  • Thumbs Up if this car looks just a little bit like the Cruze. At least from the front that is.

  • Go with a Ford Fiesta next time!

  • i talked with a cop in Red Wing, MN(were i live) after my car was vandalized, he told me the Red Wing PD is thinking of getting a bunch of Caprices, they have all ready got 2 of the last Crown Vics(thats all Red Wing has at this time)

  • I doubt its AWD, aka helpless police when it snows, when will they brighten up and use subarus?

  • The holdens (chevy) are good police vehicles in Australia, but I know it to be fact that the police have preference with the ford XR6 Turbo, being a straight six with a turbo. Its funny how people say the caprice can't catch a supercar, true, but who in their right mind would allow a pursuit over 250km/hr. Its to dangerous for everyone!!

  • @houseoflilly yeah that's what helicopters are for.

  • Wow ... Epicas?? Astras??? Really?? I hope QLDs force doesn't get that lame lol ... Diesel usually isn't so bad I've seen some really powerful Diesels. The lamest cop cars I've seen round here are Paddy Wagons :P

  • i hope the States will see a civilian version of this car. :D

  • @Artyfil pontiac g8 matey hahah :)

  • @2004PontiacGTO

    which they don't make anymore.

  • @Artyfil they should we sell civilian version here aus and the civilian here look wat better

  • pos

  • @Drizzzlez - Highway Patrol and State Police agencies have specialty cars designed for high speed pursuit, 'cruisers' aren't meant to run down supercars.

Camaro, Mustang, etc...these are true 'Interceptors', despite what stupid logo their police department puts on the typical cruiser.

  • This Mechknight fella knows exactly what hes talking about xD

Allthough the Chevy Caprice (Holden Caprice) is a very reliable car, I think it will perform ok in America, but I hope they've got something else planned as Highway Patrol vehicles .. Toyota Aurions are actually the more commonly used Police Vehicles in Australia now. But we use Ford Typhoons with the occasional Holden Monaro as Highway Patrol Vehicles .. the Commodore isn't gonna cut it for real High Speed pursuits ...

  • @Drizzzlez don't know what part ur from but the Aurion is rarely used and only one monaro was ever trialed

  • @SonofthePhantom At one stage all we had was Aurions running around ... now we've got about 3 unmarked cars a few aurions and a few lancers as well as a commodore ... plus a paddy wagon i think ...

And we had the Monaro Highway Pursuit Vehicle up here a few years back, now we've got another that I was driving behind just yesterday ...

  • @Drizzzlez Lucky u, In WA it gets as excitng as XR6 Turbos :(

  • @SonofthePhantom Lol nah we get some more interesting stuff over here in QLD ... No joke, I went past a 1985 Toyota Hilux the other day lit up like a christmas tree (unmarked). That's probably the most obscure unmarked I've seen but ...

  • @Drizzzlez How about Epica Diesels (being used by our detectives) and WA's about the only place that has Astra Diesels, then again most of the fleet is now diesel except the Falcodores, the odd Rex and the TRG Territory's, all in the name of cost cutting

  • @Drizzzlez there's evo X's in central QLD running round

  • @YouNext5757 The Crown Vic's day as the premier police car is over. This is not a Chevy Caprice designed and built in America. It's a rebadged Haolden Caprice, and as such, behaves nothing like its American predecessors. Fast, razor sharp suspension and steering, this will become the weapon of choice for most police forces once they get to drive them

  • this car actually came from australia but it was called holden not chevrolet

  • The old American Caprices were probably the best police cars ever made in the US and these new Holdens look great. Holden has a great rep with the Commodore police car and this looks promising.

  • ford has to do some serious catch up now against thise.

  • These cars have been around for years in Australia and New Zealand as the Holden Statesman & Caprice. The short wheelbase version known here as the VE Commodore (Pontiac G8) has been running Police duty for many years and has turned out to be very robust and reliable...I have no doubt this new Caprice will perform well as a PPV in America

  • thank you at least some one who recognizes what the car really is!!!!!

    cheers mate!

  • It looks too much like the current wImpalas...question is: Is it RWD? If not then it wont hold up even with a V8. The86-96 Caprices were unmatched and ruled the PD car market for good reason, I'm not sure if this will.

  • Yes, it is RWD, and the engine is supposed to make 355BHP, and like 380 ft/lb. Kills the Crown Vic's.

  • @rik747 They are RWD, and will ultimately outclass the Caprice they replace. I know the police spec Caprices had stiffer suspension, but an Australian Holden Caprice will outrun, outcorner and outbrake the Crown Vic or the last US built Caprice without even trying. If you don't believe me, test drive a Pontiac G8, which is a short wheelbase version of these. Australia hates floaty suspension

  • @Mechknight73 Yes, I have since found out that they will be RWD. I am glad and eagerly await their arrival. I am trying to get my agency to get a bid in to buy them. I know they will out perform the Clown Vics, especially since they are now going to a Taurus platform, but will they outlast an older Caprice? Only 200-300K will tell as I have several box Caprices with over that many miles on them!

  • @rik747 As you're American, I can understand that you may not know about Holdens. I have seen this model under extreme abuse conditions, and it's almost as if they see it as a challenge. They are capable of surviving things that would slaughter any Japanese car, and more. Twist their arm as much as possible, and everybody will thank you for it

  • get rid of the grill. it just makes the car nastyyyy

  • well back in the days the caprices had the chrome grills so i guess they brought it back with the new caprice

  • looks ok, but definitely not even close to a competitor to the e7. i mean, they supposedly designed it strictly for police, but yet they still threw a light bar on it instead of building lights into roof like e7? and also, why can't the rear get side-impact airbags again? those are coming standard now on even the smallest econoboxes.

  • they probably haven't thought of that yet.......maybe on future designs they will.....

  • this car is just a re marketed VE commodore which is a Australian designed family sedan, its been out for 2 years in Australia, nothing new, just a new name and a slightly diffrent grill.

  • Well to be exact it's actually based on the long wheelbase Holden WM Statesman platform not the VE Commodore...it is a great Aussie car though

  • @snoopyloopy They will still have to make them marketable once these cruisers retire from police service. Besides, it also allows potentially for the other uses Crown Vics have, such as the fire chief's car. The Holden Caprice on which this car is based has more airbags than a bouncy castle all round. That includes the rear.

  • the front looks like a chevy aveo

  • The entire platform is based on the Pontiac G8.

  • @carmgn56 No, based on the WM Holden Caprice, the long wheelbase version of the Holden Commodore, the G8's base

  • @carmgn56 Not entirely true. The G8 and the Caprice are different bodies, even if they do run the same suspensions and driveline

  • they didnt think of every thing its got a center shifter console must be first 4 door police car with that option
