They use the same effects found in starwars :) I didn't think THAT was possible :P Sarcasm away, people who can't make up their mind about this being "real" holograms or not should do a youtube search for "augmented reality". It's really cool stuff and there are games being made utilizing these techniques using a regular webcam. Awesome stuff.

Here's a thought. Just a thought. If they want to test project bluebeam holograms on network tv. First they do so and say its real, then they come back and say it was all a hoax. That way the public beleives that they don't have hologram technology.

Yeah, it is probably not a real hologram, just a very masterful copy-paste into the image. If the studio audience could in fact see it, that'd be incredible, but from what she herself says, it doesn't sound like it. :(

Simple digital cut and paste, it has been done in movies and tv shows for decades.

Unless the audience can actually see her in three dimensions, it is NOT a hologram.

yeah she was surrounded by a green screen in the room. however the cameras moved in her tent communicated with the cameras in the newsroom and that's how it worked. if you go to cnn's website, click on video in the top right then click on the "by section" link about halfway down the page, then select "tech" on the left hand side and you should see it there. they explain it.

He says he's seeing her, but it's a reference to the broadcast we're seeing, not as if she's in front of him. This is a "tomogram", not a "hologram". A tomogram has 35 cameras and a good computer placing her on a screen as if she was visible in a studio. The red disc on the floor is just bullshit to make people think it's coming from there and as a placeholder for what direction the person actually there has to look over at.

The newsreporter can probably see the projected result on a screen off-camera. However, the red reference point could be used to have him assume where the "hologram" would have been. It's easy with todays software and technology to give the impression of such amazing concepts as holographic projections. Of course, it is just augmented there, and I stay with my point until I witness an eyes-first glimpse of such a hologram in action. You can play around with anything in media. Look at Star Wars.
