this is how a live version of anything should be, interaction with the crowd, dedications, and an awesome performance! Also @Podok86 sweet sweet mary, Please please legalize.
A great song! For those of you who were born after Nixon resighned, the enemies list was a list of AMERICANS that he and his administration deemed to be against him. It was, and still is, a "badge of honor" to those who were one the list!!
The Nixon administration is the number one reason for the myths and propaganda about marijuana. This lying paranoid criminal associated its' use with the anti war movement and went against the advice of a panel of scientists that he appointed whos findings were that pot was less dangerous than booze. Why do we continue to adhere to the myths fabricated by Nixon the most paranoid president in history?
these guys are amazing!!!! they even wrote a song just as contriversial now as they were in the70's. i just love rebel bands who are not afraid to cover it up under the table!! brewer and shipley is that band!!!! they have writtena song about obama! if you haven't heard it , i'll play it for you just for grins.
Brewer and Shipley are from K.C, Missouri, I've met them and of course when my son was popped for possession, His Lawyer said," The drug laws in this country are F***ed and I agree!
It's okay if I get high, because I'd do what you're supposed to do--sit home and listen to records. But I don't trust others to get high, because they'll go drive somewhere while high and talking on their cell phone while my kid is on his bike in the bike lane.
As I recall it, the pot smokers got busted because they were driving 15 miles an hour, and would sit through a couple of green lights before deciding which way to go. If they had cell phones then it would take half an hour to figure out which button to push, probably parked at the end of a dead-end road somewhere.
@MrBigrobmjca3 part of being high feels like when you get a great idea. Part of it feels like when a TV show is funny, times ten. Part of it feels like being a little disoriented but not caring. Put them all together, amplify them, and then say goodbye to having a quick, accurate mind and a sharp memory.
"Waitin' for the train that goes home to sweet Mary & hopin' that the train is on time. Sittin' downtown in a railway station one toke over the line." HAPPY 4/20!!! Smoke up!!!
I love taking road trips & riding around in my friend's 1963 VW Beetle while listening to this song. It reminds me a lot of my Dad because his favorite car was the VW Beetle (he owned several of them during his lifetime), & he was usually "One Toke Over The Line". The apple sure as hell didn't fall far from the tree seeing as I'm going to bake in a little while.
I love waking up, making a nice fresh coffee, packing a bong and just sit and relax with this song while staring out into the sky. Such a great feeling. Feels like freedom.
xarukanox...I'd go to a different place, but I've got too much money invested in my house and (Don't laugh)....my grandchildren are nearby. I'm an aging hippie.
Just remember to be careful and don't get caught. Rock on.
Cute little song. Obviously it's led to a lifetime of success for these two, here playing a show in the Old Woman's Shoe straight of of Mother Goose's nursery rhymes.
Says a man with nothing better to do then comment about them on the internet. I'd explain the irony but it would probably make your tiny head explode.
The Grateful Dead did it 25 years later? This song came out in 1971, Jerry Garcia died in 1995 so they missed it by a year. Very interesting in any case!
I don't smoke pot but I do support its legalization. It's incredible that the medical authorities have found pot has some medical benefits for the seriously ill and the terminally ill, but the states and federal governments and law enforcement continue to oppose it being legal, even in those situations. It's time to end the hypocrisy and legalize pot in every state for home use and for medical use.
Love Lawrnce Welk & Jerry Garcia...Whoooooooo do you love...Hope it's me!! DEAD Forever!!!Wanna be one toke over the line when that FEMA Train comes rolling in....LOL!!!! Peace Out♥ Paula♥
seriously one of the more beautiful harmonies i've ever heard Not on this this video (though i 5'd it anyway) but on the actual recording of the song the end is beautiful. I know it don't seem like the right word but it's the only one i find fitting.
Funny. You can interpret it as a drug song, or as a religious song. But that was the beauty of music back then; it was what you wanted it to be. Lighten up Nixon, please!

You have to look at the history of medical marijuana. 5000 years we all pretty much agreed it was medicine. Then Anslinger went apeshit on narcotics and it was breifly outlawed in 1920 sumthing. Hemp for victory came about in ww2, and it was good medicine for a few years, until it became bad again in 1939, a move the American Medical Association fought against.
