  • its the authorities that causes distress and havoc NOt U2... the people seem to enjoy this sense of freedom even back then... FREEDOM IS BLISS... hurray for U2... i love the 80s..

  • Preformed on top of "The Million Dollar Hotel." A decade before the movie was made. If you haven't seen the movie, watch it. Not a movie watcher, listen to the soundtrack.

  • what is the song playing in the first five seconds?

  • This is real music, Lil wayne, rhianna, pit bull, no one can give you this kind of music.

  • i agree!.....best...i love l.a....tinsletown...old sci-fi movies...the cops had to shut it down...people could have been hurt..traffic probs...just this one song said it all!

  • the most amazing live show, forever U2!

  • Great video!

  • We The People!

  • amazing concert all my travels to L.A. and I missed this one =;(

  • Only, U2 give free concerts...

  • Great song, sort of reminds me of I Just Want To Be In Love by The Electric Flamingos :)

  • Come on World! Let's find a way to make this world a great, great place for all of us! Brazil, Thailand, Laos, China, Jakarta, USA, Canada, Taiwan, everywhere... Love to all of you from The Love Doctor, San Rafael and the USA!!!

    Go World!!!

  • @crazymike44 We could, couldn't we? We're so close, aren't we? I'm not so sure, anymore...

  • @AegisNova they all say for 1000's and 1000's of years, the power just switches hands and there is always an us and a them! Right now, This time things are changing! It's going to be a tough Transformation, but it will happen this time... there will be an US!!!

We are so close... maybe a few more years, but we are close... It's going to Happen!!!

Peace is on it's way! Through all the confusion and madness we will find our way!

  • Not full verson. Full verson is about 2:00 longer.

  • Please do this in Los Angeles again.

  • ..that is until.. police.. pulled the plug.

  • The best song made an even better video by the cops!

  • Thank you@2:))).>>>

  • these days if you tried a million man march on Washington they would bring in prison buses and round people up for threatening the...I mean disturbing the peace with an unlawful demonstration!

  • Sounds just like the studio version....

  • Still my favorite of all time. Just wish i could have been there.

  • The Absolute Best Performance Ever! Rock On U2!

  • THIS WAS THE BEST, EVERY TIME I SEE THIS I GET CHILLS. U2 IS AWESOME STRAIGHT OUT POSTED UP IN DOWNTOWN L.A. I LOVE IT!

  • You see that cops? NO one shuts down U2.

  • i want to take you to a misinformed flame war...yeah, yeah-yeah

  • Well when the streets have no name, write a song about how easy it's going to be to find a pediatric surgeon at 3 am. Do that song next

  • i bet most people dont know that U2 were told to shut down by the cops, and U2 did right whent the cops told them, the cops knew they were making a video, so they let U2 finish where the streets have no name, and then told U2 to shut down, and U2 shut down literally right after the cops told them too, the film was just edited to make it look like U2 were defiant

  • @southpark645 No they weren't... they did several more songs. Have you seen that video I posted?

  • @Netlocd bro, U2 shut down immediately when the cops told them too, they finished the current song they were playing and shut down... Ive read it in articles, Ive seen interviews with U2 about it

  • @southpark645 ... Okay, but that's not what I asked. I asked if you saw the videos of the liquor store performance.

  • @Netlocd no i havent, but you said that i was wrong about U2 shutting down though :)

  • @southpark645 You are wrong about U2 shutting down because they didn't shut down immediately, they shut down after several more songs.

  • @Netlocd Your'e dumb, ive seen interviews with the band and read articles about the fimlimng of the video, the cops told U2 to shut down, and U2 played ONE more song and then shut down.

  • @southpark645 Okay, so you contradicted yourself. You said they shut down immediately, yet they played another song... I am confused.

  • @Netlocd the cops told them to shut down, and the ONE more son they played was streets... i think thats what i meant

  • @southpark645 Yeah, but it's still cool.

  • what year was this

  • @bfoley727 Joshua tree was release back in 87ish so imn assuming the video is 87-88

  • This performance was EVENTUALLY shut down, however, there were several songs after this on top of the liquor store. Type in "where the streets have no name liquor store" or "u2 liquor store".

  • I made love with all Joshua Tree album, cassette and

CD to several very beautiful women in my life, the type you only get in your AL BUNDY dreams, and when Achtung Baby came out I made love harder, goddamn!

Glorious time in our youths will live forever and we'll communicate like the borg.

Hallelujah peace and love, the love is felt through this song.

    I GO THERE WITH YOU...

  • Love it!

U2 is one of the greatest bands of all time.

  • BEST DAMN LIVE VIDEO EVER MADE!!!!!

  • I guess when you are lucky enough to have a song like this given to you, then you just have to share it...

  • VERY, VERY EMOTIONAL VIDEO..THE Whole concert was power by their tour bus!! Look at all the dancing, poeple on light poles! The Amercian Spirit at its finest!!!

  • lol Duke Nukem on the drums

  • fukin cops did not get any money under the table thats why they stop the show bono should have brought poison donuts for these pigs

  • somebody should kill these fukin cops

  • Where the streets have NO COPS!!!

  • LOVE U2!!

  • Does anyone else hear Sims 3?

  • U2 is awesome. i saw them in concert. they were loud

  • The Beatles did this in 1969... i've heard Bono did this partly cause of them, which would make sense cause he is an obvious beatles fan.. pretty freakin awesome thing for any band to do

  • One of my all time favorite videos....and who are the 88 numbnutz that don't like the video ???

  • One of my all time favorite videos....

  • that guitar sound. damn. so awesome.

  • when we were young

  • I'd pay Bono to read me the phone book to bed.

  • LOVE IT :)))

  • U2 is awesome!!!

  • Fucking cop like always acting like they own the fucking st.

  • Ah, the good old days, when you could just play on a roof top and and have spontaneous, free gathering of people from all over the county!!! That was America! These days you'd have TSA strip searching everybody and police give tickets to raise money.

  • The Police dont like it because of a control problem they did not have like kids my way my way my way I'am above the LAW

  • FUCK DA POLICE!

  • @ebsm93 This wouldn't have been such an awesome video (let a lone a video at all) if it hadn't been for the cops...

  • @twodeadpoets

the street CONCERT would've been longer, as in THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO PLAY MORE THAN ONE SONG.

but you're right, the cops do add a nice touch - inadvertently - they provide a sort of ironic on the spot depiction of our society where Da Man does everything in his power to smother the glory and beauty of a free humanity

  • Comment removed

  • @ebsm93 So it wasn't any longer? This is it? The totality of the filming? Or was this just a snippet of what they got on film? I don't know because I wasn't there but it was Hollywood....

  • Yea man! It's us against them! The darkness against the force! If only the cops didn't exist, we'd be living peaceful kumbaya and love in harmony cause we don't need no stinking "man" (who ever that is)...

  • @ebsm93 You can not smother Glory! True Glory is like a seed! It will always find a way to shine through no matter how many times it is smothered! And each time, it will only get stronger and stronger and stronger!!! Let Glory shine! Because here it comes!!!

  • They are the best even little kids love the music U2!The police are haters when they do not have controal the kings little puppets.

  • Love them in Denver!

  • Tonight I heard this song live by them. I never felt anything as powerful through music in my life. I had chills then, I have them now.

I love my U, thank you for rocking Denver!!!

  • ..U2 IS IN DENVER NOW!..and hey the world didn't end today..May 21, 2011.. :) powerful song

  • I dont know what to say yet... i am still in shock and awe...)))

  • @ mmchale11 are u still stoned ? you said you were there 5 times

  • My spirit soars everytime I hear this song!!

  • Bono was cool before he sold out.

  • @cindernation12 Sold out? Huh? That might be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!!!

  • @bestofalltimeU2 Several years ago I heard he blew out the side of a mountain to put in a swimming pool. I still love U2 music and I always will.

  • @cindernation12 Don't know what to say to that except...whatever.

  • I was there it was Sept 1 or Aug 31 1987 I was stoned

  • I was there

  • all I can say is Hell yeah that was a very Positive display of Awesomeness

  • As Jay once sang... Fuck Fuck, Fuck the Police, Fuck Fuck, Fuck the Police, Yo Fuckem!

  • I was there

  • I was there in 87 sometime around September 1st. I dont remember much from then I was stoned.

  • I was there in 87

  • When I hear this it reminds me of '87 when I first heard it. I met an LA girl in England and took her home to show her Ireland. She introduced me to the Joshua tree album and very soon after I was seeing Joshua tree in person. We fell for each other and I came to LA to be with her 6 months later and never left California since. Meeting her on the train in England changed my life and this song and the entire album reminds me of the great romance we had and my first few tears in LA. amazing times

  • awesome band crap the bacon!!!

  • The Beatles' The Beatles' final concert, as depicted in the film Let It Be inspired U2's rooftop performance on the rooftop of the Republic Liquor Store played at a tempo of 126 beats per minute "Where The Streets Have No Name" at West 7th Street and South Main Street in Los Angeles on 27 March 1987 . I believe they passed the audition.

  • "i want to run, i want to hide, i want to tear down the walls that hold me inside, i wanna reach out and touch the flames! Where the Streets have no name!!!" > "gotta get up gotta have my cereal"

  • Cops just got owned.

  • I will begin

  • All of us have a thousand wishes. To be thinner, to be bigger, have more money, have a cool car, a day off, a new phone, etc. A cancer patient only has one wish, to kick cancer's ass. I know that 97% of you won't post this as your status, but my friends will be the 3% that do. In honor of someone who died, is fighting cancer or even had cancer, post this for at least one hour.

  • the best

  • Beatles were overrated, Stones kicked their asses!

  • @MrJByrne3 Depends on the venue. Longevity Stones win hands down. Music that the vast majority of people can relate to ,Stones get smoked. I'm objective enough to make some what of a call. Fan of both.

  • @mrREDBIRDFAN No, I'm objective! I like both but the Stones were more of a kick ass band. The Beatles were great don't get me wrong but the Stones were never out done. The Beatles sold out where the Stones didn't.

  • @MrJByrne3 how to say this? i believe 95% of what people call out a band for "selling out" is complete BS. every band that makes it wants to sell out(Ie make money lots of it). that being said i feel their are few bands that have truly "sold out". best example? ac/dc. they have kept the same songs/beats/etc since forever. THAT is selling out, if the band had changed(such as the Beatles) then they have not sold out to the extent you are talking about.

  • The Beatles did it better.

  • @PussPussProductions not really

  • @corvette831 no yeah, they did. U2 is clearly are trying to be like the Beatles. besides the song, this is not original. Been Done. a lot of artists today do things that older band did. Cold-play dressed up in "Sgt. Pepper's" suits and Paul McCartney even commented on it.

  • @PussPussProductionsThe Beatles are a completely different music style, peace, kum-bai-ya love and pot smoke.. these guys have pure Euphoric energy, that reaches right down into your soul and tickles your adrenaline vein.. as far as the rooftop, sure the Beatles did it first.. But think about this, whose video gets more views?? U2 Owned this... if anyone EVER got close to this performance Id be Shocked.. This is purely Epic.. and the quality/original?? who gives a shit...

  • @PussPussProductions :"...........a lot of artists today do things that older band did. Cold-play dressed up in "Sgt. Pepper's" suits and Paul McCartney even commented on it......."

wow, that is, just, crazy.. i mean really? he commented on some sgt. pepper suits? im totally blown away, that right there makes me think that u2 really IS tryin to be the beatles.. gosh.. ppl please, please dont wear sgt pepper suits.. this could mean you arent as good as the beatles.....

  • @bubblez112604 not saying U2 or Coldplay is bad. just sayin that the Beatles were the inspiration for alot of bands

  • Bono=sexiest man alive

  • simplemente lo mejor. i love you

  • This is the greatest song of all time! And a totally awesome music video too! Stick it to the man, U2!

  • I was there. September 1st or August 31 1987

  • @mmchale11 That is really cool to me that you were there.

I only remember watching it on MTV later.

Now I can pull it up anytime I want to.....

  • I was there

  • Meh...The Beatles performing on the rooftop of Apple Records was far more epic.

  • @NRPBrute screw the beatles. go watch their videos.

  • Legends! Irish legends <3 makes me proud to be part irish

Im like 30 mins from L.A but I wasnt born yet

  • Why couldn't I have been in L.A. the week of this shoot!?

  • U2 should do something like this, except Sunday Bloody Sunday in Libya.

  • LOL....Fight the Power!!!!

  • I guess the LAPD wasn't busy beating up minority that day

  • wasnt it a peaceful protest... why and how could the cops even stop it ?

  • Comment removed

  • I totally remember when this happened! Gotta love a band with balls! Rick Dees from KIIS fm was following the event while I listened. Awesome!

  • At all other locations around the world, where they did a surprise appearance/concert, you barely see a cop. Everything is peacful. What's up south cal, why is it ALWAYS your cops that mess everything up. They managed to mess this one up too.

  • kudos to U2 for this feat.

  • U2 at their best

  • I remember this it was cool.

  • @themadbatter get your facts straight this was a music video the police were involved look up the video on vevo stupid

  • Great video; i dont like how it kills the guitar intro/outro though

  • I am raised in Southern California, I remember this day!

the best video ever, great song, U2 had the balls to have it their way !

I walked be the Dearden's Sotre only a few days before! my timig was off by 48 hours...

I would love to see them... what a great moment in history... BTW there are 84 deaf that voted !

  • @Mazwoodring You're right, definitely the best video ever

  • I am raised in Southern California, I remember this day!

the best video ever, great song, U2 had the balls to have it their way !

  • got to this from the nina blackwood facebook fan page...amazing video!!! MTV was the best when it first came out!!!! Nina B, JJ, and all of the original FIVE...those were the best days! The original VJs!!

Thumbs up if you agree!! JJ may you rest in peace....the other 4 are on sirius xm now hosting 80s music....JJ you will be missed : (

  • @1wantmyMTV I watched the first video ever played on MTV Video Killed The Radio Star way before these kids were even thought about. What happened to MTV? The name was supposed to say it all. Music Television now they play movies and junk that doesn't even pertain to music. They need to get back to their roots. Get back to what made em popular.

  • Of course!!. The streets have no name and countries have no lines on them (from the view from the sky above). We created these distinctions out of our own minds and believed them to be true. I'm glad I found this out :D

  • i just passed by the market they were playing on yesterday!!! awesome memories

  • hot boys! especially the pony tail & the one with no shirt.....yummm

  • @Jules7103 You mean The Edge and Adam Clayton? *rolling eyes*

  • You could say this was the first flash mob.

  • Everyone in L.A. carries a special place in their heart for this song. They feel like it belongs to them in part because of this video.

  • They couldn't shut down this EPIC Performance!! I LOVE U2!!

  • david brought me hear :D

  • I said it back in '87 and I say it again. Screw the cops, they really can't get in the spirit of the event here. Really...these guys wanted to setup and play for a bit, film their video and split. For chrissake, LA bends over like crazy for celebs. Why was this any different?

  • Comment removed

  • LET FREEDOM RING.....LOUDLY!!!!

  • the 84 dislikes have no livessss

  • Why wouldn't they appreciate a free live performance? I've always liked this video!

  • Comment removed

  • 85 cops watched this video and disliked it :)

  • Drug Free:)

  • I remember this day. It was about three miles away from my house. They announced it on the radio and in half an hour there was already a big crowed there. It was on top of the liquor store on 7th and Main Street Downtown LA. The LAPD always new how to spoil a good time. I'm surprised they got a chance to record this before they shut it down. Daryl Gates was the chief at that time. He was a prick .

  • @benthemiester Are you sure...you "remember" this day....or did you just look it up like everyone else?

  • @SilverCali11 Born and raised in LA. I lived at 218 N ST Louis street in Boyle Heights. No need to lie.

  • @benthemiester West Lake Village right here

  • @SilverCali11 Not only do I remember this day, but I also remember the day they brought in Richard Ramirez the Night Stalker to Hollenbeck police station, which was about a hundred yards from my house. Ask anyone from LA and they will tell you they have seen some shit. Its not that big a thing to lie about.

  • @benthemiester Believe me I know. I've seen alotta stuff. I was just questioning you. Like 30 Secounds to Mars "Kings & Queens." Most fun I've ever had riding a bike.

  • THOSE COPS SUCK THEY HAVE NO MUSICAL TASTE

  • @JOHNNYBLAZE111567 no they just had to make sure noone got hurt from the crowds

  • 85 people are pissed off 'cause they got lost where the streets have no name.

  • @alexmejia26

    thats funny as shit

  • if i were u2 id ask the cops "do you know who we are?" and then the edge would start beating them with a guitar....... okay nevermind unless i want a lifetime in jail or somethin like that... lol

  • America isn't going to tolerate cops shit forever people.
