I just bought an '88 Vanden Plas, running great! It of course has some problems, and I was hoping some of you Jag enthusiasts could help me out. Warnings which I have seen are "low power fluid" (which was checked and is not low), "low brake pad"
and "low power fluid" (which may be leaking).
The electronics to the right of the steering wheel are dead. the digital speedometer only reads in km/h. Does the steering wheel adjust up and down? 2 of the door handles will not open from the outside.
all those problems XJ40 Chassis Common theres a lever underneath the steeringwheel for you to move it and the eletronics on the right side are dead because of one wires have corrosion or needs a fuse. the door handels on the outside need new pins or u can just replace them wich is not an easy job im use to opening the doors from the inside now doesnt bother me much.
I have one too, and Im fixing some problem with the "governor". But I dont know that much about my car, I got it like new and it has 100,000 miles. Can you help me in something contacting you for anything?

I've got a 1985 jaguar xj6 and I'm currently fixing some wiring problems.
but the engine runs strong
according to the stats it could have 175-225 hp stock
I want to get it up to 325
