Oh, back when I mentioned the Goins Brothers' version of this song, I just remembered something...they did a better sounding version than at the Bean Blossom festival where the banjo was in it all the way to the end...I know this particular version (not the Bean Blossom festival version, of course) is on at least 2 cassette tapes, I'm starting to think it's on this "Best of Bluegrass" cassette tape with various artists on it, as the version on that tape is a little longer than the other version.
Hi, just got an update here granada90, I just received the "Best of Bluegrass" cassette tape yesterday as well as a CD with all the tracks on it, and as it turns out, I was right...the Goins Brothers' version of Lonesome Pine Breakdown is the same one that's on at least 1 "Bluegrass Festival" tape...you okay if I possibly send you a link someday to the track? They did it in F# instead of G, so it's pretty decent sounding, really just alternating parts of banjo and fiddle.
Hey, I was wondering if you heard this song being played by the Goins Brothers? It's on this Bean Blossom Festival mp3 that you can find on some torrent-related websites, but it's a couple of hours long. Funny thing about that version is, the banjo player breaks a string about 1/4 into the song, and doesn't play with the rest of his group until later on in the song Wildwood Flower.
Yeah, I've heard it. Do to the fact I try to keep my vids "Scruggsy", I just did a simple ending. I get more response from others trying to learn a "Scruggs style", than trying to "Fleck" the tunes. I love teaching the most. I also do set-up work. Later!
That's fine, BTW, I don't know if you got this, but I was wrong about Don Stover being the original artist of this instrumental, oddly enough, it was originally done by the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, whose version sounds a bit like yours. I was lucky enough to find their version in a torrent. Still, any chance your band as a whole will do this one someday? I'm wondering.
Good pickin on the old lonesome pine fiddlers tune. I used to hear Charlie Cline pick this in Bluefield WV in the mid 50s Always good to hear you doing the old tunes.
