i always believed he is saying:

if i do not see my beloved (piya) happy (sakhi) then how to pass these dark (tortorous) nights.

This is an innovation of Hazrat Ameer Khusro ..... this was called Rekhta at that time when one verse was from Persian and the other one from Hindi or Hindvi, what they called it at that time .....

Hazrat Khusro excelled insublime poetry. But he was not unique in that. There have been others. But who can excel in poetry in 2 languages - Farsi and Brajbhasha. This song has one line in Farsi and other is Brajbhasha. Amazing!
