that makes sense asshole. Dumb shits like you who use words like "inadequacy" when its not even relevent, just to justify you completely unvalid point piss me off.

  • nice comeback lol

  • its easier but truly its stupid

watch instructional videos to learn how ur engine works

im 12 and i know how most of the engine on a four stroke and 2 stroke engines shouldnt that tell you sometin lol

  • big deal, you probably ride a 50 or something. I have plenty of money, and found it much easier to buy a good filer, K*N, and its very easy to clean. Go jerk off to playboys 12yr old

  • i have people to do that for me and i ride an 85 iknow its not much

  • good for you for having enough time in your boring carefree life to watch videos all day long. You just sound like an arrogant idiot when you talk like that.

  • what kind of oil do i use please comment back

  • get filter oil from your bike shop. It's sticker that normal oil so it grabs the dust an dirt before it can sneak through

  • petrols much easier to use though =P

  • dude with what i was the filter cold water and soap????

  • huh?

  • Well done, maybe talk a bit about airbox inspection and how not to knock dirt down the airbox boot. I get paranoid when installing the filter thinking that i somehow smudged dirt into the opening. The other thing i can recommend is the hot soapy water cleaning process is to basically grab the filter by the sides and use it to 'scoop' the water through basically reverse flow to the normal flow of air, this washes out the finer particles that get trapped in the second finer foam stage.

  • i have a honda crf 100 how do i take off the seat?

  • you dont need too its only on race bikes you take off the seat

  • u don't on that bike, take off the left number plate, and there'll be a rubber strap thing pull that off and the filters in there.

  • sorry finger mistake that if was the filter with cold water and soap?

  • i use gas to. so did my dad when he raced in the 80's... never a prob

  • they recomend not to use gas in all the dirtbike manuals

  • Very informative.

  • i didnt oil my air filter on my kx 125 and dirt got in my cylinder and ruiend piston and cylinder had to get new cylinder and piston

  • nice vid, but i always clean my air filter with gas, and then just spray it with oil and its done. And never had problem doing it this way. maybe i'm wrong, but its a fast and a safe way cleaning your air filter.

  • gasoline? wouldnt that ruin the filter?

    btw using a paper elem

  • Ive used 2 stroke gas to clean mine for about 30 years never had a bike blow up because of it sucking dirt

  • This was superb, thanks mate.

  • ok so where can i get the oil from? canadian tire, walmart? and which brand do you reccomend?

  • just go to your local dirtbike shop and get some. Filter oil is 'tackier' than normal oil

  • do you have to put oil on it? i just cleaned it in soapy water and put it back in. is that fine?

  • You have to put oil on it. It's the oil that catches the dust and stops it getting into your engine!

  • guys you can use gas itl only deteriat the filter after about the 15th clean with gas so dont worry and after about 15 cleans youd be neading a new one anyway so..... plus gas is the bet cleaner out there

  • he is australia you knob heads

  • nuh uh.

  • why cant i use 2 stroke oil theres nothing wrong with it is their?

  • i did hot water mixed with a little gas and some astringent stuff which seemed too work

  • that´s bullshit!! i EVER use gasoline to clean my air filter

  • dont use gas more than once in a filter's life, it will eat it up!

  • why cant u just soak it in gas or clean it with dishsoap and hotwater??

  • Did you listen to the guy in the video at the top of the screen?

Gas (petrol) causes the foam to swell which enlarges the pores therefore letting dirt particles to pass through.

  • Oh... I didn't know what petrol was.

  • brits use petrol u americans call it gas

  • Do you know what to use? Like I know he said something water sullible, but anything specific? I need to clean my filter and i can't figure out what to use, now that I found out that I can't use gas.

  • yes but another user on here said degreaser has gasolene in it and the guy in the video says to use degreaser so ??

  • +NO DEGREASER HAS KEROSCENE IN IT

  • i clean my filter every ride i would use petrol its just to expensive

  • just buy a new air filter, gosh its not that expensive

  • i dont know what this guy does but um i use spary on air filter oil and i use gas to clean my filter if you use degreaser it eats away at the filter and to add on top of that he is using a stock air filter for racing

  • how do u use gas to clean it????

  • just soak it in gas all the air filter oil comes right off and it looks like new. then you just respray is doing it this guys way is slow and tiring.

  • ohhh buy gas do u mean petrol for cars cause im australian lol thats y i wondered y u said gas didnt no how u would do that,,,, anyway thats wat i use aswell petrol

  • lol ya petrol=gasoline in the american way of saying it different country different name for it lol

  • Americans goodam confuse us brits with "gasoline" Wtf?!?!? just say petrol lol leary my launguage dammit

  • i say it the way i want to say it petrol sounds so fucking stupid

  • i say it the way i want to say it petrol sounds so fucking stupid

  • im not american ass hole... im canadian u bitch

  • em ok sorry didnt mean to offend clam down jesus but then i supose id react the same way if i was called american lol

  • you tell'em!

  • lol i was just jokin around

  • thought canada was in america...

  • this guy knows nothing about cleaning a air filter what so ever cause a degreaser is made from gas

  • I agree.

  • cool, that's great... now... to show it to my dad so HE can do it for me! lol

  • lol um your a noob if you ride and cant clean your own air filter

  • u r ghey
