doctors do not wish to test you becuase they wish to not spend money on the blood test and also i have celiac and im so blessed i was diagnosed young. :)
I'm almost 18 and I have celiac disease from since I was born and when I was like 7 yrs old, everyday I got stomach aches and I puked almost everyday, I think I have a severe kind of Celiac disease. I even developed psychosis from it! I always have strange fears that happen for no reason. At first I thought I had CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) but I was wrong. 18 years full of pain, tears, fear etc..
Can someone relate to my story? Please react to this comment, any1 also had mental problems?
@JohnnyX1239 I was suicidal because I was so malnourished, once I was on the gf diet for two years and off my medication, I'm so happy, healthy, etc. My celiac was so severe (I got diagnosed at Mayo bc nobody in Canada would take me seriously) I almost died, they said it was one of the most severe cases they'd ever seen and that I have a 20% chance of full recovery with a perfect diet. Was very depressed from age 12-17, got diagnosed, followed the diet and now I'm 19 and very happy & healthy.
constand hunger and sleep, no matter ho much i eat/sleep, lots of uncontrollable gas, i mean LOTS, constand constipation/ recurring diarrhea, irratiablity, depression, "brain fog"
anyone think this could be do to celiac disease? im a 19 year old guy
I visit my doctor every month and every month my blood doesnt show any symptons of having celiac disease. We're following my progress carefully, but so far everything has been fine.
I know i have the genetics for celiac disease. I was diagnosed with celiac diseas since I was about 8. When I was 18 i got diagnosed with Leukemia. At the end of the treatment I had a stemcell transplantation. Because I have new Stemcells I might not have celiac disease anymore. I've been eating gluten for 6 months now and theres still no sign of celiac disease. I have no symptons and my blood doesnt show anything either. It looks as if I am cured. But i'm afraid it will return some day
For anyone newly diagnosed and watching videos, if you're upset about not eating wheat... trust me... it's not bad at all. The idea of it is bad, which is what gets people upset, you're used to foods and certain ways of eating, but once you adjust it's honestly like nothing ever changed. Also a good tip, if you're worried about eating bread that tastes like rock covered in glue for the rest of your life, try UDI's bread, seriously. And for hope... a vaccine has been developed and being tested!
This video is fantastic, thanks a lot for sharing. I actually didn't know, that celiac disease leads in most cases only to rather mild inflamation of the intestine?
my cousin has this , He its 17 , he was diagnosed around the age of 8 he has been very responsible he was short before but in about 4 years he got really tall and strong.
eliden, no, that label is from a bag of chips, saying they're processed in a facility that also uses those ingredients (which means if you were allergic/intolerant to any of those you shouldn't eat the chips).
I had it for almost two years, We complained to doctors over 7 times, all they said it was IBS, we kept getting in, then they said I need a psychological check up, we dropped them and got a second opinion, and I got diagnosed.
i am 15 years old and life sucks for me because i have celiac disease it really hurts to know that i cant have a donut, slice of pizza, burger, or any of that good stuff. know the fact that i cant have these things makes me feel like a handicap. Others dont think that celiac is a real major issue they say dont worry theres other things. But its really hard to let go of these things especially when u have been eating all these food from a young age.Life really sucks!p.s gluten free bread is nasty.
I feel for you, I am going to graduate college in the next two years and have always dreamed of joining the military afterwords, but that dream will never become a reality because of this fucking disease.
its pretty nasty yea ive been diagnosed since i was 7 im only 12 but it sucks when i was 8 i couldnt understand why i couldnt have my uncles wedding cake

thats what ive been reading. My appointment is on the 9th of July. So should I just keep with my old diet and keep eating gluten products until after i find out./?
I must also add that I have noticed some improvement eliminating bread from diet. Yesterday I had a burger which was my first gluten filled product in like 3 days and have been in pain since, but it has gone down some.
I dont want to be back in pain but then again I want the test to be reliable.
I'm afraid to suggest anything because I'm not a doctor and I'm only relying on what my dad is going through.
I would suggest calling up your doctor and askng his opinion. My bet is he'd tell you to continue with your normal diet and stick to foods that aren't full of fat. My dad had some fries 3 days before his endoscopy and he threw up. Maybe just sticking to healthier options will help. Get your appointment fast tracked, that's what my dad did when he started finding blood in the toilet.
Keep eating gluten or the testing will be negative. It says so in the other video by USD Celiac Center. You have to be on gluten in order to do the testing.
I started a gulten free diet 2 days ago but havent seen much improvement. I had a salad today at this one resturant and felt bad after having a normal salad with no signs of bread. Is gluten in dressings or on ham bits?
My dad just got diagnosed with Celiac and the gastroenterologist told him that if he starts a gluten-free diet he'll probably start feeling better in two weeks time, but the process of full recovery can take months.
Ksizzlehere, have you been properly diagnosed with celiac? If not, you've got to be very careful about changing your diet, it can make the results of any tests that the doctor does to properly diagnose you, very unreliable.
hey can someone give me some advice? My symptoms are horrible cramp like pain in lower abdominals (slightly above hip area). Pain is on both sides. Ive been dealing with this for over 6 months.I had pizza and my pains got worse with that. Also I got pains in my throat, & heartburn type pain. Felt like i had pressure on my throat. I dont have problems other than that. Food leaves my body will. But then again I have been taking Align (digestive vitamin) as recommended by my last GI .
theree is no cure to celiac disease, no matter what anyone says. Its an injury to your small intestine! There isnt going to be a cure for a ong time, but maybe in like 5 years!!

I've been reading a lot of stories about people who have CD and have been cured by eating totally Gluten Free . .Great. But in every case that I read about . . . when there was an incident and somebody lied, about the gluten content in their food, and they unknowingly ingested an entire portion of gluten . . THEY WERE FINE! If cross contamination and trace amount are so
important . . . why weren't these people who were HIGHLY SENSITIVE have any effects at all, on those ocassions?
I don't know what all those tests are bnecessary. Since there is no harm to the gluten free diet . . why not just go on a gluten free diet? If you feel better . .great! . . . . If not . . .then you know it wasn't Celiac Disease!
You can "bet your bottom dollar", if (or when) the pharmaceutical industry discovers a cure for Celiac Disease . . . 1 in 10 people will have it . . So they can cure it with their NEW & EXPENSIVE drug.
It is nice to see some informative videos about celiacs. I am getting a biopsy done in a couple days so I am hoping to find out for sure if this is what is making me feel sick so often.
I was diagnosed a month ago with a simple blood test. For those of you who wonder, just ask your doctor to test you - that is the only way you will know. I was told for many years that it was IBS-diarhea and to just deal with it. Now, I am already feeling better, with just a few set backs. Don't continue eatting gluten if you are positive - the disease can be "silent" and still be very injurious.
my mom almost died days before we found out she had been living 46 years with celiac sprue. to think something like this almost killed her really makes you think, so my sister and i got tested for the disease as well just to be safe. my mom told us we both had, so we went on from there, which was difficult. fast forward 5 years, i start having some medical problems not associated with celiac. long story short, my mom didn't exactly tell the truth. i don't have celiac. i have the gene. as bad???
I have blood tests coming up next week- Im a little nervous, but there is no fmaily history of this disease, and i personally think ive got wheat allergy or intolerance. I dont know where it came from, ive been fine all of my life?x
I live my life normal, but the worst thing is regular tests every 6 months and my beloved fibroscopy ( atleast when I was little they gave anastesia). I think its not the end of days if you have coeliac
If you have celiac disease like me avoid all prepared foods and stick to meats, fruits, vegetables and basic spices (avoid mixed spice). Do not take vitamins as they are made with gluten. Celiac's causes deficiencies in potassium (can cause high blood pressure), Iron (can cause anemia, sun sensitivity) and calcium (bone and teeth problems). Celiacs have a hundred times the normal chance for diabeties and colon problems including cancer so live to prevent it.
Burgers and fries may not give you symptoms but they are most likely contaminated and therefore causing damage. Fries at a place like McDonalds are most likely fried in the same oil as breaded chicken nuggets.
I have celiac disease and I'm 14. It's not that bad after a while there are a ton of really good foods you can get from whole foods and nature stores like gluten free pizzas, breads, snacks, and you can still eat like almost all chips and snacks. Also restaurants like outback have gf menus now! And if your a burger fan you can still eat burgers and fries just ask for no bun
My doctor thinks i may have Coeliac disease - getting blood tests next week. Im really hoping it comes back negative because then i cant eat all the stuff i like!!! grrrrrr
So does mine...maybe, i might have a thyroid or some other autoimmune dissorder(although celiac is one)...anyways, be sure to eat lots of food with gluten in it the day before the test for best results. they say if you havent had gluten in your system for a while and you do the test, it will come back negative
PS: She has had a biopsy - but this was for PBC - not sure if the CD biopsy requires the sample from a different part of the gut/stomach? I ask this because she hated the biopsy - she nearly strangled the guy with the camera to death when he took the sample without warning :-0
I live in the UK and my wife of Irish decent has been diagnosed with PBC. But having read about CD I'm wondering that it's his not PBC. Her symptoms are similar but not all. She is allergic to shellfish. However, they have done a blood test and said that PBC was indicated - a protein or something. But you say that we should also check for CD if you have PBC. So I will ask my GP to test her for CD. She's becoming a real pain at the moment - very depressed and snappy. I'll let you know more.

you know I been suffering with ibs or some shit colon trouble for years and I get sick if I eat flour bread gravy anything with wheat and any spicy stuff I had stomach sugery and it did no good for heart burn I have took a ton of pills that dont work been ill for along time I got to try this I been taking flagyl for a month now to help me get the posin out of me I'm tired of this suffering and the doctors act like your faking I'm sick of it
Ive recently been diagnosed with ceoliac disease and had it for 1 year.
Being 16 its kinds tough. I have to block other foods and stuff freinds etc dont eat. But now year on i couldnt care less :)
I feel alot beter and the food aint that bad. Ceoliac disease did affect me alot at the start as i didnt no what to do . But now there is beter labeling on every food and Allergy advise so it's great
Symtoms i had was sickness , tiredness, horrible stomach pains and diorhea.. Not nice but hey lol
alguien podria traducir o subtitular este video ....miles de gente de habla hispana necesitamos saber acerca de este problema..por favor ...no saben cuanto nos ayudarian....please .....
I have been celiac for 3mths it has been a fucking trainwreck so far. Ive damaged villi but i dont get sick when i eat gluten. Thus ive been ignoring for the last 3 months... Yes i know im celiac and i have been ignoring it stupidity i know in the back of my mind i must get myn shit together before something serious happens... im 22 I was low in many vitamins iron, folate, d,c the lot in a blood test so thats how i was discover. If i keep ignoring this what happens?
If you keep ignoring it you'll most likely die...quite slowly too. Practically just starve to death. I've been on a Gluten Free diet for 5years now. It's NOT THAT HARD, it's much easier now than it was 5 years back...there's restaurants that provide Gluten free meals, cookies, cakes, desserts, pastas, breads etc. and they all taste pretty good.
Eventually yes, depending on how long you went undiagnosed it may take awhile for the Villi to regrow and your system to get back to normal. Took me about a year, yet some symptoms were alleviated immediately, but I went undiagnosed for about 10 years
Some people like me still get attacks even with a gluten free lifestyle. It has been proven that rod shaped bacteria like strep and stress can bring about an attack also in some people. Everyones celiac disease seems to be different. I get serious migrains as well as the regular symptoms during an attack and I get attacks about twice a month. Also some people can be triggered by topical gluten from soaps, makeup or creams.
I have celiac disease, it's not that bad, of course better than been on wheelchair. I just can't food which includes gluten ... wheat flour. When i eat it, i will "puke" :D.
i used 2 get stomach aches all the time when i was 6-17 diareah, cramping, always got stomach akes when i ate out. whenever it wasnt my moms cooking, and sometimes id get it at home too. this was 5-8 times a month, its slowly gone away, now it rarely happens. my daughter was suspected of cecial which got me interested, she doesnt have it but im curious how did u know u had it? are my symptoms sounding like i could have it? iv been really underweight my whole life too, nomatter what i eat
Well, celiac disease and "gluten-free" food diet are not the same thing. I have a celiac disease ... thus, when I eat something which includes gluten i'll puke as i said. Now to your problem ... some celiac cases are not so "hot" ... so maybe you had it for a little time. Your symptoms are telling that you should try to eat things which don't have gluten. Try it ... maybe you are realy alergic at gluten.
You can contact the Warren Celiac Center by phone at 858-822-1022 or check out our website at celiaccenter(dot)ucsd(dot)edu. A copy of this program is available on DVD or VHS through uctv(dot)tv
I think i may have this illness but am not to sure and don't really want to waste a doctors time if i don't. I never used to have any problems but when i was 15 i started having stomach cramps and loud grumbling noises in my abdomen and between 16 and now(18)it has turned into going to the toilet more and at the most incovenient times especially at work. It is really getting me down. Do you think i have Coeliac disease?
i got diagnosed with celiac disease not too long ago... i heard it was one of the most undiagnosed diseases... i think there should be commercials about it like there are for other health issues... because i was getting very sick... thank goodness they foung why
i was diagnosed about a year and a half ago with celiac. got a number of other autoimmune and neurologic diseases + lost my gall bladder, but geez - i really want at least my wheat back. celiac makes me sad :(
This video is so helpful in so many different wonderful ways. Thank you for your dedication and hard work and hours of study to increase awareness of celiac disease and ways to diagnose people properly!
I am atypical celiac. I was "drowning" with "allergies" that didn't respond to allergy shots, chronic constipation, joint pain and dermatitis. I insisted on food allergy testing and found that I reacted to glutens and 9 OTHER foods-ALL of these give me the same reactions-rash,constipation, inflammation just like celiac symptoms! My father died with diabetes, "arthritis", constipation/diahrrea, and 4 way bypass from undiagnosed CD. Both my brothers have the symptoms but won't be tested!
Your symptoms sound a lot like my wife's: many food and airborne allergies, IBS, chronic fatigue. Was there anything useful in this video for you? I don't want to waste my time if it is old hat.
Thank you for posting this video! It is so helpful. Question though: Do we Celiacs really need to use separate utensils/ food appliances as suggested? Even if they are washed with soap and water?
This is a wonderful video. Would like to kindly point out though that intestinal damage is not always directly correlated to symptoms as it is said in this video. That statement leaves out the asymptomatic cases who have flat villi for example.
hey, i have celiac disease! i've had it since i was 4 years old.. its hard keeping the diet but i've gotten used to it, except when i go to a party and there is amazing looking food... then i wish i didn't have it, but i'd rather be healthy.
I appreciate this comprehensive video. I would like to share it with someone in Turkey who says they can't watch YouTube. I can't find it through uctv or google. Can you suggest a link or way for me to share this with her?

@Pyr0nus You may not have the antibodies, but if its a genetic disease, it is in every cell of your body.
You cannot 'cure' celiac disease. Even with stem cells.

AnnaMishel 2 years ago
You can "bet your bottom dollar", if (or when) the pharmaceutical industry discovers a cure for Celiac Disease . . . 1 in 10 people will have it . . So they can cure it with their NEW & EXPENSIVE drug.

It is nice to see some informative videos about celiacs. I am getting a biopsy done in a couple days so I am hoping to find out for sure if this is what is making me feel sick so often.
mbzentner 2 years ago

Thank you for video.
I have coeliac.
I live my life normal, but the worst thing is regular tests every 6 months and my beloved fibroscopy ( atleast when I was little they gave anastesia). I think its not the end of days if you have coeliac
devilpython 2 years ago
If you have celiac disease like me avoid all prepared foods and stick to meats, fruits, vegetables and basic spices (avoid mixed spice). Do not take vitamins as they are made with gluten. Celiac's causes deficiencies in potassium (can cause high blood pressure), Iron (can cause anemia, sun sensitivity) and calcium (bone and teeth problems). Celiacs have a hundred times the normal chance for diabeties and colon problems including cancer so live to prevent it.
ckilr01 2 years ago
Burgers and fries may not give you symptoms but they are most likely contaminated and therefore causing damage. Fries at a place like McDonalds are most likely fried in the same oil as breaded chicken nuggets.
naurek 2 years ago
I have celiac disease and I'm 14. It's not that bad after a while there are a ton of really good foods you can get from whole foods and nature stores like gluten free pizzas, breads, snacks, and you can still eat like almost all chips and snacks. Also restaurants like outback have gf menus now! And if your a burger fan you can still eat burgers and fries just ask for no bun

My doctor thinks i may have Coeliac disease - getting blood tests next week. Im really hoping it comes back negative because then i cant eat all the stuff i like!!! grrrrrr
XrugbygurlX 3 years ago
So does mine...maybe, i might have a thyroid or some other autoimmune dissorder(although celiac is one)...anyways, be sure to eat lots of food with gluten in it the day before the test for best results. they say if you havent had gluten in your system for a while and you do the test, it will come back negative
Donatello97 2 years ago
But if you have it then it's an excuse to eat steak and ptatoes almost every night because you need the iron and potasium.
ckilr01 2 years ago
i think its negative :)

PS: She has had a biopsy - but this was for PBC - not sure if the CD biopsy requires the sample from a different part of the gut/stomach? I ask this because she hated the biopsy - she nearly strangled the guy with the camera to death when he took the sample without warning :-0
flashgunfilms 3 years ago
I live in the UK and my wife of Irish decent has been diagnosed with PBC. But having read about CD I'm wondering that it's his not PBC. Her symptoms are similar but not all. She is allergic to shellfish. However, they have done a blood test and said that PBC was indicated - a protein or something. But you say that we should also check for CD if you have PBC. So I will ask my GP to test her for CD. She's becoming a real pain at the moment - very depressed and snappy. I'll let you know more.

Meat, plain meat is fine. The problem you might encounter with meats are gravies, fillers, marinaides, coatings and sauces.

ive never really found it hard to stick to this diet, ive been coeliac since i was about 2 years old, you just get on with it tbh
pkfroob1 3 years ago
I have been celiac for 3mths it has been a fucking trainwreck so far. Ive damaged villi but i dont get sick when i eat gluten. Thus ive been ignoring for the last 3 months... Yes i know im celiac and i have been ignoring it stupidity i know in the back of my mind i must get myn shit together before something serious happens... im 22 I was low in many vitamins iron, folate, d,c the lot in a blood test so thats how i was discover. If i keep ignoring this what happens?
BeNgEE08 3 years ago
If you keep ignoring it you'll most likely die...quite slowly too. Practically just starve to death. I've been on a Gluten Free diet for 5years now. It's NOT THAT HARD, it's much easier now than it was 5 years back...there's restaurants that provide Gluten free meals, cookies, cakes, desserts, pastas, breads etc. and they all taste pretty good.
Don't ruin yourself for wheat :(
Agaettis 3 years ago
hey you seem like you know alot about this. I gotta ask you, is there a known cure yet?
mrp92a 3 years ago
sadly no, the only known cure is to stop eating anything with wheat, barley, rye and oats.
Some people with celiac can tolerate oats while others can't...it's just something you have to try and be careful with :(
Agaettis 3 years ago
that's sad...
mrp92a 3 years ago
so when you avoid all gluten based products, all of your symptoms will start to go away?
Donatello97 2 years ago
Eventually yes, depending on how long you went undiagnosed it may take awhile for the Villi to regrow and your system to get back to normal. Took me about a year, yet some symptoms were alleviated immediately, but I went undiagnosed for about 10 years
Agaettis 2 years ago
Some people like me still get attacks even with a gluten free lifestyle. It has been proven that rod shaped bacteria like strep and stress can bring about an attack also in some people. Everyones celiac disease seems to be different. I get serious migrains as well as the regular symptoms during an attack and I get attacks about twice a month. Also some people can be triggered by topical gluten from soaps, makeup or creams.
ckilr01 2 years ago
Just be strong, you are not getting vitamins, and nutrients your body needs, stop eating gluten!!

I have celiac disease, it's not that bad, of course better than been on wheelchair. I just can't food which includes gluten ... wheat flour. When i eat it, i will "puke" :D.
matysek123456 3 years ago
i used 2 get stomach aches all the time when i was 6-17 diareah, cramping, always got stomach akes when i ate out. whenever it wasnt my moms cooking, and sometimes id get it at home too. this was 5-8 times a month, its slowly gone away, now it rarely happens. my daughter was suspected of cecial which got me interested, she doesnt have it but im curious how did u know u had it? are my symptoms sounding like i could have it? iv been really underweight my whole life too, nomatter what i eat
lejink 3 years ago
Well, celiac disease and "gluten-free" food diet are not the same thing. I have a celiac disease ... thus, when I eat something which includes gluten i'll puke as i said. Now to your problem ... some celiac cases are not so "hot" ... so maybe you had it for a little time. Your symptoms are telling that you should try to eat things which don't have gluten. Try it ... maybe you are realy alergic at gluten.

Do you think i have Coeliac disease?
cobblers89 3 years ago
you need to "waste" doctor's time whether or not you have this condition. you have a problem that needs to be fixed.

Both my brothers have the symptoms but won't be tested!
patsheek 4 years ago
Your symptoms sound a lot like my wife's: many food and airborne allergies, IBS, chronic fatigue. Was there anything useful in this video for you? I don't want to waste my time if it is old hat.
quigleydoor 3 years ago
Thank you for posting this video! It is so helpful. Question though: Do we Celiacs really need to use separate utensils/ food appliances as suggested? Even if they are washed with soap and water?
ekim008 4 years ago
This is a wonderful video. Would like to kindly point out though that intestinal damage is not always directly correlated to symptoms as it is said in this video. That statement leaves out the asymptomatic cases who have flat villi for example.
