a few years back i got to GO IN HER!!!! aww she is such a good (and HOT) train. yes it is good looking hot but its also freaking burning in there!!!!!!!!
How did you get 259,000 views? None of my videos have that many views. I must not be putting in the right tags! Nice video though. Looks like I'm going to have to plan a trip out west!
@dreambuilders48808 Strange how views work. i've done hundreds of online videos - most are lucky to get 100 views. My dreamlifter video is closely behind - at 215000 views.
Last Sunday night I heard the unmistakable whistle of Engine 700drifting on the wind - from miles away. Sure enough, the "Holiday Express" is running between OMSI and Oaks Park for two weekends. I'll try to get out this weekend to get some more fun footage!
What in the clear blue fuck? Half of the time they take 4449 out we don't get to see any daylight cars, and now they have them strapped to the 700? What up with that, Doyle?
Ive taken thermo and it can be extremely efficient but the reason why there are "obsolete" is because of the massive maintenance their required at the time. They constantly needed to be oiled/ greased/ ash pan cleaned/ flame tube cleaned and became extraordinarily huge in order to get out the same tractive effort from a comparibly small diesel, or lash up of them.
This is a little obscure, but the "mythical high efficiency engine" could only be a heat recapturing steam engine. If you do the thermodyamics, you can see it. Does anyone know why it is "obsolete"? i am pretty sure that if it were brought back most other engines would become obsolete.
@hypnofan35 Steam engines are obsolete but steam turbines are still the most economical way to capture heat energy, over 95% of all the electricity worldwide is made by steam turbines. So in a sense we wouldn't need to bring back the steam engine : )
I just randomly went to YouTube and put "Steam Engine" in the search bar. This video was the top result on the page. Now, what's interesting about that, is that I happen to know that this particular engine is parked 15 minutes away from where I am right now. Right next to the 4449.
One of these days I will get around to getting some great footage of the Colorado "Ski" train up here. Hope to catch Steam Engine 700 this summer again.
I wish to god I could wake up in the cab of one of those northerns and go highballing with a limited... better keep doin it with the Lionels and keep dreamin... what's a 13 year old to do?
Sure the cycling guys were almost faster, but I bet they were not pulling major tonnage.
Multiply all that dead weight of the steam engine by its speed, and you get a bloody huge energy output, compared to the meagre pedal power output of those cyclists.
You can't on that stretch of rail. Its just puttering up a slight grade. The once double headed that stretch of track with the 4449 which resulted in both locos on the dirt and split rails.
Oh, it has so beautiful voice. <3 :D

How deeply I mourn the passing of the steam era.

Sounds fantastic!

It didn't look like it was producing much smoke an' ash, and I thought that was the main reason why they switched to hybird Diesel-electric setup.
I sure do love the sound those steam locomotives make!

Nice POV. The video is a great depiction of the elegance and raw power of American steam locomotives.

Should have turned the camera and shown the engine going away.
17 seconds wasted on title which could have been shown as car passed.
Go to a grade crossing and capture the whistle.
Fun perspective but grade C-.

It's too bad these things are not practical anymore.
They look like works of art on wheels!

Very good work. Seeing the 700 in such fine form as this calls for a celebration.
Thanks for posting, friend.

But, yeah, they do go quite slow, don't they?
We always expect them to be hooning past.

Plus, it isn't really trying to build up speed...

The branch line as a 10mph speed limit. I paced this locomotive at 50+ during her tijme in MT

How realistic is that game, as in controls, physics, and sound?
RattlingMurdock 3 years ago
Even though it's one of the older sims, MSTS is still the most realistic (especially for controls), and the physics are generally accurate.
