Jordan- LMFAO!!!!!!! Great con, but it isn't true! Bon Jovi Girl- It was Delaware-not Calder- the only stakes races the BJG ever won were in Delware. OUTSIDE of Delaware, THAT was the only race she won in 2009! Just Jenda- she has been off the board in every race since August of last year. GGGal- She won the Acorn- and was dead last after that- twice. Where is the Kentucky Oaks field? Flying Spur and Stone Legacy, A Fleet D are now in allowence and claiming races.
@HollywoodParkSteward I was mistaken about Bon Jovi Girl winning stakes at Calder. Yes, she won them at Delaware(I was confused because there are Susan's Girl stakes at Calder and Delaware). But does it really matter?. Fact is, Bon Jovi Girl is a stakes winner! Fact is, GGGal is a 2 time gr.1 stakes winner, beating Proviso in the gr.1 Santa Monica. And the 2 fillies Rachel beat by 20 in the Mother Goose, well Flashing is a 2 time gr.1 winner and Malibu Prayer is a gr.1 winner. What con?
I LOVE this filly!!! She is all heart, love the hand ride by Calvin. A win by 8 lengths, easy, she is the most exciting horse to watch to me. Her 3yo season was deserving of HOTY honors, no doubt.

Now if you ask many of the top handicapper's which is the most important trait for a race like this and they will tell you that it is tactical speed which Z does not posess! She is at the mercy of the fractions in front of her, we shall see soon.
What filly dare try to run early with this MONSTER!!! Without sprinter like males in the race to keep the pace hot this future Hall of Famer and all time great should win the Apple Blossom!
THIS WAY OVERRATED FILLY even at this race is 4 lengths behind Zenyatta. at 1/16, will be 7-9 lengths behind Zenyatta at 1/8. She just looks impressive because she is running against really mediocre horses/fillies. The only MONSTER IS T-REX ZENYATTA EATING ANY BAMBI infront of her.
From a gambling standpoint this result makes me very happy as the horse needed the race and now all the wagon jumpers will hop aboard. R.A just went from 4/5 to 3/1 in a flash and Zenyatta will take all the money plus all the pressure of going undefeated. Please hold your feedback till 4/10/10 when the Apple Blossom is completed, which at that time I will kindly eat my words if RA is passed in the stretch by any horse!
@lovebeat2 You peeps are blind. There wasn't no burst of speed at the stretch. Those other horses were dogs and dying gives the illusion RA is kicking. look at that time 3/4 to the mile was about 25 secs and if you look at that last 1/16 that is 6.2 another 25 sec Q.
haha, look at zenyatta's final 1/4 in her lone dirt start... 24 and change.. and considering she is going to be about 15 back at the 1/16 pole, that probably wont cut it
@willy: You can't even read a race. This overrated filly ran this 1/16 at 1:43 2/5 while Zenyatta ran this same course and distance at 1:42 3/5. This tells you what kind of SORRY AZZ horses OVERRATED RACHEL ran against throughout her OVERRATED CAREER. HAHAHAHa. Rachel has no chance at the AB. Another excuse is comingup LMFAO!!
*1 43 1/5- and she did it at 3 years old UNDER WRAPS.. lol - you are rediculous on so many levels. "this is a clean workout for her" ... See you april 9th, you creepy old fuck
Yeah I know. I was referring to it as one of her beginning races. My pt is usually when 2 or early at 3 the races they start in are against nobodies. Like they say winning isn't EVERYTHING. You can see a lot of other great horses who have lost races.
is that really relative? Maybe RA wasnt yet her solid self at two, but then again, how many times did Zen race as a 2-year-old? Oh, wait...she didnt race at all at two. She won her first race in November of her 3-year-old season. I absolutely LOVE Zen, shes fantastic, but WILL PEOPLE PLEASE STOP BASHING RACHEL. For Christs sake shes a damn good horse, too. No need to find faults in her every race. Maybe Zen was perfect in victories, but thats not the only thing that makes a horse great.
Horses are very vulnerable at 2. Even great 2 yr olds suck at 3. Just look at War Pass. Zenyatta would've lost every race at 2 and most at 3. She just wasn't ready. Heck even Cigar lost a few so being unbeaten doesn't do much for me. Zenyatta's career has been so pampered it's pathetic.
zen had to let her bones knit she's a huge girl and her management have been responsible for letting this beautiful gilrl mature the right way, the paycheck paled compared to letting her be the best horse she could be.....look out RA I used to be your numberone fan, you are a great filly but Zen is gunning for you I am eager to see the excuses when RA loses to her on a dirt track, considering Zen ran one of her best in the apple blossom, synthetic track is a non issue, get over it
Hey logjammers, Sheriffs didn't even race Zenyatta as a 2 year old because he was conservative. In fact I don't believe she raced until 4 years old. Ya she is undefeated but she wasn't exactly pushed into the races either like Rachel. If Rachel started her career as a 3 year old she would be undefeated as well. At 3 Rachel accomplished more then Zenyatta did as a 4 year old. Horses are like humans. It takes time to mature. Dont criticize Rachel's 2 yr old career.
maybe if her greedy owners didn't run her at 2 and let her mature as it should be I would be more on her side,,,,, that old bastard who owns her is a self important east coast snob...... re War Admiral vs. Seabiscuit not to menttion is the reason Man O War didn't enter the Derby, east coast snobs and all about the paycheck
at least Sheriffs and the Motts are more caring about the big girl
her "greedy" owners purchased her as a 3 year old, so it is kind of hard to knock her new owner for running as a 2 year old. Dont ya think? And on a side note, Jess jackson purchased her for this reason, to run in the big races.
This is the beginning of her 3rd year racing. Compared to Zen (at that same age), Rachel by then already had broken 2 stakes records for time and has won more races than Zen at that age.
and she will break down earlier because she was started too hard and easy, why do you think she has been off since Sept. I commend the Motts and Sherriffs for letting those bones knit and mature before asking her to run, I forsee bad situation for RA , not happy about it, but east coast superiority clouds the judgement at times
she has been off because she ran 8 stakes in 8 months. if she was not 100% they're is no way asmussen would run her in the apple blossom. Funny thing is, the moss's friends are entering there own horses "to ensure an honest pace".. who do you think is more nervous? lol
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
American racing is insuperior to european, you only have to see last years breeders cup meetings for that. How come American trained horses don't race too often in europe, like in the Arc or King George?
These other horses are Stakes winners. For example: Just Jenda won the Tiffany Lass and the Honey Bee (G3), and placed in 3 other stakes races this year.
Afleet Deceit placed in 2nd in 3 Stakes races (2 of which were with RA!).
GIVE IT UP PIXIE POET -- these are 3 year old lil girls. You keep bragging about Rachel's time in the Mother Goose. Then I suggest you play Zenyatta's time on this track when she won the Apple Blossom on a hand ride from Mike Smith. ON THE SAME DISTANCE 1/16 Zenyatta run it at 1:42 3/5 while Rachel ran it at 1:43 2/5 That means Rachel is 4 to 5 lenghts behind Zenyatta at 1/16. I could just imagine how much farther she would be at longer races. Rachel are beating mediocre fillies. FACT!!
actually she ran it 3/5 of a second faster, which is 3 lengths, and Rachel was under wraps, while Zenyatta was being urged. And also, their two races were a year apart, track surfaces change on a regular basis. The track could be playing fast one week, and slow the next. Just look at Del Mar since it's opened for it's meet.
Calvin Borel whips her less and less as time progresses. Has anyone seen the races before this? When he first started riding her (Golden Rod) he whipped her more. Now he seems to just tap her butt.
RA has set 5 new records in 4 graded stakes: Golden Rod (new time record), Martha Washington (new time record), Kentucky Oaks (new winning margin record), Mother Goose (new time record- FASTER than Ruffian) (new winning margin record- previously held by Ruffian). The only horse (girl OR boy) in Preakness history to win from the far outside position. She has won her past 7 races by a combined margin of 39 1/2 lengths.
There is a common misperception that Rachel Alexandra has not faced good 3 year old fillies. Well, just in this race, there was Bon Jovi Girl, who has since won a stakes at Calder in very fast time over the Black-Eye-Susan winner. Additionally, this race featured Just Jenda, a multiple graded stakes placed filly. In the Fair Grounds Oaks she beat Four Gifts, winner of the graded Eight Belles, and Flying Spur. Gabbys Golden Gal, crushed by Rachel in the Oaks, won the gr.1 Acorn next out.
notice at .40 her ears are pricked and they stay that way the entire race.. while the others are pinned back the entire time... but the 2 place horse showed good heart
nobody has the speed to stay with her up front... today the two other horses run themselves in the ground trying to beat her, which was the best thing to do... but 1 mile in 1.33 finishes drawing off by 20, winning the preakness. I dont think zenyatta can beat the males unless its a bunch of claimers
Dissappointing!! If anybody has a small chance of beating Zenyatta, it was Rachel specially if there were no other speed in the race. Oh well I thought it would have been a great race even though I still give Zenyatta the edge based on the speed rating.
Omg. She has such long, effortless strides. She makes it look so easy, as the other horses struggle alongside. What a gorgeous girl. Truly one of the best fillies I've ever seen. The next Ruffian!
lol @ 0:39, the jockey fixes his helmet or itches his nose? idk point being, he must not be working to hard to get that horse to run, amazing ride, amazing filly!
i agree. ive watched a lot of her races and it looks like shes just galloping along barely trying and making the others just stand in place. amazing filly.
Watching Calvin on Rachel Alexandra is like watching poetry in motion. Great win in the Preakness! Can't wait to see the run-off between Rachel Alexandra and Mine That Bird in the Belmont Stakes. This is actually going to be as fun as watching a Triple Crown race.
I noticed her likeness to Ruffian as well. I'm a huge Ruffian fan. As a child about 6 or 7 yrs old, I would sneak away from my grandparents home to watch Ruffian train. I was immediately struck by how much alike they are. Both are long, tall, easy striders with blazing speed whose win in never in doubt. Ruffian was a wire to wire runner, never giving up the lead in any race. That style is not seen in today's racing but Rachel A. is just as dominant. She is something very special.
Rachel is a great racehorse, the best filly I have ever seen in my life. She does appear to be a modern day Ruffian. This gal is in my mind the best horse in training, colt or filly period.
You know, I was reminded of ruffian as I watched her. I wasn't around in ruffian's time but I've seen her races and the movie. Rachel Alexandra just took the front and kept it just like Ruffian. Wonderful Horse!
Yay Rachel Alexandra, just saw her win the Oaks by over 20 lengths! She is fantastic, Borel says she's the greatest horse he's ever riden, and he rode street sense, love this filly!
I know right?!?! I had my doubts about her against JustwhistleDixie. But then she demolished the field, I don't think JWD would have stood a chance, she proved the critics wrong with that performance. Of course did you see her this morning working out, she kept trying to bite her excersize rider because he was holding her back, she was ready to run, "A keg of dynamite!"
I thought it would be a more fair race, but now I'm thinking not :) RA is a FREAK! Have you noticed she runs like Ruffian, wins by huge margins, but she doesn't always run on the lead like Ruffian.
Borel never even moved a muscle(except his neck miscles,LOL) on this filly. She just drew off on her own. This was a paid workout,no doubt. I'll bet on this girl anytime!
There are always cynics in every bunch. Just watch how easy she does this, and remember she does this routinely! This filly is a RACEHORSE,PERIOD!!! If one cannot see that, well its a crying shame for them!!
MCELROY, you goober, if all the rest of the field were merely SPRINTERS, why in the hell did they let her make an easy early lead ? Sprinters going long ALWAYS show speed, and not a single one of them dare go with her...you couldn't be more wrong in your assessment of the Fantasy
I really hope they send her to the Triple Tiara since it looks like a Triple Crown try is out of the question (I seriously think she could possibly beat the boys in the Derby without too much of a problem if they sent her there but it looks like the Oaks for her so why not the next best thing? Why not the Triple Tiara?). She would have no problem sweeping the three legs.
I love Calvin, what a great few years it has been for him. I read in an article that he thought RA was a better racehorse than Street Sense. Or more talent or something....
I love the fact that Calvin has the mount. He is a gutsy rider and it must be like Heaven riding a mare with this dominating ability. He didn't even need to ask her,she just went on with it,BEAUTIFUL!!!
I'd keep her right where she is. Let this good filly continue to dominate her peers, no reason to bring her up against the boys and invite the numerous risks that entails...
I saw this race and it was great, her ears were pricked foward and the jockey just asked her to go and she flew down the stretch with ease. I know she will win the Oaks!
The race was even more amazing to watch in person. Calvin never moved his arms or gave her reins. She ran away from the field under a strong hold. Too bad we won't see her run against the colts. She's something special.
Good luck with that after Stardom Bound's performance yesterday. I wish I would of taken her in the futures bet seeing as Justwhistlingdixie was the favorite.
Amazing. She'll win the Oaks or (if her connections are smart enough to enter her in the Kentucky Derby) the Derby. Whichever one they decide to enter her in, she'll win. She is just an amazing racehorse. She was just breezing the whole time. I wonder how fast she could go if pushed. Wow.

notice at .40 her ears are pricked and they stay that way the entire race.. while the others are pinned back the entire time... but the 2 place horse showed good heart
hukeeaboo 2 years ago
nobody has the speed to stay with her up front... today the two other horses run themselves in the ground trying to beat her, which was the best thing to do... but 1 mile in 1.33 finishes drawing off by 20, winning the preakness. I dont think zenyatta can beat the males unless its a bunch of claimers
hukeeaboo 2 years ago
As I have predicted weeks ago. RA's handler won't put her up against Zenyatta...Z will just inhale her at the stretch...lol
6deerhunter5 2 years ago
Dissappointing!! If anybody has a small chance of beating Zenyatta, it was Rachel specially if there were no other speed in the race. Oh well I thought it would have been a great race even though I still give Zenyatta the edge based on the speed rating.
amueller1957 2 years ago
Omg. She has such long, effortless strides. She makes it look so easy, as the other horses struggle alongside. What a gorgeous girl. Truly one of the best fillies I've ever seen. The next Ruffian!

Great filly...but Zenyatta is even greater!! Maybe RA's handler would put her up agains Zenyatta for the 2009 Breeder's Cup but I seriously doubt it.
Zenyatta will be unbeaten again this year...

lol @ 0:39, the jockey fixes his helmet or itches his nose? idk point being, he must not be working to hard to get that horse to run, amazing ride, amazing filly!
prettyprepypink07 2 years ago 2
i agree. ive watched a lot of her races and it looks like shes just galloping along barely trying and making the others just stand in place. amazing filly.
flamingpoet6887 2 years ago
Hes pulling his goggles down he couldn't see because of the dirt

Watching Calvin on Rachel Alexandra is like watching poetry in motion. Great win in the Preakness! Can't wait to see the run-off between Rachel Alexandra and Mine That Bird in the Belmont Stakes. This is actually going to be as fun as watching a Triple Crown race.
rockinarchives 2 years ago 5
Wow, jockey never even had to touch her. Maybe tickle her ear and whisper sweet nothings? lol.

BE109 2 years ago 4
You know, I was reminded of ruffian as I watched her. I wasn't around in ruffian's time but I've seen her races and the movie. Rachel Alexandra just took the front and kept it just like Ruffian. Wonderful Horse!

Yay Rachel Alexandra, just saw her win the Oaks by over 20 lengths! She is fantastic, Borel says she's the greatest horse he's ever riden, and he rode street sense, love this filly!

it was AMAZING to see im soo happy for her

ZenyattaLuver 2 years ago
I know right?!?! I had my doubts about her against JustwhistleDixie. But then she demolished the field, I don't think JWD would have stood a chance, she proved the critics wrong with that performance. Of course did you see her this morning working out, she kept trying to bite her excersize rider because he was holding her back, she was ready to run, "A keg of dynamite!"
109367 2 years ago
i did hope dixie ran but i hope she gets better but
rachel is a machinee
ZenyattaLuver 2 years ago
I thought it would be a more fair race, but now I'm thinking not :) RA is a FREAK! Have you noticed she runs like Ruffian, wins by huge margins, but she doesn't always run on the lead like Ruffian.

BeasTxMode2000 2 years ago
Borel never even moved a muscle(except his neck miscles,LOL) on this filly. She just drew off on her own. This was a paid workout,no doubt. I'll bet on this girl anytime!
BE109 2 years ago 3
There are always cynics in every bunch. Just watch how easy she does this, and remember she does this routinely! This filly is a RACEHORSE,PERIOD!!! If one cannot see that, well its a crying shame for them!!
BE109 2 years ago 3
MCELROY, you goober, if all the rest of the field were merely SPRINTERS, why in the hell did they let her make an easy early lead ? Sprinters going long ALWAYS show speed, and not a single one of them dare go with her...you couldn't be more wrong in your assessment of the Fantasy
Iwastherein1969 2 years ago
I really hope they send her to the Triple Tiara since it looks like a Triple Crown try is out of the question (I seriously think she could possibly beat the boys in the Derby without too much of a problem if they sent her there but it looks like the Oaks for her so why not the next best thing? Why not the Triple Tiara?). She would have no problem sweeping the three legs.

I love Calvin, what a great few years it has been for him. I read in an article that he thought RA was a better racehorse than Street Sense. Or more talent or something....
Rock8mywork789 2 years ago
The horses she beat are sprinters. Wait till she runs against Justwhistledixie!!!!!
mrleroy1966 2 years ago
I love the fact that Calvin has the mount. He is a gutsy rider and it must be like Heaven riding a mare with this dominating ability. He didn't even need to ask her,she just went on with it,BEAUTIFUL!!!
BE109 2 years ago
The next super filly. She should go for the Travers.
Rock8mywork789 2 years ago
check that....Rags to Riches

Best 3YO Filly since Winning Colors.
stivo1975 2 years ago
what about Rags
ZenyattaLuver 2 years ago
I'd keep her right where she is. Let this good filly continue to dominate her peers, no reason to bring her up against the boys and invite the numerous risks that entails...
iveoverflowed 2 years ago
Man...this filly is serious stuff, i don't know if it isn't better to run her in the derby
lengua92 2 years ago
I agree. They could surprise everybody skipping the oaks to steal the derby.
luisbelusi 2 years ago
Thebiggest threat to this horse was the jock falling asleep in the saddle for lack of anything to do.
This could be the Travers winner, after Quality Road burns out in the Triple Crown.

Again, the best three year old in the country may very well be a filly! She should run in the Travers if her form holds up into the summer.....
Rock8mywork789 2 years ago
i was there and have since watched the video about 10 times. he never asked her to go...... in no way did he ever ask her to "go"
kingoftherapids 2 years ago
I saw this race and it was great, her ears were pricked foward and the jockey just asked her to go and she flew down the stretch with ease. I know she will win the Oaks!
ShannyPants2 2 years ago
She is better than stardom bound
stardom prefers the sythetics
rachel loves the dirt
but i think she will run the oaks
not the derby
Ravenspass4life 2 years ago
The race was even more amazing to watch in person. Calvin never moved his arms or gave her reins. She ran away from the field under a strong hold. Too bad we won't see her run against the colts. She's something special.
QuitFoolingAround 2 years ago
She's not only the best 3 yr old filly in training - she's the best 3 yr old!! What a great race!
wendyu1 2 years ago
WOW!! I can't get over her stetch run after being in the lead during the whole race!! She is an amazing filly!!!!!
Horselover3994 2 years ago
Boy she's awesome. I just hope I can get even money on her in the KY Oaks.
CardsFan50 2 years ago
Good luck with that after Stardom Bound's performance yesterday. I wish I would of taken her in the futures bet seeing as Justwhistlingdixie was the favorite.

Amazing. She'll win the Oaks or (if her connections are smart enough to enter her in the Kentucky Derby) the Derby. Whichever one they decide to enter her in, she'll win. She is just an amazing racehorse. She was just breezing the whole time. I wonder how fast she could go if pushed. Wow.
