Arma is an interesting game to me, it's not as well known, its PC exclusive so you need a computer I don't have. It's extremely utilitarian at some parts: it doesn't have very detailed texture and overall crude and ugly graphics. But it allows greater expanse than other co-operative strategic shooters, and it has a sense of formality to it, the vehicles are all near mil-spec simulation, the missions aren't abstract area control or involve blowing up alarm boxes. It's war without motive or blood.
this game can run smoothly on windows xp unless you have a good rig on win7 or vista.. if your on core series better use windows xp especially if you have 4 gb mem.. with a gtx 260 or 4870 video card..
@EllisDeeRules Dude that was a year ago now I run an Overclocking computer at 4GB of RAM, Intel Core i7 2600k @ 5.2GHz (Overcharge on air!) and 2 AMD Radeon HD5970's It cost a lot but it was worth the money. Now I can't lag!!!! :D
ArmA II hands down. ArmA is a realism military simulation, but if you're too mind-fucked by games like Call of Duty, you might not like it. Operation Flashpoint on the other hand is an attempt to combine ArmA's glory with Call of Duty's gameplay. If you're really into the idea of military realism and use of tactics, get ArmA. Pluss, about the "quirks", ArmA has very large scaled maps, and it is rather difficult for the creators to fix every bug that might show itself.
Thanks for the response. Original Operation Flashpoint also had bugs that I didn't notice too much. Although Call of Duty was "fun" it wasn't as intense as th ehours I sat waiting for the sun to set in Original OP Flash just so I could complete the missions. To this day, I still have not completed the entire game of original Op Flashpoint. I hear the new game is quirky and got a lower rating than ArmaA II. I lik ethe realism, not this run and gun stuff. I like taking my time planning.
And to just get a taste of how large the maps are: If you were to try and just run across the map, it would take about 8 hours to complete. =/ Like I said, realism is the key factor in this game. But by my personal thought, you should go ahead and buy it, or at least test it.
That was like th eoriginal Operations Flashpoint. Sometimes, I was wounded and had to crawl for hours to find a emergency tent to get healed. Once I crawled for about 2 hours or so and just died in the middle of nowhere. Obviously of inflicted wounds and blood loss. That was impressive, but disappointing I spent 2 hours crawling. Hahahahaha..... It sounds like a great game, and when I have time, I will most likely do the purchase.
Hughes, do you think ARMA will come out with a 3? I am very intereste din this game, but I am always a step behind, waiting for "the perfect game" I am almost tempted to reload Op Flashpoint Cold War Crisis and go to town!!! I still never finished that game and played for months!!! One scenario (in the woods, surrounded by enemy) took me almost 5 months to finish, being very tactical. Any new videos???
@GR8WHITEC5=I personally have no idea if they will be coming out with a ArmA 3. Certainly, Bohemia Interactive will come out with a game post-ArmA. And I'm the same with you about finding the "perfect game". But out of all my research and testing, I have found ArmA to be the most realistically correct. Plus, I think summer of 10 they got the expansion coming for ArmA 2, Operation Arrowhead. Should bring us more. And for OP: DR, I advise you to stay away from that game. Its a mix of COD and ArmA.
Well, I see I'm too late for this discussion too. ;o)
Don't worry, ArmA 2 isn't going away when you wait, to the contrary it's getting better thanks to patches and mods that get developed in the meantime.
Dragon Rising was not made by the guys who made OFP: CWC (and ArmA 1+2), they merely have the rights to the name and nothing more than that. Plus because they have mistreat their community in various ways, it's mostly dead a mere two months after release. Wasn't nice to watch...
You're probably listening to the wrong explosion. The one from the A-10 isn't loud, it's straight ahead and sounds very distant. The one from the rocket, a couple seconds later, sounds like it's close and to the right...because it is. ;)
Just use headphones if your listening with cheap speakers.
Arma 2 has a lot of war moments that can be project it as a real war moments... im glad that this game is exist... unlike other games like COD4 you didnt feel the real war but instead you feel an action war movie...
Love the randomness of Operation Flashpoint and ARMA games... Best thing Ive seen on OFP was two apache helicopters colliding in mid air and falling onto my squad.
note the sound delay used as well....due to the explosion being about 200-300m away (and sound travelling at 600mph).
Is halt alles etwas komplizierter in ArmA. ;o)
Actually if you see A10s in real life, until they fly away from you they are suprisingly quiet. Try to youtube some footage of them at an air show or something its pretty amazing. Assists in theyre ambushing role. :D
He's right. The from of the engines dont make alot of sound since they are just sucking in air. In the back on the other hand. Thats where the combustion of the fuel happens and it basicly explodes out and thats why you hear it from the back alot more than the front.
A10s are actually really quiet, you cant hear them from more then about a mile away if its at full throttle going away, even then, its not a typical jet sound, more a high pitched whining
no lol. For a start it wasn't going faster than the speed of sound, and secondly its a know part of the game that the sound draw distance of aircrafts is too close :)

Yeah. OFP: DR was a flop. no one left online and was abandoned by the creators. It was sad to watch.

You should be able to hear it from miles away!

Oh right lol, didn't know that! Even so, it might be quiet to aircraft standards, but you can only make 2 screaming jet engines so quiet :P

That's why they can't fly supersonic as well. They have much less power, but they are very manouverabel at low speeds...
Looks great how the maverick impacts on the tank!!

hmm...when something flies faster than the speed of sound, it makes sense that you wouldn't hear it too much coming toward you, doesn't it.

no lol. For a start it wasn't going faster than the speed of sound, and secondly its a know part of the game that the sound draw distance of aircrafts is too close :)
Vopsound mod fixes the issue quite well.

a10 mostly doesnt fly at the speed of sound, infact i will check if it can... its wing shape is wrong for it anyway so it wouldnt be recommended.
