In Texas the pest control lobbyists have made it illegal for beekeepers to remove hives from structures. That's immoral to put money before trying to give the honey bees a home. Your profession tends to attract ex-cons and uneducated people. Try holding yourself to higher standards.
we are the only country that freaks out over Africanized honey bees. Africa has AFRICAN honey bees and they do just fine. South Americans have embraced the Africanized bees and are keeping them in hives in similar ways to Italian/European bees. They are more aggressive and have done some damage, I do recognize that, but other countries seem to be making it along just fine. Of course they dont have CNN/MSNBC/and Dateline running scarey articles about them either.
You are all idiots. What is it about bees you hate? The fact that they give you honey, fruit, vegetables, and flowers? Or, maybe it's because we'd all be dead without them in about 4 years after they vanish? Have some respect.

Wow. I've always heard stories about "killer bees" but have never actually encountered them before, thank God. I'm terrified of any stinging insect, though, so I avoid them as much as possible.
definitely bring sell them to a bee keeper... that way, both the bees and the humans would be happy (you do not have to kill the bees, the owners get money and the beekeepers get bees). if you're not a professional, don't do anything to them. otherwise, if they are provoked, they would attack.
The Africanized bees must be destroyed they are harmful to the domestic bees, we need bees to do their jobs which include carrying pollen the Africanized bees are a threat.
I don't think that destroying them all is an option (sort of like saying destroy all the cockroaches). As of now the best practice is to try and understand their behavior and nature so as to co-exist with them. As I've mentioned before, if you take away the possible spaces they may colonize on your property, you minimize the risk near your home. This doesn't mean they won't colonize somewhere else near by.
I agree we should not destroy them. They carry pollen and as the honey bees are dieing out every little helps. We live in a cycle, if they all die it will effect the cycle.
yeah but there are different types of bees and africtanized beez/killer beez are the most dangerous i've seen so far x_X attacking people just cause of sound (or something else) and possibly kill people is unforgiveable (sp)
last thing you want to do is run out in the open as instinct will tell you. They have bad sight so running into the bush or under or next to something camoflashes you. It would seem alot better to sell the hive to a bee farmer wouldn't you think?.. A strong hive can be worth a great deal to someone who harvists the honey. Bees are really fasanating. sweet video.
Thanks for your comments. They use chemical targeting like a laser. Once they paint the target via a sting it tells the rest where to aim (they don't need to see anything). Selling the hive would be great but unfortunately, they colonized a water control valve box the 1st time and started colonizing my attic space the 2nd time. They can easily put up to 5,000 bees inside a family size soup can.
Honestly, I don't get this hype. They produce more honey and are not as dangerous as people try to picture. I used to help a friend who breeds African bees for honey down in Brazil and was attacked a couple of times. They are indeed aggressive and can kill, but if you run, they will go away as soon as you are far from the hive (as they are just trying to protect their queen). If you panic and stay on your lawnmower waving your hands trying to scare them away you really DESERVE to die.
Thanks for your input. A man who was killed near here last summer was working on his roof and couldn't get down due to the mass of the attack (over 300 facial stings). These bees will defend up to 1/2 mile away. One sting per lb of body weight can kill a healthy adult human and they can and do attack anything within 1/4 mile of the hive when defending. And I;m sorry but NO ONE DESERVES TO DIE trying to fend off an attack.
My comment was insensitive and I apologize, but the likelihood of such massive attack is ridiculously small. He was really unluck! I would be more worried about walking outside during a storm. As far as the ½ mile radius, I can tell you by experience (they exist in Brazil for over 2 decades and I used to deal with them), they will not run after you much farther than 20 yards... They actually die when they sting someone, so they only do that when they feel that you are threatening their queen.
The first time I was attacked, some stupid kids threw rocks at the hive while I was passing on a tractor. They came after me like crazy... hundreds of them! But I only got about 5 stings. If you are on a roof and can't really run, the best thing to do is to stay calm and play dead. They will feel threatened if you try to put them away and the attack will be much worse. That's all I was trying to say. Good luck with your business!
You're absolutely correct about people doing stupid things around the bees and I totally appreciate your insights and experience. Consider yourself lucky with only a few hundred of them. Most attacks here come from thousands at a time. you should also cover your face and head since there's less fat to absorb any venom. They also attack darker colors more ofetn because it's predatory (like bears). The guy on his roof was well over 20 yds away and the hammering sound is what set them off.
The best prevention is to not give them room for their new home. Cover up open vents. Fill water meter and valve boxes with plastic bags or insulation. If you take away the space, they won't move in. Bees in a big clump (like in the video) are only waiting to occupy a new space and are very docile unless provoked (hosing down, etc.). Nectar & water foragers are the same way (just doing their jobs). It's like I tell people, awareness about their nature is the best defense to practice.
I had no idea the problem was that serious! I live in upstate NY, and we get wasps from time to time, but I just spray the hive with wasp spray and roast the nest--very interesting video!
This was never intended as an advertisement for the company's service. I've spent over $1500 on bee removal at my house. Most attacks happen when people try to fix the problem themselves.
